Trichocereus cuts and some rooted clones

Sorry about your job mate, and hope something works out soon. If you jump onto centrelink pronto they might give you that stimulus thing on top of your allowance. like $700 or more. Don't miss it! So anyway, maybe pop up a few pics of your collection and we might be able to pick out something that takes our fancy. If you sell them as cuttings, you still get to keep the potted stumps which will re-sprout just fine, and you won't lose your collection. Are they in pots or in the ground?

    don't cha hate it when..

Don't you hate it when, you finally get around to mixing up your pesticides and start spraying, but you can't remember where all the other infested plants were, hiding around the garden. So you use up the spray and the next day you start finding all the ones you missed.

Wanted - 10 tricho cuttings of various clones

Here's a couple I can chop up a bit. Very blue and both are fast growing. First is a very rare seed grown peruviana I discovered and named 'Saint Paul' after the guy who planted it in his garden as a seedling. I've been sharing it around and it's just a downright beautiful and unique clone. This second one is an Open Pollinated J3 (peruvianoid). I really like it as it is very fast growing and is so nice to look at. Definitely one of my all time faves. Sorry my pics are taken very late in the day, after the sun had gone down but they are as blue as they look. I'll get better pics tomorrow, but this'll give you an idea. I'll go $1per cm (plus some bonus cm's as always) Lemme know what kinda length you're interested in.

    Thick trichocereus recommendations

Generally yes. Most would look intermediate, while fewer would more closely resemble either parent. But anything can happen really. And they still grow fast

    Where are they?

They've all gone over to FB

    Thick trichocereus recommendations

There have been a few getting around. Especially in recent years. Quite a few people trying to breed some colour into the big girls. Mostly Validus and Terscheckii are bred for their spiritual energy, but if it's just for aesthetics alone, then it's trial and error. Each to their own so sprout a heap and pick out your faves, and one day cross those together and send me some seeds a good one to look out for is Psycho0 x Terscheckii (or was it Terscheckii x Psycho0) -good size and fast growing. Actually ones already in circulation are actually a validus cross (from Cactus Country) but were distributed under the name terscheckii. Not that it really matters that much. They also love being planted in the ground. They'll never reach their full size or girth in a pot. Gotta let these ones loose!

Native privacy screen and scented garden

Did anyone mention Pittosporum undulatum and Hymenosporum flavum. Both are easy to grow and have very nice perfumes.

    Backyard ecology -post your pics!

Not sure how this fits in with ecology, but I was pretty stoked to see these two Fallow deer on our bush block recently.

    Edible Trichocereus fruits

As an edible fruit enthusiast, I've been super keen on edible Tricho fruits for some time, but never really got anywhere with it. Over the years I remember some posts mentioning some awesome spachiana and some good quality icaro fruits. Well anyway never got hold of any cuts or anything, but finally I've stumbled upon some awesome fruits of my own and it has reignited my zeal to breed these fruits. Mine are a peruviana type, and are quite large and sweet. Crunching up the seeds was not so good as they were a littler bit bitter. But I was surprised just how good these fruits were compared with the other tricho fruit I've tried over the years. If a good quality dragonfruit was a '10' for sweetness and flavor, these would be an '8'. So anyway I'd love to hook up with any other like minded people to share these great genetics and hopefully do some hybridizing in the future to develop a superior fruiting tricho. Lemme know if you have a good fruiter. I'd love to get a cut. Cheers!

Bunch of cacti ID's needed from small. Nursery

Myrtillocactus geometrizans, and Pilosocereus are really beautiful species, and your pics look awesome. Neither are considered 'sacred' but who cares. Hope you got some cuttings of those babies!

    Trichocereus naming of hybrids

The hybrid name and the clone name are 2 distinct elemements of any official name. For example an orchid may go by the name Dendrobium speciosum X Dendrobium tetragonum Hilda Poxon 'Measles' . So in this name, there is the botanical parantage, the registered hybrid name (Hilda Poxon), and the clonal name ('Measles'). When we name new seedlings we are actually skipping the 'hybrid' part and giving each one a 'clonal' name. Despite the fact they may or may not be a hybrid at all. Despite this I think we should retain as much parentage info as possible in names and labels. So naming cacti will prolly never fit into the same official system as other plants as the 'horse has already bolted' so to speak, but we can still retain as much info as possible. Some hypothetical examples may be Echinopsis hybrid 'Yowie' X Echinopsis peruviana 'Unicorn ' Or Echinopsis pachanoi 'OP' X Echonopsis bridgesioid 'Lumberjack' 'Superspine' Or Echinopsis unknown X Echinopsis peruviana 'Norma' 'Bluey' Echinopsis unknown X Echinopsis peruviana 'Norma' 'Michelle' Echinopsis unknown X Echinopsis peruviana 'Norma' 'Fred' Etc The only other thing I'd like to add is that I think it's important not to name them after potency etc. The pioneers have done a good job keeping a lid on this, so lets keep it that way, even if it ever becomes a ridiculous new craze to do so.

    Moving to Toowoomba

A nice plant-related place is the Scented Gardens in 'Laurel Bank Park'. From there it's a short walk to the Community Organic Gardens at the other end of Kenric Street. There's also the Botanical Gardens on the corner of Campbell and Lindsay. Also check out Webb Park, Picnic Point, Bill Gould's lookout, Mt Lofty lookout (really good at night) and Boyce Gardens. There's also the Japanese Gardens at the uni. That oughta keep you going for a while.

    Happy new year

The zero alcohol beers are great. I just finished a 12 month stint helping a mate to not drink. Actually I still had the odd middy here and there at home, but whenever I went to his place I only took the zero alcohol varieties, as that was all he was drinking for the year. I have absolutely no problem chosing them any time, they literally taste that good.
