  1. Breathe slowly mesc.....all in good time. BARGAIN! Guess I'll plug away with my Fagor Duo: http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/products/fagor/duo-pressure-cooker/pressure-cookers-amp-amp-accessories Take advantage of U.S. Imports now,it's our turn to get a fair deal, retailers and alike ;-) Might not last long...all I want for Christmas is a 23 Quart P.C MOFO :-)

Do it, Mescalito. DO IT! I got raped when I bought my All American Pressure Cooker last year. Shipping cost $150 as I got a relative in the U.S. to forward it to me and individuals don't get discounts on shipping rates. Furthermore, the Aussie dollar was not too flash at the time. However, it's the best pressure cooker.

  2. Okay.

Could anyone come to an agreement on a good mix for the following?

    a) loph seeds

    and

    B) Pach seeds

For example, 2 parts this, 1 part this and 3 parts this etc.

I went and bought a bag of coarse sharp river sand today for $5 and I washed a batch and have it drying it the sun.

  3. Hey geezers,

Does anyone know where I could get a decently priced laminar flow hood in Australia? I have searched online and find plenty of places overseas that have cheap flow hoods but shipping them here would require me to sell my first born child and some kidneys.

I am sure they must have some places here that sell reconditioned second hand flow hoods from old labs etc but I can not find anything.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  4. The cheapest price I found in Australia for the same one is $200 and that's without shipping. Shipping will cost you between $10 and $30 depending on the state that you're in. http://www.redbacktrading.com.au/index1.html

Retailers in Australia are crying foul and they want the government to scrap the rule that allows us to get items that are under $1000 from overseas without paying tax. However, even if we were to pay 10% GST we still save a fortune. If you were to add GST on it you still would have saved yourself at least $80.

  5. Yeah, on Saturday the 8th of January or Sunday the 9th of January is cool by me as most people work during the week. Why don't we make an official thread for this and see what dates suit people so we can get lots of people? I don't mind if we give or take a week or what ever.

The South Perth foreshore has BBQ facilities. This site even says that they are free to use http://www.westernaustralia.com/en/Pages/Destination.aspx?n=South_Perth&pid=9004921

If you want to go to a pub afterwards or top up on booze supplies then there is the Windsor Hotel which is close by http://www.windsorhotel.com.au/

What normally happens at these meets? Does anyone trade cuttings or anything?

  6. Hey guys,

Just thought I'd give you a heads up. I got an email from Amazon.com which told me that there is a sale on pressure cookers. I mentioned this recently and a 23 quart Presto pressure cooker was $130ish delivered to your door in AUS. However, as I write this it costs $107.35 to get it delivered to Australia. ZOMG!!!! ORLY?!?!?!

So all you mycophiles who have to deal with hot water baths or shitty cookers might want to buy yourself a nice Christmas present. Better yet, get an All American Pressure cooker cos I can confirm that they are totally pimpin'.

    Kind regards,

    Migraineur

  7. Hey guys,

I have been sitting on my seeds for close to two months and want to get them planted fast. Santiago said he uses sand from around the Bassendean/Kiara area in Perth's eastern suburbs. I went for a walk there today and it seemed to be a little too fine. It did not seem like 'coarse sharp sand' that I believe I am meant to be looking for.

Then I went to the Swan River and found what I believe is coarse sharp sand. Would sand from the river be suitable? I am guessing I will need to rinse it thoroughly first but that's about as far as I got so far. Should I mix some perlite or vermiculite into the mix or any fertiliser?

By the way, my seeds are T. Pachanoi and T. Brigessi.

    Regards,

    Migraineur

  8. Hey, mate. Check out this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicinal_mushrooms

You will find a list of mushrooms and their benefits etc.

Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms by Paul Stamets is also a great book. It is very detailed and has all of the growth parameters etc for the various types of medicinal mushrooms. You can find it on Amazon for $30. http://www.amazon.com/Growing-Gourmet-Medicinal-Mushrooms-Stamets/dp/1580081754/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292498824&sr=8-1

  9. Nah, it won't. Shiitake doesn't like coir and this is confirmed by the mycologist Marc Keith. You'll need to find some good hardwood substrates for shiitake. If you have any mills or anything near you then you should be able to get some bags of hardwood sawdust. Make sure you know exactly what's in the sawdust because you don't want to end up with a mixture that will mess up your attempt.

  10. Jars are great, man. If you want to fruit then spawn the grain to coir or something. This is a great and very simple tek http://www.shroomery.org/10858/How-to-do-Coir

Go to Bunnings and get yourself a white plastic bucket and lid from the storage section. It'll cost you about $10 for the bucket. Go to the garden section and get a brick of coir which is about $2.50. Get yourself some vermiculite if you don't have any. Small bags are kinda pricey and if you go to a hydroponics shop then you'll be able to get a massive bag for about $40 or so. This will last for a long time.

If you don't want to make a monotub then you can use the above tek to make trays. Buy yourself some lasagna trays from Woolies or something. You can also use dark plastic trays if you have some in your kitchen. Then what you do is make a thin layer of your coir/verm mix on the bottom, then you sprinkle a layer of grain. Repeat the process until you reach the top of the dish and then cover it with aluminium foil. Poke about 6 holes in the foil and leave them in a dark place for about two weeks and once the mycelium has covered the top then you can put them into a fruiting chamber.

You could always try using oven bags too.

  11. Yeah well we wont go into what happened there :BANGHEAD2:

regardless, i wont be in a position to order more Myco bags until Feb. So i'm just going to have to work with what i have on hand.

I've set up the elements to weld a 60mm X 45mm rectangle, the tricky bit will be where the element crosses itself.

We'll see how the weld go's tomorrow i guess, the real test will come next month when i can inoculate a bag or two.

Why don't you use jars instead?

  12. dont ya have to be over 18 to be on this forum? ozjwerta :P a nice shady secluded spot should be the go. hey santiago its all yours to set up :P i cant be farked these days  just not up your way :P south perth or shelley forshore sounds good. there was a WA cactus club meeting/picnic at riverton forshore yesterday. wat about januray the 10th? if i set it up its gonna be down the road from me :P

  13. yea im fine with that what about every one else

and i think after summer would probly be the go unless any ones knows a better time

Summer isn't too bad. Just do it later in the arvo when it starts to cool down etc. We could always walk to a pub/bar.

  14. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about shelter dogs and psychological issues due to neglect. However, I was looking at rescue/shelter dogs that were handed in by their owners for reasons like moving or no time to commit to the dog because of young children etc.

I would love to have a red heeler again too. One of the things that'll be hard to stop them doing is nipping at people's feet because they're working dogs.

  15. not to bad

just need somewere every one can get to i dont have a car either so mabye close to a train station would be good

any noe else got any good ideas for were and when

Well, what about South Perth foreshore or Kings Park or something? If you look at Google Maps then you can easily see where parks and other places are in relation to public transport routes etc.

  16. Yeah, I've had a few but not for a few years now. I have grown up with dogs and a few other animals. I was shattered when they died but it was from old age and it happens.

It is not a decision I am making easily and I have been researching about various breeds, their temperaments, requirements and so on. I have also found a dog training club nearby. Getting a slightly older dog would be good due to the fact that they should be house trained already and might have some other training. I might be able to find a good dog that needs rescuing too as there are plenty of dogs that need good homes.

  17. why doesnt someone organize a meet up/ trade day???

I'd be keen for this meet. It would probably make it easier if it was close to the city because that makes it easier for everyone although I'm willing to drive.

In regards with quarantine rules, they are fucked. I have had to get a contact from another forum over east to order some things for me. Once they recuperate a little and grown then I will get him to send me cuttings in rock wool. I am hoping it works out okay cos I couldn't find anyone on this forum in Perth who has B. Caapi and P. Viridis. I'd be willing to help others out if my plan works out. It also gives me a back up plan in case I have any disasters. This is what I do with my mycology work. Buddy system for the win!

  18. sausage dogs are 1400 bucks...at the mo pure bred and good blood line, wouldnt go over a thou for a rotty.

I love dogs and I want a companion but I also want a good guard dog that'll make some junkie think twice before he jumps my fence. Rottweilers are also in the list of top 10 smartest dogs. There are others that I'd choose also like the cane corso but I think I'd have to get one from South Australia and they're already expensive enough without having to spend more on importation fees.
