Make a glove box, man. Go to the storage section of Bunnings and get yourself a clear plastic tub. Go to the plumbing section and buy two couplings. Cut holes in the glove box for the couplings. I heated up a stanley knife over the stove and used it to cut/melt the holes for my couplings. You could use a soldering iron too or one of those drill bits that makes holes. Then put your couplings into the holes and put some silicone around the edges to set them in place. This is optional for some but you can buy a pair of dish washing gloves and tape them over the couplings to make it more air tight. I leave one glove off when doing agar work because the gloves can limit my ability to move and it allows me to put things in and out (like my inoculation loop) easily rather than having to open up the lid and allow more contaminants to flow in.

God, I'm jealous. I've been trying hard to find a decent priced second hand laminar flow hood but I can't find any in Australia and I can't afford to fork out $4000 for a new one. I cooked some grain today and I have to use my glove box tomorrow to knock up my grain. It does the job but glove boxes are a pain in the arse.

Where did you get your flow hood from and how much did it cost, Punkin? Mushroombloke, what kind of commercial operation do you want to run?

Perlite and vermiculite won't catch on fire. I've put vermiculite in the oven plenty of times to sterlise it for use in mycology. Vermiculite is also used for fire insulation and perlite is volcanic glass so it won't be burning your house down. Furthermore, as they are minerals then they should not really harbour contaminants, however, I like to be on the safe side and kill off any mold spores or other stuff that might have landed on them if they have been sitting around in the shed.

The All American is a tank. It looks like something you'd find in a Pfizer lab or something. It has less parts so it will last for a very long time. It'll out live me. Paying extra for it was a good investment.

Yeah, the 16th sounds good to me also. I remember someone else saying that he could not make it on the 9th but by the looks of it the 16th seems like a safe bet. Could someone please tell me what 'the usual spot' is if South Perth is not reasonable. There is plenty of parking around there as there are multiple car parks and the ferry goes there from the city and there should be buses etc.

Check out the prices on these http://www.pressurecooker.com.au/about-us.asp I'd have to sell my first born child and a kidney to buy one = /

Any chance I could get in on this too or am I too late? = /

Do it, Mescalito. DO IT! I got raped when I bought my All American Pressure Cooker last year. Shipping cost $150 as I got a relative in the U.S. to forward it to me and individuals don't get discounts on shipping rates. Furthermore, the Aussie dollar was not too flash at the time. However, it's the best pressure cooker.

Okay. Could anyone come to an agreement on a good mix for the following? a) loph seeds and Pach seeds For example, 2 parts this, 1 part this and 3 parts this etc. I went and bought a bag of coarse sharp river sand today for $5 and I washed a batch and have it drying it the sun.

Haha who posts lophs on Ebay Australia? I wouldn't be surprised if the cops tried to buy it so they could bust his arse. A guy in the U.S. tried to sell his excess medical weed on Craigs List and the cops posed as buyers and took him down. He was lucky he didn't get mugged or worse.

Hey geezers, Does anyone know where I could get a decently priced laminar flow hood in Australia? I have searched online and find plenty of places overseas that have cheap flow hoods but shipping them here would require me to sell my first born child and some kidneys. I am sure they must have some places here that sell reconditioned second hand flow hoods from old labs etc but I can not find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

The cheapest price I found in Australia for the same one is $200 and that's without shipping. Shipping will cost you between $10 and $30 depending on the state that you're in. http://www.redbacktrading.com.au/index1.html Retailers in Australia are crying foul and they want the government to scrap the rule that allows us to get items that are under $1000 from overseas without paying tax. However, even if we were to pay 10% GST we still save a fortune. If you were to add GST on it you still would have saved yourself at least $80.

Yeah, on Saturday the 8th of January or Sunday the 9th of January is cool by me as most people work during the week. Why don't we make an official thread for this and see what dates suit people so we can get lots of people? I don't mind if we give or take a week or what ever. The South Perth foreshore has BBQ facilities. This site even says that they are free to use http://www.westernaustralia.com/en/Pages/Destination.aspx?n=South_Perth&pid=9004921 If you want to go to a pub afterwards or top up on booze supplies then there is the Windsor Hotel which is close by http://www.windsorhotel.com.au/ What normally happens at these meets? Does anyone trade cuttings or anything?

23-quart pressure cooker/canner holds 20 pint jars or 7 quart jars. However, if it is similar to my all American then you might be able to fit another couple lying down on their sides at the top of the cooker.

So, what would you think about sand from the Swan River around Guildford/Bassendean, Santiago?
-
I am sure it is simple but I did a search online and everyone seems to have their own special cactus mix and then there are arguments on what's good and what's not. It makes a cacti n00b like me kinda unsure as to what I should use.

So is this official now or not?

Hey, mate. Check out this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicinal_mushrooms You will find a list of mushrooms and their benefits etc. Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms by Paul Stamets is also a great book. It is very detailed and has all of the growth parameters etc for the various types of medicinal mushrooms. You can find it on Amazon for $30. http://www.amazon.com/Growing-Gourmet-Medicinal-Mushrooms-Stamets/dp/1580081754/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292498824&sr=8-1

Nah, it won't. Shiitake doesn't like coir and this is confirmed by the mycologist Marc Keith. You'll need to find some good hardwood substrates for shiitake. If you have any mills or anything near you then you should be able to get some bags of hardwood sawdust. Make sure you know exactly what's in the sawdust because you don't want to end up with a mixture that will mess up your attempt.

:'( I can not escape from this song.

Jars are great, man. If you want to fruit then spawn the grain to coir or something. This is a great and very simple tek http://www.shroomery.org/10858/How-to-do-Coir Go to Bunnings and get yourself a white plastic bucket and lid from the storage section. It'll cost you about $10 for the bucket. Go to the garden section and get a brick of coir which is about $2.50. Get yourself some vermiculite if you don't have any. Small bags are kinda pricey and if you go to a hydroponics shop then you'll be able to get a massive bag for about $40 or so. This will last for a long time. If you don't want to make a monotub then you can use the above tek to make trays. Buy yourself some lasagna trays from Woolies or something. You can also use dark plastic trays if you have some in your kitchen. Then what you do is make a thin layer of your coir/verm mix on the bottom, then you sprinkle a layer of grain. Repeat the process until you reach the top of the dish and then cover it with aluminium foil. Poke about 6 holes in the foil and leave them in a dark place for about two weeks and once the mycelium has covered the top then you can put them into a fruiting chamber. You could always try using oven bags too.
-
Why don't you use jars instead?
-
Just buy some mycobags yo! It'll save you lots of hassle. Filterdiscs are also well wikkid.

South Perth yo! That way it makes it easier for people who are coming from other directions. All roads lead to Rome.
