  1. What size should they be before consuming and how do you know when they are ready..

in situations where consuming such cacti does not infringe any local laws, it is generally accepted that san pedro (trichocereus pachanoi) or other trichocereus species be substituted for peyote, since they are much faster growing. peyote is often grown for conservation purposes only.

  2. so what kind of effects do you get pigdog? or is it just used as a cigarette substitute?

personally i'd rather just kick the nicotine addiction, weather the withdrawals, and get down to the nasty business of conquering the psychological/habitual side of things ... any suggestions there would be greatly appreciated ... substitution not being an acceptable method wink.gif

  3. cars make great planters smile.gif

i'd have to agree about the synergy between salvia and ... er ... um ... i find that the experience is usually one of greater clarity, a pleasant detachment, slightly dissociative ... definitely enhances the "here now" sensation, and lends itself to introspection and subtler perceptions ... there's something in there, no doubt.

  4. These are the ones that will be disappearing first due to Lupus' government's lack of concern about CO2 controls.

not just the US. have you seen australian news lately? our fearless fascist leader is doing his best to make australia the world leader in carbon emissions negligence, nay, sheer disregard of the issue. in fact legislation has just been passed approving the burning of woodchips as renewable energy! nice one johnny.

    how's the UK on emissions?

  5. on the subject of mixing ...

my favourite smoking mix at the moment is california poppy, salvia dried leaf, and ... umm ... some other herb i ... ah ... don't remember the name of wink.gif

makes for a very pleasant "high" indeed, and tobacco free, roll a few and chill out in the garden smile.gif

  6. have you managed to breakthrough with 10x rev? i haven't any experience with it, but looking like that may be the way to go since i can't seem to cram enough 5x in to get me further into salvia space ...

  7. why not make your own? you can order dried foliage from within or outside australia, and there's plenty of extraction information on the net ... try seibert's site (don't know the url off hand)

acetone from your local hardware store can be used as the solvent.

  8. recently bought some x preisii seed, trying to germinate them with artifical smoke crystals ... they really smell like bushfires smile.gif

i've just got them in seed raising mix, smoke crystals on soil surface, covered with plastic and sitting outside in filtered sunlight (or they will be if it ever stops raining in sydney)

if you're in sydney these can be found at the wildflower florist in darling harbour, along with the smoke crystals

  9. i spent a bit of time working on a fruit tree nursery a couple of years ago ... we sowed the inner kernel of mango seeds, length along the vertical, about as deep as they are long. unfortunately i wasn't around long enough to see them germinate frown.gif

i don't know the botanical term for it, but the seeds have several parts, and each one can germinate seperately ... beautiful smooth soft ... amazing seed

    good growing!

  10. rk's right ... at a grass roots level, there could be alot more networking going on ...

as some may know ... i'm in sydney, if you are too feel free to drop me an email, we could meet up, or if you're passing through you're welcome to drop in, even if only for a safe sanctuary on the way to wherever...

    happiness to all

  11. so how deep is too deep for a seed?

as a general rule, seed should be sown at a depth equal to 2 times their diameter ... any deeper and they may not make it. if they've sprouted already before sowing, use your own judgement depending on the stage of growth of the sprout

  13. don't quote me smile.gif but generally it is temperature and moisture that are critical to a seed's germination.

light becomes a factor as soon as the seedling breaks the soil, the seed is designed (?) to supply enough nutrients to the new shoot to get it to the surface, once there photosynthesis becomes the main source of energy for the plant. this is why depth is so important to seed raising, because if the food stores of the seed run out before the seedling reaches the surface, and therefore light, then it will die.

did the calamus actually sprout while soaking in the water? interesting ... be careful that you didn't plant them to deep for the above reasons

  15. interesting question ... i guess it would depend on the individual. at any rate, i think the use of hemlock has been confirmed in closely-guarded formulae handed down over the ages ... but then again i may not know what i'm talking about at all
