  1. P1000035.jpg

I have an astrophytum asterias sand dollar that is just starting to shoot out what looks like will be a flower.

I have no idea how long it takes until the flower is mature, but when it is ill happily send you some pollen.

Ill keep you posted and maybe get a photo. When its ready you can fill me in on the best method for collecting storing and sending the pollen.

EDIT: here is a photo of the astro i was talking about... it seems to be a flower forming.

  2. sorry about the conflicting results on those scientific papers torsten.

My understanding is that each strain would behave differently( i.e a hash plant would have much 'stickier smoke than one with less trichomes ) but thats just an opinion.

I just googled what you were looking for and placed them here for you to read as you said you did not have the time to do so. I thought a bit of confliction in results may help, allowing you to pick and choose which studies to use as ammunition. Even though the laws in SA have allready been bought in its still possible to go buy a 'water pourer' from local shops.

Anyways, best of luck in the battle !

  3. I have a large advanced crest ( what appears to be a multiplex echinopsis ) that after putting under a 18/6 light cycle and fed some quality nutes has gone ballistic.

Currently it is has twenty juvenile flowers with more still forming.

I was after as many different types of trichocereus or echinopsis pollen i can get a hold of and will try pollenating each different flower with a different pollen. ( tagging and recording each possible hybridisation )

I have no idea of the cost of pollen, but am willing to negotiate. Either a share of the seeds/seedlings, cash, or any trades i may have.

  4. nothing in my purchse history that even closely resembles this. ( p.viridis, b.caapi, mim.hostilis, various acacias and a few others)

But none would come near resembling this plant !

must be some randoms from a trade ? either way ill put it in the ground outside and keep an eye on it as it matures. Thanks for the help anyway guys.

  5. Apologies if I came across as insulting and maybe a welcome to the forums should have been in order.

I was being a 'little' wary, and I was genuinely interested in what you had for trade hybridized.

But your right Baz. All trades here are above board so no issue really.

So a belated welcome to you hybridized. Id love to see some photos of the loph collection too ( are they caespitosa ? )

    cheers - tipz

  6. Quite some time ago I had thrown some seeds bought from SAB in a small pot ( I thought maybe MH but could have been one of a number of seeds purchased ). After no luck i planted some of the syrian rue in the same pot( also from SAB ).

Just as the rue took off some other seeds germinated and the problem is i cannot remember what i planted in there previously :BANGHEAD2:

Anyone recognise it from the shitty lighting and poor photo ?

  7. A good loam not too finely broken up and a fourth of leaf-mold and a smallamount of horticultural charcoal mixed with the soil will greatly help to keep it in good condition and will suit the acacias in pots, if any fertiliser i would only recommend a very small amount of slow-release osmocote, speak to your local garden centre about compatibility of different ferts with acc.spp, but i really think its unnecessary.

It must be well drained, If the pots are not porous and self draining then you will need to introduce some drainage without jeopardizing the structural integrity of the grow bags ! They will also be very hard to transport weighing a couple of hundred kilos in whats not much more than a hessian sack.

So think ahead. I also noticed the bags are dark black in colour and in direct sun will absorb a lot of heat. Im not sure how much of a problem this could be but its something worth considering.

They really are better off in the ground.. I am lucky enough to have a friends farm where i can plant copious amounts of plants, but if i didn't i would actually consider finding an outdoor plot in a nearby reserve or conservation park and plant it there instead for future use ( as long as the plant is endemic to the area and wont upset any ecological balances).

Im by no means an expert, but seems though you weren't getting much response i thought my opinion 'might' help

(edit) Seasol is not by definition a fertiliser it is more so a soil conditioner.

Its use is more of a means of promoting healthy vigorous growth in plants, improving resistance to insect and fungal attack, and reducing the symptoms of stress from excessive heat, frost damage and transplanting.
