Competition? Was I running an ethnobotany or hydroponics store without being aware of it?

Looks like a pretty poor site all round. The only way to order is to email? Then what's the advantage of them being in sydney? Why is everything in CAPS? How come the store only has a few of each plant in stock?

nabraxas, that's a bit extremist don't you think? They have laws against murder etc in Germany, but the cops there don't carry guns.

    Laws In NSW ?

Check the SAB store. If it's on there, it's legal to grow, at least.

    What have I done!

Hi. It appears my at least semi competent gardening thumb has turned black. My peyote was outside a few weeks ago, it caught the full brunt of hail/run storm that went for an entire night. I moved it inside to a clone propagation chamber I built with approx 40W of blue spectrum fluorescent lighting in it. The damage simply progressed and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. What have I done?! :'( You can see it looks at least semi ok from one side, but the other side has gone a whitish gray with a few red spots. I moved it next to my computer monitor, so it isn't getting a lot of light right now. Here are some photos, sorry for the poor quality, I need a better camera. What can I do to to help the plant? It isn't really squishy if I tentatively try and squeeze it, it's a little soft I guess but not mushy. Help!

    Some older paintings

I am shortly moving my website to a new place, with an eye to hosting other peoples websites also, as long as they're cool. If you want free hosting, I'd be glad to do it, as long as you update semi-frequently with more beautiful paintings [ 02. March 2005, 21:03: Message edited by: apothecary ]

    What have I done!

No I made sure that there was little to no humidity and good air circulation going. I'm not sure I'd call this one dead, but it looks hurt and that makes me sad.

    Gallery is a bit messy

I think a much more elegant solution would be to use a per user gallery integrated into the forum, like overgrow has. That way each user has their own gallery and can modify, etc their pictures as they please. I realise the SAB gallery is special, and that it isn't just for forum people to post their photos, but yeah. At the very least it would mean people could use SAB without having 3 logins (one for shop, one for forum, one for gallery).

I hope you're right :'( I plan on ordering several more lophs soon, but this one is special to me, it's several years old and has a very calming effect on me. Do you think I should put it back outside? Keep it inside?

5 policemen torture drug suspect for hours

The problem with areas like Macquarie Fields is like you said, the government housing. Not that it's a bad thing, just that people who can afford it are simply moving out, leaving only the worst off out of all the people. This drags the standard of living in the area further down and only makes things worse.

Aptenia cuttings and material for processing

Maca, that's an interesting comment, although my gnome gets all his weed (NAUGHTY GNOME!) from his hippy, or a kid who grew up on the same street as him. As such, it's all stuff grown from strains ordered at seedsdirect (gotta love these new fandangled strains) or stuff straight from nimbin. So bad weed isn't really an issue for my gnome. You've tipped my distaste and I've changed my shopping list at herbalistics from 1g of sceletium to 2g Let me ask you something... does it make you sniff a lot? I really hate chemicals such as speed and coke (things you'd snort) so I have literally 0 experience when it comes to putting anything but air or my finger in my nose. So do you tend to sniff a lot like I hear people do after doing a line of coke or similar? What's the best method of "doing" sceletium.

    cacti width vs pot width

Maybe it's not really a corellation between pot width and cactus width as much as giving the cactus more root space, so it feels more like its "natural" enviroment and grows more accordingly?

    cannabis seeds...legal?

I seriously doubt it. I can't quote anything specific because my research gnome is fucking stoned. I believe peoples seed packs from places like seedsdirect and heavenly stairways have been nabbed by .au customs people many times now. [ 01. March 2005, 20:37: Message edited by: apothecary ]

    The politics of cannabis

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say... Just in the same way that opium comes from a plant, so do buds. The whole sinsemillia process of growing cannabis is literally human inteference to get just what we want. At least with opium it's simply part of the natural process. If you're saying the government is interfering and everyone should be allowed to do what they want, then why don't we abolish rape and murder laws too? Not all laws are irrational. Just because one is, and it is a freedom of choice issue, doesn't mean we should abolish all laws. Opium addiction can easily be detrimental to society. Even if people were allowed to grow and harvest their own, if they ran out and were hooked they'd end up stealing it from someone or something. "It's just a plant" simply isn't a good rationale. Lots of things are just things. Why can't we say mj has been used for millenia, has been found to have minor health affects and isn't likely to harm anyone in particular, therefore it is ok?

    The politics of cannabis

creach that article is something I'd call bullshit on. Firstly, it says they follow over 1000 people born in 1977 for 25 years. Then it says they interview them at age 18, 21 and 25. How does that work? Secondly, people have been using cannabis since time immemorial. Quite frankly, I'd like these New Zealand researchers to come up with a better explanation than "duh it changes the chemical makeup of the brain". What chemicals? How? How constant use are we talking about? When do the effects start? It looks to me like they went in, gave surveys to a large sample group and decided on a verdict based on that. Why doesn't the article say anything about the regular cannabis users OTHER drug use? As far as I know, that's easily the single failing point of every single one of these studies. They never take into account that usually regular cannabis users also take other drugs.
