    Loph strain swap

I thought I'd create this thread for interested people to post in if they have some Loph cuttings which they want to trade with others in exchange for other strains of loph cuttings to variegate the strains used in grafts and gain some different shapes and types. Other ideas could involve special strains for trade such as Diffusa (which I'm especially keen for a cutting of), or Will Jourdaniana, texana, etc. Currently I have a few small LW cuttings I can trade for other types if anyone's keen?

    Loph seedlings

I've done some loph seed germination before and also found my main and number 1 problem is the moss killing the seedlings through rot. Even after sterilizing the sand, using boiling water etc, cooling then planting the seeds, putting in a humid container for ages and not opening, I noticed the moss/fungi would still grow. After this I had tried spraying a very diluted fungicide over it too and the moss still didn't competely go away and lots of the cacti perished when I tried to dry the moss out through slight ventillation cause they'd get too dry and weren't quite ready. Will be experimenting with germination again this summer. Evilgenius -> what is the more expensive soil and does it have enough coarseneess and water holding properties to allow for drainage/moisture holding?

    Most of my collection

amazing cacti, are you in Egypt? Was amazed at how unblemished that big grafted Loph was, no bug marks at all! How do you keep all those cacti in full African sun all day without any sunburn, especially with the Lophs?
  9. Wild Lophs growing in the desert. I'd like to see that in the Australian Outback!!

FOR SALE: Loph grafts and cuttings

No worries guys, glad they arrived safely. Packaging some of those heavy prickly or delicate spineless cacti sure is a hard job sometimes to send it safely and overcome it's fragility! Glad the extra packaging and cushioning succeeded!

    Yerba Mate lovers thread

Thanks Tort. By cooking do you mean boiling in a big pot and straining with a fine filter or using it in food? I'll also have a look on the net for that Venezualan molten drink, sound interesting and delicious!! I still recall a nice big mature Yerba Mate tree in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and was still wondering if it's possible to do some kind of home roasting in the oven or if it needs a heavy cooking process like standard Tea leaves?

Will Rekowski aka Gomaos has died.

wow, this news is suprising. I've also done trades with him in the past and learned a lot about plants and cacti from his posts. What happened to him? Who was the other SAB member that passed away recently?

    Yerba Mate lovers thread

Hey man, I have a spring one but used a flat one with some slits in both sides at the end. Thanks, that'd be great if you could ask your friend. Yes, me and some Porto Allegre friends took his bombilla to a park and used the powdered Mate I bought it worked properly. Maybe he had a certain kind of bombilla. I have about 3 and will keep trying them, but I've been finding the hole keep getting blocked up with the powder Here are a pic with a few different types of bombilla I found:

me too! Also, does anyone know if there will be a cactus exhibition at the Royal Show next week in Melbourne?
  20. In 2006 I bought a Turner Diffusa (Damiana) plant from SAB but as it was still young I think the wintery conditions in my city caused it to wilt away. Since then I haven't seen this plant anywhere! Also looking for: - a nice potency variety of Calea Zacatechi plant - Egyptian Blue lotus flowers and/or extract - a Schisandra plant - potently hot chilli plants If anyone has any I'd love to trade/buy, please PM me

    SALE: Grafted Lophs (Updated 2/9/11)

soz, thought the threads were free for all to contribute and grouped by topic and not restricted to seller. I know admins usually prefer people to post under the same topic rather then creating multiple duplicated threads for the same thing, but if it bothers you I'll create a new one.

    Importing a Hookah into Australia?

Hey Hendry, Magnificent hookah! How much was the actual pipe? I brought one back from Egypt in 2005, declared it to Singapore and Australian customs and it was ok but since then mine rusted and I threw it away. Do you have any more for sale?
