Yup! Prickly pears are delicious! (and rumored to be one of the most therapeutic fruits on the planet) We own land in the northern darling downs and despite the governments best efforts, they are EVERYWHERE. I've seen one that's at least 15ft tall. I wonder how well grafting onto an established opuntia would go?

I've got 2 opuntias that I intend on crossing too. A really slow growing one that has tiny white furry prickles that hurt like buggery, that you can't EVER get out and the classic invasive prickly pear (never fear local government, it's in a big pot). Hybrid of terror!!

Thanks for the advice whitewind! What I sprayed it with is barely enough to worry about, I think if I were to rinse it off now that might be a little too wet. There is 3" metal stand in the bottom of the bucket so that it doesn't stay waterlogged. And it has a nice warm place in my laundry to sit over a heatmat on a cold night like tonight. I'm feeling fairly confident. But keep the comments and advice coming in.

It used to the the pride and joy of the kitchen, sitting on top of the fridge and the whole family enjoyed it's delicious beverage. But then one sad day it went missing.... Atleast 5 years later, while cutting back an overwhelming holly bush in the front yard, i find this jar wedged between the fence and the trunk of this tree, with an ancient, faded, disgusting chux over the top of it. Yeah it's still alive, it's got about 20 layers, the bottom 10 are clean, but the others are full of dirt and dead insects. I'll post a pic up after I've cleaned it up and 'repotted it' into some tea. I have no idea why it was out there, but clearly it wasn't bothered by it.

I've got 2 types of cereus, one with really long spines and one with barely any spines at all, I crossed them last year, got heaps of deliciously sticky, sugary fruit and heaps of the seeds germinated. I do not grow poppies, have not grown poppies in the past, nor do I ever intend on growing poppies in the future. Due to my law abiding ways! I know none of the below from experience, but purely from my love of reading and my fascination with botany. There are 2 different types of poppies Alba- (Izmir, Danish Flag, Afghan Special, China White, Indian White, Persian White) which is a hairless white flower, or white towards the center and pink or red on the tips of the petals. They have white/tan/sandy coloured seed and is what is generally grown for the manufacture of heroin (due to it's high morphine content and lower thebaine). Also it's codeine content is reportedly higher. Negro (Turkish Blue, Hungarian Blue, Tasmanian White, Giganthemum, Wizard of Oz, Hens and Chicks, Golden Triangle). Mostly hairy, but sometimes not, the flowers have a dark purple towards the center and a variety of colours like pink, purple, red and white on the tips of the petals. It is grown for the manufacture of Oxycontin for their higher Thebaine (paramorphine) content, which is what Oxycontin is made of. Tasmanian White (top1 variety) has been specifically bred to synthesize more thebaine instead of morphine specifically for this market. Which is why you'll find that Tasmania produces over 70% of the worlds opiates. I strongly advise against the cultivation of Papaver Somniferum in Australia as it is scheduled and all parts of the plant (excluding seed) are illegal.

I've had a raging hard-on for these for a very long time now. So now is the time, I'm going to get a few different corms off the net, specifically Konjac and Titananum. I'm in SE QLD and my blueberries grow fine. My mate down the road is a pretty novice gardener and has a poverty stricken blueberry bush that gets berries on it too. (you can also get special warm weather varieties at bunnings.) So I say yes.
