reason behind alkaloid content of plants

no strychnine in shrooms .. got it .. my mistake. then whats the muscle cramping, blood vessels collapsing feeling, tight, nasty uncomforatbale feeling overall? it seemed to have a strong reaction with muscles too, not atrophy like, more spasmic.. i get this concurrent with the psychedelic effect.. ?? (p.sub, pine needle medium, >200 wet grams, boiled.) I understand strychnine poisoning becomes lethal near the 15mg/kg dose . . which is tiny in comparison to overall dose used here .. I had likened it only to HBW poisoning, smililar uncomfortable blood/pressure related feelings. (A.nervosa, 10-15 seeds, pre-flamed) *twitch increases* [ 28. reason behind alkaloid content of plants

agreed that evolution is brought about through mutation , however disagree at it being 'random'. obviously there are physical phenomena which drive evolution, which is why our eye sockets are depressed, protected, so as the eye is not damaged out on the end of some probuscus (a la snail) modern science has its money on solar radiation as the great mutator. well founded too, nothing seems as potent a reactor than sunlight, inclusive of UVA and UVB emission and heat. however it seems implausible that these alone can be the only mutanagenic forces. plants and animals dont go about the place, randomly producing chemicals in desparate hope that they might force some evolutary change. The first mutanagenic force is the physical environ, including the sun. the resultant change internally might lead to the production of chemicals necessary for survival, but it is not a random event. Adrenalin comes to mind, as environmental change is measured by the animal, and awareness to danger increases, the onset of the fight or flight scenario builds, and adrenalin is released in large doses as an aid. The events leading up to an environmental setting that calls for an evolutary change might be random.. but the resulatant chemistry is not random. McKenna puts forth an argument for dietary influence as being the next greatest mutator in both plant and animal kingdom. (which is why some species of fungi produces differring levels of (unwanted) strychnine and cyanide, dependant on the media in which it propagates. and why some animals, with an expanded food source, have greater ability for adaption and hardier constitution.) ..back to THC and the like being used as a retardant to attack. Unlikely, most of the time these compounds have a primary function, like being sticky to catch pollen or sweet smelling to attract pollenating bees, and that subsequently makes it pleasant/unleasant. Eucalyptus, mescaline, psilocybin, rubber, lavendar etc etc all have a primary function for metabolism, secondary to trying to ward off predators. personally i believe psilcybin as the perfect metaboloid for the mushroom, what else would you choose to pump through that vast, intricate, delicate mycelial network, and wet-fleshed wooden trunk ? :D 2 cents

reason behind alkaloid content of plants

..I seem to recall on the tail end of a documentary on Wild Cats, some discussion about 'cleansing' The question was : why do domesticated cats and dogs eat grass .. then vomit. Some examples were given. Firstly, a variety of volcanic mud conting certain compounds was found to be 'used' by a large congregation of both pigs and small finch. At first glance it appeared the usual scene, pigs rolling in the mud, having way too much fun, with the birds frantically playing alongside them. Upon closer examination it seemed the pigs were 'eating' the mud, as were the finches. (the mud was quite light in colour, similar to clay) Now the reason given by the film-maker, was the calming, "antacid" effect of the mud, due to certain compunds (not mentioned). And both the finch and pig were 'using' the mud as a calmative to adjust their internal chemistry after a few weeks of feeding. The second example moved swiftly to the large female cats .. lioness, leopard etc. Where the discussion regarding grass eating and purging came into focus. It appears that domestic cats and dogs do this as a body cleansing function. By eating the grass and adjusting stomach pH way out of normal levels, the animal can incite vomitting, which it does so casually. The documentary then followed the path of a large cat into the jungle, where it was spied munching down on some of our old friend B.Caapi. It then lay there, on its back, the way so many domesticated cats do in front of a fire. The camera-man zoomed up on its eyes .. glassy .. biiiiig eyes .. with that all too familiar look to them. This was the first time I became aware that it is not only humans who know the secrets of plants. It was a David Attenborough presentation .. I still recall his closing words : "What else about these hallucinatory realms does the Large Cat know.."

    let's talk firefox

.. i use Opera v7 .. very nifty software indeed .. includes : pop up blocker java blocker cookie blocker page loading with/without images chat room facitlities password wand a 'delete private data' button for flushing cache etc. and groovy mouse gestures which make browsing so quick. ..and yes the very first thing I noticed is how much quicker it is. in general Opera blocks all advertising, except its own, which it limits to one permannent banner top right of screen. (crack found at www.cracks.am - beware this site, spyware/adware central) havent used IE since, and I havent made Opera the default browser. In other threads I have noticed that most spyware/malware/adware is written to breach IE and Netscape protocols, so I guess its just a case of staying a step ahead of the crosshairs. (kinda like KDX) werd

    US foreign policy sticker

hmmm .. lets not get dressed up in hot pants just yet. although the interpretation is open, the intention is reasonably clear enough. im sure we can all at least agree the any imagry containing bombs and the american flag is one of familiarity to us. and the fact that the image is being presented to us thru a _less_ propagada-ridden media, means its a pisstake, and enables most to throw a smirk or sly smile. I doubt any interpretation here is the fully explained, only reflections of it. since the word "art" is open to interpretation, i wont disagree that it has been labelled as such .. i prefer pisstake

  11. not eager to jump in with death as such .. elsewhere in my mental studio, I have toyed that death is the great attractor. this is fuel for another thread, and certainly not as bad as it sounds.. change IS a certainty, that much I will agree furiously with you. orignal condition? ..well its been tossed now .. back to chaos, the cold howling wind. and as I've found, to embrace chaos is a cold and lonely task, firstly its so unoccupied. And secondly, my language faulters , waivers, and stops ... so hard to discuss in terms of words which are root bound to science. incidentally I found someone to blame too .. Descartes. Yes, "the founder of modern science", got the idea from a dream state where he claimed to be visited by a holy (religious) artifact he described as an angel. Someone who's history is better understood and repected than mine may be able to support/deny this. From what I understand the young Descartes was young and mischievous, and somehwre on the continent, working for the foreign legion or something. The angle came to him in a vision and said something like "The secret to modern science is through number and measurement" ..(you guys must hate me for not giving accurate, signposted references) And so, our mistake fell into history, and now with the largest cultural artifact yet seen (technology) poised delicately ontop of this, the foundations start to crumble.. ok so.. jaded sim complaint #1 : whats this meta-physical, religious artifact, doing in my science bed? jaded sim complaint #2 : now at this end of the spectrum, after all that has preceded us, we continue our mistake in reductionist reasoning and scientific rationale so far, that we have given "chaos" a number? -the cosmological constant. are we for real ?
  12. quote: Originally posted by reptyle: the problem with the idea of an original condition is that it pressupose that we did infact start from somewhere other than where we are at the moment. we are in fact taking part in our original condition as we speak. original condition is as dynamic as our imaginative ways of defining our surroundings. hope that makes as much sense reading it as it did when i was writting it. haha. never hah yeh I think it did, let me recant in order that I didnt receive it as hypnogogia. > Are you suggesting that the NOW state, is the orignal condition, and the the PAST state is a mere reflection or resonance? That would explain some things, but does not account for the fact my skin is old. > "We are taking part in the original condition state now as we speak." I understand this only as a principle of Karma, the now state being one of sort of ..charge .. if u like. My awareness of the Karmic balance, (you'll notice, not described by any other philosophy that includes Karma), is one I can only liken to either a pendulum, or tide. The pendulum metaphor seems to apply nicely when you can see events being driven, against the path of least resistance, into the path of most resistance. I can almost feel or identify in that sort of environment the cresendo, or watershed, where eventually the weight of pushing the pendulum that far out is too much, something gives, and the sudden rush of the balanced state returns, but _to exactly the opposing direction from whence it was last pushed at the peak of its trajectory_. And the nature of this is fractal, in small ways, in big ways its all the same, and each small ways contributes to the overall swing of things... The tide example comes to mind as a more subtler representation of the same force, however water being more dynamic the metaphor could be endless.. (retreats from drigression) If the original condition is as dynamic as our current awareness or thinking, then all bets are truly off. We forego on accepting original condition, and accept that nothing will stay the same. Was it Sheldrake that got it down to a bumper sticker? "ALL FLOWS" ..so now I am left in a paradox .. in a life that has only one certainty .. which is death, i will live in a condition of constant change brought about by life.
  13. now we are heating and preparing food with fossil fuel .. nicely put cyjack .. still formulating a coherant response
