Rev Posted April 16, 2006 long spine top short spine top it will be interesting to see the diverisity as the others get bigger
Pisgah Posted April 16, 2006 That is sweet rev. I love this species. I love the physical diversity of bridgesii. TBM, multiple monstrose and cristate forms, yet relative consistency of bitterness. Even with non-cristate or monstrose forms, such distinction among spination color and length. Is this a species we should dredge for clones? I think so. I just planted 100,000 bridgesii seeds!!! Rev Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) wow i considered that once but after potting up 2 to 300 mixed seedlings i rethought what 100k means ill be sticking to batches of 1000 maximum of any type and even to manage that ill need acreage so i can make fences to use all the material! its true though now is possibly the best time in human history to go trawling - for any plant access is the best its ever been and wild diversity will only decrease from here the clones we make today mat still be sustaining our descendants in 10 000 years time. thats the power of the plant human relationship Edited April 16, 2006 by Rev

AndyAmine. Posted April 16, 2006 JeezLouise!, that will take up a massive ammount of space when they get bigger, how much space have you set out for them Pisgah? Can you grace us with some photos of your project? I think I can speak for us all when I say regular updates are essential! LOL
spunwhirllin Posted April 16, 2006 I felt a little nutty when I sowed 500 bridgesii, knowing that the gh was already bulging at the seems. If you have the space, time, and stock in band-aids,more power to ya.
Pisgah Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) LOL. Yeah, bandaids will be essential. My father-in-law just bought a horse ranch, and I'm going to line the fences with them. I have every january off from work, and my girls want to ride horses for a month down on the ranch. I'm not into riding, so I'll be digging and planting. Heaven!!! And yeah, one of these days I'll have to get a freakin' camera. Edited April 16, 2006 by Pisgah
strangebrew Posted April 16, 2006 Just make sure those horses are well fed! :D I've seen sheep do some damage.
Rev Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) yeah but ground lice will eat anything itd be goo dto measure out the internal and external fence length if you had 5000 cacti youd cover 2500 to 1600 linear metres with ease potting on will be a bitch! if you 100+/- a day itll still take 3 months to get through a 10% survival rate Edited April 17, 2006 by Rev
Gunter Posted April 16, 2006 If 10% make it... damn Pisgah... damn
Pisgah Posted April 18, 2006 1000 a day is what I'm going for. I'm expecting a low germ rate. Kind of old seed. Oh, and not this january for field planting, but the next... This is a rather large ranch, with many pens of a large size. Endurance racing horses. I'll plant on the outside of the corrals, no munchie-munchie that way. But I doubt these horses will give a shit about cacti, since they are on a hyper-nutritious diet. Now, all I need is a supply of stimulant plant material for my cheek as I labor through 1000+ plantings a day for a month. Damn, I wish I had more qat bushes!!!
