    isopropyl alcohol

Dirty old man has it right, its to do with higher % alcohol not penetrating cell walls as effectively. As a Note Isopropyl alcohol is more effective than Ethanol (metho) as a sterilizer but I don't think we would see much difference in our 'bucket' home chem labs.

    Two questions

I think (memory is hazy on this) that boiling will remove the chlorine but the flouride will remain. you would need to distill or use an ion exchange wattsy for that.

    Two questions

I should know the answer to this... ((thinking back to chemistry study.. )) but I thought that boiling the water would drive off the chlorine.. ?

    Two questions

I wouldn't have thought organic would matter, just use normal tap water too. some would argue that the chlorine in the water would slow the mycelium, once its sterilised there won't be any chlorine in there. good luck

    mycorhizzae cultures

I think it could be done. I'm not sure how easy it would be. I thought the mycelium would grow on just normal agar but the fruiting would require the pine tree.? Maybe you could grow the mycelium on the same agar as plant culture agar? does anyone know the mix? A combo agar could probably be made that suits both the plant and mycelium. interesting idea.

    Rev... What the ...!

In the last month have you emailed REV? its the same old story... Don't post negative things about someone until you have resolved it with them. Rev offers a pretty unique service providing mushroom supplies. I once ordered some things that took longer than I would have expected. I emailed him and he fixed it up. no problems.

    Homemade agar.

A little bit of salt will be ok and will actually inhibit bacterial growth. Saying that it would be easy to add too much. I have never used vegemite but want to give it a try. Milo too.

    Walking and blisters

make sure your shoes/boots are tight. I used to blister every bushwalk until I got some new boots which are nice and tight. if it still happens in the same place you can place sports strapping over the area before walking. good luck

    Agrocybe

I was a bit worried about the heat but I put them under my house where the temperature pretty good. When it’s in the high 30s outside, under the house is probably in the mid 20s. I can grow colder weather species this way. I'm hoping to get some pink and yellow oysters growing to take advantage of this warm weather

    Agrocybe

I'm not sure what will happen next but I'm hoping to get some decent fruits out of it. I've had the culture for ages but this is the first time I've actually grown it. Jim Bigger pics--> http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/inde...m&album=104

    Agrocybe

the 2nd pic a few posts up is H. ulmarius, the pics just above is 2 days later (H. ulmarius) The Agrocybe haven’t really worked out very well. The terrarium has let fungus gnat in - I think I'm going to toss it on the compost. I'm still pretty happy with the grow as I now know I can grow Agrocybe on paper.

Any Ideas for a nice Valentines Day Pressie?

My right my idea will take a bit of sneaking around but could work ok. A long long time ago when I was romantic and full of energy I used to live at uni with my girlfriend. She used to work interstate a lot and I would tend to only see her every 4 weeks for about 4 weeks. . Anyway one time on her return I had inflated a few hundred balloons and filled her room up to about waist height. It was pretty cool and not too expensive. An alternative to this would be to fill her car with balloons while she is at work. This of course would take a bit of organizing and having a few mates help out would probably be a help too. I had help with my balloon filling exercise. The great thing about it is that not only does your girlfriend think your some kind romantic legend but her friends think you are pretty good too. It makes their boyfriend look pretty lousy. ;) But a word of caution... Once you do this its hard to top it. We have a joke that I peaked at this point have done nothing else since. ;) good luck.!
