Really? Never even heard of anyone having that issue. Given your location why would you use plastic? I assume the pots over there are very cheap.
(Its not very humid in SW WA)

This dude used to be in a hanging basket, i wouldnt recommend it.
Currently in a largeish terracotta pot on top of a bar stool, the thing took off in the pot.
