  2. Hospital removes eel from man's bum

A man sought emergency treatment at hospital in Auckland this week with an eel stuck up his bottom.

The unnamed individual presented himself at the A&E department at Auckland City Hospital to explain his embarrassing problem.

It is believed the patient was sent for X-rays and a scan, which showed there was an eel lodged inside him.

"The eel was about the size of a decent sprig of asparagus and the incident is the talk of the place," a hospital source said. "Doctors and nurses have come across people with strange objects that have got stuck where they shouldn't be before, but an eel has to be a first."

It is unclear how the eel managed to be trapped inside the man. It is believed medics successfully removed it and the man was later discharged.

A hospital spokesman last night confirmed the bizarre incident had taken place.

"In response to a direct query from the Herald on Sunday, we can confirm that an adult male presented at Auckland City Hospital this week with an eel inside him," Matt Rogers, spokesman for Auckland District Health Board, said.

He added: "No further comment will be made out of respect for the patient's right to privacy."

According to the Department of Conservation website, there are two main types of eel found in New Zealand - the shortfin and the longfin.

Eels migrate up streams as elvers to find suitable adult habitat. After many years they migrate to the Pacific Ocean to breed and die. Eels are secretive, nocturnal and prefer habitats with plenty of cover. They hunt by smell rather than sight.

  3. wouldnt be much different then using vegetable oils like most soaps are made of.....usually they press the oils from coconut etc..aloe vera has been added to many cosmetics....usually one would prob go about the usual way of making soap and cook the cactus into sodium hydroxide and fat mix....similiar to this done with strawberrys!soaps easys to make and one can pretty much put anything in it from calendula petals to paprika or even coffee for a morning scrub...gettin the ratio of fats & sodium hydroxide to form soap is the secret there are calculators that do that nowadays on soap making sites.....

  6. Police in Washington have launched an investigation after a man ordered a television set via Amazon and ended up with a high-powered assault rifle instead.

Seth Horvitz contacted police immediately after he was delivered a military style weapon.

‘They [police] were a little confused at first. They’ve never seen anything quite like it’ he said while speaking to local Fox 5.

‘They just took my information and then said: ‘We’ll handle this weapon because it’s illegal to keep it here’ It’s illegal to transport in a car, so it can’t be returned’

An invoice inside the box suggested the rifle was supposed to go to a Pennsylvania gun shop, despite the box being addressed to Horvitz.

‘We’ve seen in recent weeks the tremendous damage these guns can do’ said Dan Gross president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

‘We have to be better than a nation where assault weapons are so prevalent and can so easily end up in dangerous hands. It’s deeply disturbing’ he added.

  7. "Although most people see Christmas as a Christian holiday, many of the symbols and icons we associate with Christmas celebrations are actually derived from the shamanistic traditions of the tribal peoples of pre-Christian Northern Europe.

The sacred mushroom of these people was the red and white amanita muscaria mushroom, also known as "fly agaric." These mushrooms are now commonly seen in books of fairy tales, and are usually associated with magic and fairies. This is because they contain potent hallucinogenic compounds, and were used by ancient peoples for insight and transcendental experiences.

Most of the major elements of the modern Christmas celebration, such as Santa Claus, Christmas trees, magical reindeer and the giving of gifts, are originally based upon the traditions surrounding the harvest and consumption of these most sacred mushroom"

  9. "Bioengineers have made an artificial jellyfish using silicone and muscle cells from a rat’s heart. The synthetic creature, dubbed a medusoid, looks like a flower with eight petals. When placed in an electric field, it pulses and swims exactly like its living counterpart."

“Morphologically, we’ve built a jellyfish. Functionally, we’ve built a jellyfish. Genetically, this thing is a rat,” says Kit Parker, a biophysicist at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, who led the work. The project is described today in Nature Biotechnology1.

Parker’s lab works on creating artificial models of human heart tissues for regenerating organs and testing drugs, and the team built the medusoid as a way of understanding the “fundamental laws of muscular pumps”. It is an engineer’s approach to basic science: prove that you have identified the right principles by building something with them.

  10. how does he reconcile that it cuts off electrical equipment when approached? i'm non geologist is there rocks what can do that?

quartz crystal can be charged with electricity..with piezoelectricity...
