PD. Posted June 1, 2006 That looks like a Cereus. As for the second part of the question, i too would like some input into that.
Dodie Posted June 1, 2006 How long ago had it been cut? If its been a week or more i would put it in a pot and give a little water in the morning of a hot day so it wont be sitting in water at night. Cacti grow very slowly during winter but it would be good to get it to start rooting so it can just power along when it hits spring.
Evil Genius Posted June 1, 2006 Hi anachronism, nice plant! I´d give it some water now. Looking at the shape of the ribs i´d spontaneously say it´s a cereus but it could also be a dehydrated trich. Is that wool at the areoles? please make another closeup of the areoles and the spines. I´ve seen some peruvianoids that looked similar but The Spines look like cereus, though they are very big. I think phleb´s ID is correct. Bye EG
Prophet Posted June 1, 2006 It is a Cereus, i have what looks like the same plant. NOt sure what species it is though, hopefully one of those that produce an edible fruit

Micromegas Posted June 4, 2006 Hey, I have a small cutting that looks similiar too. Cereus of some sort. It came of a cactus that must have been five metres high with a ramified trunk and at least twenty arms, so give it some space!
