One for the ages...

I wouldn't get too hyped out. There's always a lot of crazy shit going on on the internet. People say the media pushes fear but its more like the internet nut-jobs that are pushing fear, so don't buy into it. Government institutions taking caution is not pushing fear either, it's actually what you'd WANT them to do. And just remember the whole bird-flu thing. Some people went stark raving mad over all the conspiracies and fear-mongering, and then it all just ran it's course without causing the world to end. Just take sensible precautions and you'll be safer than what you'd usually be. Just look at how cases of the flu has dropped this year thanks to social distancing measures. Once a vaccine comes ut and most of the population gets it, the virus will be stopped in it's tracks so you may be able to avoid the vaccine if you really object to it. People only take vaccines because it's the lesser of two evils. No one really WANTS to inject some foreign substance into their body, but if it stops them from dying they'll begrudgingly acquiesce. As for gold. it's already on a run, but remember, any (or all) major governments who want to rescue their economies could at any time dump their gold reserves on the market, crashing it's value. So you wouldn't want to be stuck with it in your hands when the ship goes down. Also if there's a war, Governments can make Gold bullion illegal to own as it gets classified as a strategic resource, and you MUST sell it to the government in return for their 'worthless' paper money. You'd wanna hope your side wins because the losing side just ends up with hyper-inflation and piles of worthless paper notes. Doomsday prepping is a good idea, but I don't think the virus is our biggest concern. -War is.

"Lost Peyotes" and other Psychoactive or Medicinal Cacti
Halcyon Daze replied to Teotzlcoatl's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Nah, people just don't wanna investigate the dearly beloved plants they've spent years procuring and nurturing. Can't blame 'em -
Hey mate, How's it going. I've sprouted many cacti seeds, and had my fair share of failures in the early days. Can you please tell us what seeds you tried and where you got them from. In the past, I've noticed seed quality/ viability has often had a high degree of correlation with failure. If you tell me this info I will tell you my secret seed raising mix recipe.

I predict Donald Trump will fulfill the prophecies of the Book of Revelations and reveal himself as the Antichrist upon his second incarnation, when the planets align in a pentagram in November. The covid demon spawn will rise and the zombie apocalypse will begin.

Hey all. I've been looking for stenos for ages, any kind at all, I don't mind. Cuttings or seed. I'll pay cash or trade. CHEERS!

Misplant seeds are not dirt-cheap but they are top shelf quality, super fresh, and he gives a good amount for your money. His customers are among the most satisfied in the game and you'd be glad you gave him a try.

You can only get seeds that come from an Eileen plant when the pollen has come from a different father plant, so technically the seeds will always be a hybrid. and therfore those seedlings are not an Eileen clone any more, they will be something like 'Eileen X SS02' which would still be very good or maybe better. Eileen X seeds are rare because Eileen is shy to flower. But one place you can get the seeds is at the misplant website. Just scroll down and look for the word eileen, or use the 'Find' tool for the word eileen. If you don't know what the 'find' tool is then let me know and I'll explain. here's the website https://misplant.net/

It's great news. Probably tied up in a few different projects and species and significant to their ongoing conservation. Looks like it provides connectivity between other conservation areas too. Maybe there's some secrets out there like the night parrot. I wouldn't be surprised.

Halcyon Daze replied to withdrawl clinic's topic in Australian Native Plants
Actually, Nicotiana megalosiphon is your best bet based on the location. -
help id native nicotiana?!
Halcyon Daze replied to withdrawl clinic's topic in Australian Native Plants
I've chewed excelsior, it's got kick, and is quite a nice ornamental, but harbors white-fly pretty bad in a lush setting. N. megalosiphon was my pick of the native ornamentals. Pretty common in South West QLD, but very pretty in a cactus garden. -
Hey Micro, sorry, bit confused now... It was a Rosei#2 label according to your auction thread Is this the same one as your pic above? Anyway, it's an absolute fave and I've not cut it yet as I want to breed with it. I really hope for some blooms this year, I wanna cross it with my 'Halcyon Beast' if possible, I reckon they'd make a good pair. (Sorry to divert the thread)

You can resize pics in MS Paint. Just look for the 'resize' option. and save as a different file name. Is Hanrahan in QLD? -
That's interesting I saw that happening on a big peruv in Traralgon, Victoria. Couldn't figure out what was happening. Like flowers reverting back to pups. Pretty weird to see. Not really a good thing either but maybe they are freaky in other ways too. Hey my Roseii-2 ( sister from the same seedbatch) is going hammer and tong mate. 3 big growing columns. It's an absolute ripper, and well worth what I paid for it. Couple other guys are begging for a cut. Can't wait to cross it with something huge.

Facebook sux. Noobs everyehere, claiming to be experts. So much wrong information and people only wanna believe what they want to. Pure chaos, and no in-depth discussions about anything. The SAB page on FB is OK but not as good as the real thing.

Some do it more than others. I love the tightly packed columns the best, right from the base. You can also achieve this via your pruning technique.

hoya australis rediscovered localy
Halcyon Daze replied to withdrawl clinic's topic in Australian Native Plants
I've grown them from cuttings a couple times over the years. Awesome species of hoya. They are tough plants but don't over water them when young. Their soil needs to be free draining and loamy. I'd say African violet mix could be pretty good for them. Actually start with African violet mix and add a couple hand fulls of regular crusher dust, and a couple handfulls of coconut coir chunks and you'll have a ripper hoya Australis mix.
