Best conditions for my Peyote seedling?

Thanks Teo, I was only joking about the waiting, I know how impatient I am. Don't worry, in the 2 hours I was waiting, I spent the whole time researching on the net, and I have actually been looking into this for a few weeks. I joined this forum in January, but I've only been reading until the past week. From my post you can see that I have done research, just wanting some opinions from more experienced peeps. Most info on the net doesn't actually mention when to transfer them out of the humidity box anyway. Nothing as specific as "1 week after germination", generally it just says after 4-6 weeks, you should've moved them out of the humidity box and into a box with muslin across the top. Does this mean 4-6 weeks after they actually sprout, or 4-6 weeks after first planting seeds. (cause depending on when your seeds germinate, that might be too soon or too late) I'm only asking for advice on what I should do right now, with the unsterile seedlings that I have. Bearing in mind that my little seedling has fungus starting to colonise it already, should I get this out of the moist environment ASAP, or should I still give it a little longer in the humid box? Best conditions for my Peyote seedling?

It's been over 2 hours, come on guys this is a Lophophora! That means it's almost ready for harvesting, and I haven't got a reply yet. I know I'm impatient, but I just went ahead and moved the little tike into the strofoam box with the Muslin across the top. I haven't added any water, I'm just going to let the soil dry up slightly, and then maybe bottom water at some point tomorrow. If anything goes wrong, be it on your heads. :D [ 27. cacti fertilzers

quote: Also, what I do is keep a tank of goldfish next to my cacti. Whenever they need some water I just scoop it out. That way they get dilute organic fertilizer in every watering, and I don't need to wait for the water to warm up after coming out of the tap. Not to mention it keeps the fishwater clean. Anyone ever tried aquaponics? A while back I grew some tasty lettuce in a homemade system with goldfish. Most people throw their aquarium water down the toilet or drain when performing a water change, but I always use it to water the garden. One reason you shouldn't discard this water down the drain, is the very slight chance that it could make it to the waterways and possibly infect wild fish with diseases that aquarium-kept fish are quite prone to. Or, even less likely, it could introduce snails, fish, or other critters into the waterways. And our government has already done enough damage that way, there's no need for us to help. (Look up Gambusia) But the other reason, is that you are wasting perfectly good liquid fertiliser! I started up a new aquarium recently and every 2 weeks I change 40L of water in it. I put all 40L that I take out (which is nicely tannin stained and has little floaty bits of fish doo-doo, all good stuff) directly into the ground around a 1.5m Banana tree we have here. I started doing this just in spring, since then it has sent up 4 new plants (about 30cm tall) in it's immediate vicinity, and grown about 30cm itself aswell as a whole bunch of lush leaves. This is more growth than it's shown in the past 2 years! In an aquarium, rotting plant matter and fish waste creates Ammonia. Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria in the filter (and every other surface in the aquarium) then break the Ammonia down into Nitrite, and then Nitrate. Most of these chemicals are good for plants in one way or another, so pour it onto your garden. In these times of drought and water restrictions you feel a little less guilty, about using 40L of water a fortnight for a hobby, when it means 40L less coming out of your hose later on. It's like taking your water, and adding value to it! :D

    A big statement ?

I'm definitely no expert on Cacti, I just put up this post asking for help with Peyote. But, I'm pretty sure Darcy has white flower Lophophora on Herbalistics. The site isn't working for me right now though, so I can't give you the link.

    Nymphaea Caerulea Blue Lotus Season

Good luck to you Psycho. Just remember that nymphaea need AT LEAST 4-6 hours of direct sunlight a day to really thrive, and especially if you expect them to flower. And if you are growing them in pots, they need to be repotted just when they start their new growth every spring, but before any leaves have made it to the surface. And they use a huge amount of nutrients, so re-fertilise at this time too. A heavy clay based soil is the best thing to pot them in, mixed with maybe 20% sand. I put a few teaspoons of osmocote in a tissue and bury it about ¾ of the way down in the soil. Some people also just use about 30-40% horse or cow manure in their potting mix, as fertiliser, instead.

    Curry plant from SAB

Thanks for clearing that up. The plant I got from SAB has narrow blue-ish foliage, and smells exactly like curry powder. So what've I got? [ 26. February 2005, 16:09: Message edited by: Benzito ]

    Best soil for peyote seedlings

I covered it with a fine dusting, about 2-3mm thick. Nothing much. But I'm talking about a tiny little bud. Pinhead size. So it does 'poke up' through that much soil. But someone please: Should I remove this little seedling from the humidity box or keep it in for a few weeks?

    Best soil for peyote seedlings

Well, for anyone who's interested. It's been one week exactly, and I have one little green bud pushing through the soil (I said it was crappy 'cactus mix'). Only thing is, the cotton wool I got poking out the bottom of the pots(as a wick for bottom watering) is going slightly green. When should I remove the pot from the humidity chamber? I don't want fungus to mess with my little seedling.

    Pressure Cooker

I wanna look around locally for a PC, but I'm not exactly sure where to start. What sort of business is Victoria's Basement? I don't think there'll be one way out west where I am, but I'll just look at similar places. What kind of stores sell PC's? Grace Bros? Can anyone save my fingers from having to do a bit of walking?

    coleus & tagetes lucida

Rev, I actually find Tagetes Lucida smoke to be quite pleasant. I occasionally smoke 'rollies' of this just to relax. (I quit smoking a year ago, and still yearn) It has quite mild effects, and when combined with MJ I get closed-eye visuals. I find it to be a good 'spin' for smoking cones. Tomer - look up 'flor des los muertos' for more info on this plant. But I can't help you with the Coleus Blumei.

    Nymphaea Caerulea Blue Lotus Season

In my experience growing in ponds, generally they will only send up a few flowers each summer. But, they will lose all their leaves by the end of autumn and then re-grow from the corm/tuber at the start of spring. And you can have another harvest. So, you would probably want to be growing a few plants if hoping to get more than one dose. All this said: I have never actually grown the Nymphaea for this kind of use yet. Only recently tried the extract from herbalistics, and think I need to look into it!

    opium or mj

I can verify, somewhat reliably, that MJ has very little effect on your liver. I have a very sensitive body, I guess you could say. Any drug that 'may induce nausea', does. I actually vomit at least once a week, and normally nothing to do with drugs. I am always conscious of my stomach and I can 'feel' whenever anything is wrong. Stomach grumbles feel like my stomach doing somersaults to me. I just seem to be quite sensitive to my internal organs. (If anyone could explain this, I would love to know why I feel this way) When I drink alcohol, or Kava, I can actually feel my liver. I become aware of it, and the fact that it's working hard. (Not necessarily scientific, but I try to trust the feelings my body gives me) Until recently, I smoked about 2-3 gms MJ a day, for about 4 years and never noticed any effect on my liver. A huge amount of mental effects, and some wonderfully crushing depression, but no noticeable body load so to speak. I know this really is not any kind of tangible evidence, but I am MJ's biggest fan :D and I believe what I am telling you to be true.

    Nymphaea Caerulea Blue Lotus Season

Obviously I'm not from either of these stores, but I'm pretty sure that Herbalistics wild-harvest their flowers, and I can't see the plants for sale on SAB anywhere. Only dried flowers and extracts from either of those guys.

    Flor Des Los Muertos

I've bought it from Herbalistics a couple of times now, I find it to be quite nice. It is very pleasant to smoke dry or in a water pipe, and seems to give slight visual effects. When I smoke it with MJ, I get slight closed-eye visuals(SLIGHT) and found that it made the fireworks on NYE look awesome! That said, it could've also been the LSA, Sceletium, MJ, alcohol, and awesome Chinese food. :D Gotta love china town.

reason behind alkaloid content of plants

As far as alkaloids deterring animals: My rabbit once ate some of my morning glory vine, and tripped HARD for 3 days. Sat in one place in the backyard, even when it was pissing down rain. Even though he normally runs around like a lunatic all day long. He just sat there looking terrified the whole time. However, he now tries to eat the MG at every chance he gets! He has had a few other cases of catatonia, and I can only interpret it as him tripping. He has also just recently decided he likes wormwood. After a few months, in which he never touched it, he just went nuts and stripped a small plant in the space of two days! So, he hasn't been deterred by alkaloids yet. And neither have I. :D Just in-case your interested, the 'flying saucers' are his favourite MG. I've also got blue stars, and pearly gates but he's not as keen on them. ???

Is this a real Kava (Piper methysticum)?

I think I understand how you must feel. I would dearly love to own a Kava plant. And whatever it is you have there is getting to a good size. It would suck to find out it is something else. Try digging up one piece of root, and test it out. Best way to test for Kavalactones? (scientific methods aside)

    A big statement ?

quote: theres a big difference between treatment and cure tho! i think cure might be taking it a bit far... but it may help Why? Modern medicine is yet to find a 100% effective, and PAINLESS, cure for cancer. What's to say they aren't just looking in the wrong place. Too many people underrate plants. Who here has suffered depression? And who has used St. John's Wort to treat it? In clinical trials it outperforms Zoloft and other prescription anti-depressants! I found it to be excellent!
