Thanks for the post olive. I do like the idea of getting a more advanced system. It would probably suit my anal personality. The first thing that comes to mind though is the work required to keep them healthy. I don't min the work. But time is an issue.

Thanks for sharing Olive, I know lots of people on here and we al have our own stories and histories. opening up like this I think is good. it brings us all a bit closer towards understanding each other. I don't know about the blood drinking bit though... wierdo ;)

I have had astrophytum grafted onto pereskiopsis but i find they take at a much lower rate than lophs. The scion needs to be a bit bigger than your standard loph seedl8ng too. And a bit of downward pressure can help. My pick for astros would be hylocereus or harrisia.

I think if my kid was asking questions like that I would talk about the drugs but also talk about hallucinations separate from drugs. Pick up a basic psychology textbook and look at vision and perception. There are heaps of eye/brain tricks like the impossible triangle, The spinning ballerina (two that come to mind) hallucinations can happen when your tired, with poor vision, injury and illness. There is heaps of material out there that would further nourish this curiosity. Ever wonder why clouds look like things? Is that a hallucination? Is a dream a hallucination? What about blind people? I think its good to have an open mind but don’t leave the door blowing off the hinges! We all need a solid foundation of reality, especially when young – it provides a sense of security and stability. I personally would be very careful about not providing your own explanation of hallucinations and reality. -
I was just thinking that could be an option.

I hate weeds around my cacti and I really don't have the energy to pull them all out. my new approach is succulent ground covers. it works well and the bees love it when they flower. the two big ones here are sceletium emarcidum and a delosperma species. if anyone wants to trade for some more varieties let me know. somewhere under the sceletium are several TBM.

I am a little worried that the succulents around teh base will encourage rot. I guess I will find out -
once you put cacti in the ground you wonder how you ever got by without... the ground.

Haha . I joke about the happy ending! I insist on one. They have a picture of me up at the counter of most places. 'Don't serve this man' -

I had some 'needling' done in my lower back a few times by an osteopath. She explained it was 'medical acupuncture' and not like TCM Traditional Chinese medicine. She thought it was a good idea and it did help in the short term. It kind of freaked me out that the needles were going in all the way and sitting between the wingy bits of my vertebrae. I had the spasms and electric shock feelings too. You probably have a very complex problem after car accidents but i find nothing gives me relief like a hand full of benzos, a chaser of pain meds,a massage ( happy ending optional) a cup of tea and a early night in bed. -
good on you waterboy - we are lucky people. I wish you strength to strength and a healthier and happier future
