    how fast can you type?

I forget, man. It's well worth the investment though. It beats dealing with pain and then having to deal with permanent injury, surgery for carpel tunnel syndrome etc. The keyboards can be bought cheaply enough but the Evoluent mice can be pretty pricey. There are different models though and you can get them so much cheaper if you order them online from the United States. Don't bother buying that mouse locally. I got mine from Ebay. I own two of those keyboards and a few of those mice. I use them at home and at work. If your workplace won't buy you an ergonomic keyboard then buy your own gear and claim it on tax. It also means you can take it to future places of employment. If you're studying you could probably do the same.

I use one of these bad boys. It's great for getting rid of RSI. It would also stop people from using my workspace/computer at previous workplaces. They'd try using the keyboard and then shout obscenities and rage quit because it was too hard for them to use. It was funny to watch. I also use Evoluent vertical mice (as seen below) and this would add to the rage. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/_base_v1/products/natural-ergonomic-keyboard-4000/mk_nek4000_large.jpg http://www.evoluent.com/vm3_med.jpg

    how fast can you type?

I've used computers since I can remember so I had plenty of practice. I wish I could've used a keyboard when doing tests and exams throughout my school life because I would've been able to use my time a lot better since my penmanship is not so good and I get a sore wrist. Another thing that was bullshit was when teachers used to make us write a hand written draft of an essay before submitting a typed copy so they knew we weren't copying or submitting someone else's work. WTF!

    how fast can you type?

I had a dickhead teacher who would make me re-do typing tests because he said I was doing it wrong, even though I beat everyone else who was doing the exercise. Apparently my hands were in the wrong place. I also had a university lecturer who'd come and spy on my laptop screen during classes because I'd be typing fast as fuck on my keyboard taking notes. My penmanship is terrible but I can touch type really well. I would not have had to do this if he put the fucking information online but he refused to do it because he said students should be coming to class. The university also likes advertising that is has all of this modern lecture recording equipment but none of my lecturers ever used it.

    how fast can you type?

I got 125.33 words per minute and 100% accuracy. I was trying to take a selective screenshot but since upgrading I'm not sure where OSX is saving the image. Once I get over my migraine I will post the screenshot.

    Home Made Propagation Box

Thanks for your replies. I went to Bunnings to check out what they had and I ended up finding some transparent storage boxes to use as a propagation chamber. The choice was limited when it came to large boxes that were transparent but if I need more room then I can connect the two together. I'm wondering what I should do about drainage and humidity. I'm not sure if I should drill a couple of tiny holes in the bottom of one and put some perlite in or maybe a small container of water so that the humidity stays high when I am not around to mist.

    The Australian "ODD RADAR" page?

You could always email the bureau of meteorology. Otherwise I think you would get your answer here: http://www.reddit.com/r/askscience However, if we're gonna get all conspiracy theory on this then I'm gonna blame the Jews!!!!

Drowning Scale Insects - Anyone Tried It?

Yeah, I was dealing with it earlier in the year but then I went overseas for a number of months and when I got back my cacti and some succulents got owned. I'm thinking it may just be better to throw them all away and start again. Maybe I could save the cleanish tips of some trichs which would be easier to clean and take care of. I also have some seedlings growing inside that I can use to start from scratch with. I guess I don't want to jeopardise them by having scale around either, especially since some are caespitosa lophs.

How much do you guys want for your pereskopsis?
  16. So, I updated my first post to include a list of places where we can get supplies. I am not sure if it should have its own thread or something. Please feel free to suggest more links, information or edits that may be required or be helpful. GoOnThen, I look forward to it.
  17. Hi, guys. Is anyone here into micropropagation? I'm interested in starting but wanted to see if anyone could provide me with any hints or tips about where to start or get supplies etc. Below are some of the kits that I found whilst searching Google. http://www.texashydr...?productid=2414 http://www.hometissueculture.org/ http://www.kitchencu...it.com/kits.htm So, I've made a list of places for tissue culture supplies to make things easier for us. This list can also be used for mycology. It is like an updated and edited version of the mycology supply thread I made ages ago. Plant Tissue Culture Supplies - http://www.austratec.com.au/ Lab Gear - http://www.wiltronics.com.au/ Lab Gear - www.labtek.com.au Lab Gear - http://www.livingstone.com.au/ Lab/Myco Gear- This place sells agar, parafilm and other useful tissue culture supplies. The synthetic filter discs are very handy as well as the breathable foam plugs for making clean media etc - www.mycosupply.com Cheap isopropyl alcohol and some other chemicals - http://www.altronics.com.au/ Mason Jars - This place sells proper mason jars. The synthetic filter discs from Mycosupply fit these jars perfectly which allows for contaminant free gas exchange. However, you could cut the discs up to make your own filter discs of various size for your own lids - http://www.redbacktrading.com.au/ Jars - http://www.plasdene.com.au/ Syringes - This is a Perth feed store that sells syringes in bulk which helps save money. It might sell some other handy equipment but I have not checked yet - http://www.bio-john.com.au/ Cheapest Pressure Cookers - Amazon.com

How Many Leaves Should Caapi Cutting Have?

Thanks. I might trim the two leaves that haven't been trimmed yet. I hope this thing works.
  19. Hi I thought I'd try to make a cutting from an almost severed piece of B. Caapi. However, I am unsure how many leaves I should leave on it and whether I should cut the leaves in half to reduce perspiration. The cutting currently has 4 leaves. Two of them have been cut in half and the other two are in their original state. The cutting it in a humidity dome and has a fluoro grow light shining on it. Can anyone tell me if I should cut any leaves off or trim them?

Will anyone be bringing pereskopsis? I need to obtain some so I can try my hand at grafting.
  21. I've done agar work and I still have some blue oyster mushroom petri dishes that I made from tissue samples. I have the sterile technique down pat because of the mycology work that I've done. I have bleach, isopropyl alcohol, an alcohol burner etc. I also had to make my own sterile water and sterilise my instruments in a pressure cooker. The kit I have also has some long forceps and other things such as a scalpel that uses disposable blades. The kit looks as if it was made for something else originally but was also good enough to use for mycology. I have a glove box that I made but it could be bigger. It's a pain in the arse to work in whilst doing agar work. I thought using a tunnel that isn't sealed off better would make doing agar work worthless due to contaminants. I bought my gear from http://www.wiltronics.com.au/ which has an awesome selection of science products. The agar I got from a proper myco shop so it was lab grade. I need to learn learn about using the right hormones etc that apply to micropropagation and the individual plants. I'll see if I can find a course in W.A. Thanks for the link to the micropropagation supply shop. I'm sure that will come in handy.
  22. How did you get started and where do you get your supplies from? I already have a pressure cooker and some other things that would come in handy for micropropagation such as a dissection type kit for taking tissue samples from mushrooms. I also have petri dishes and some other bits and pieces. A kit can be preferred for a beginner but sometimes you end up paying more as a "lazy man tax". From what I've seen online some people use homemade glove boxes to keep things sterile but they can be inconvenient to work with and I am not sure how effective they will be for the hobby. I'd like to get my hands on a laminar flow hood but it seems to be a lot harder to get my hands on a small, well priced flow hood, especially in W.A. HELP ME, DARKLIGHT!!! =P Regarding the location of the thread, I was tossing up between Ethnobotany and Sustainable Technologies.

    what'z ya street name?

This thread reminds me of a guy from my highschool. He thought he was such a thug (he idolised Eminem) and his name was Fatmir. One day someone from school gave him the nickname papsmir which was pretty funny but it got better. His nickname eventually evolved into "cunt scrape". I'd normally feel bad for someone in this situation but he was a cunt who would pick on others, especially the quiet nerds, so he totally deserved it. I'm yet to come across anyone who has a worse nickname.
