Well, their season has only 2 forays left for the year. Seems to me that they jumped the gun a bit; surely there could be some fruitful jaunts in June and July? I'll try to go to their workshop day at Sydney Uni though. I think there was a psilocybe talk last year. Lane Cove bushland is beautiful. I read Ray's little monograph of the fungi of that area in Lane Cove library and spent some serious time there last year, but never found much of interest. Certainly nothing like the beauties you've photographed, Undergrounder. (By the way, that's quite a contrast in avatars between SAB and the shroomery, you got there ) Perhaps we could get a SAB Fungal Studies group together for some forays? We could go to some of the SFSG's locations and others that some of us may know. We could bring some nibblies and beers for after... Who's interested?

I've always wondered about TM's childhood and parents... I wonder if Dennis writes as well as his brother. I read True Hallucinations not too long ago and it's a lot of fun.

Some serious spines on those pach seedlings. Nice stuff Taozen. I dare say Guatemala would be quite friendly to many plants of ethnobotanical interest.

Easter-shmeester. Happy Bicycle Day!

There were pictures, alright. Incredible pictures of an insanity collection. -

Thanks WoodDragon. Great pdf. I think I might bonsai me a Boswellia, should I ever get a hold of some seeds. I don't know if it's simply the power of suggestion, but those guys really do make me think of the arid East African desert. And planthelper, there are actually quite a lot of birches in Sydney. The catch is that you need to do some pretty serious watering and sun protection for the first few years. I'm thinking of planting four or five above some sort of subterranean open wicking garden bed (like the one on page 6 of this document). There are also the himalayan birches, which are more tolerant of Sydney heat and dryness.

Thanks guys. The reason I suspected that it might be is that I've heard that there is a catha tree in the vicinity of this unknown bush. The serrated leaves and the red in the branches made me conclude that it might just be... I'll have to go back and do some more hunting, I suppose!

I know pretty much nothing about this species. I have only ever seen little saplings. Is this a C. edulis? Spotted during a nice afternoon walk in a city public garden.

WoodDragon, we envy you your ability to grow cold-lovers. I wish I could effortlessly set up a nice birch grove in my backyard. And gooseberries. And currants.

I just found a large family of S. granulatus in Thornleigh! Never seen them in Sydney before, and there was not a pine for miles. There was an elm nearby; don't know if those two have a myco-love thing going on. Nearby there was a small bunch of Cortinarius sp. Maybe archeri. Cute little buggers. (Sorry. Didn't have camera with me.) That is all.

Mt.B, that second pin is a little cutie! Nice photos.

Applesnail, as it happens, I ordered myself a Bo Tree this week. Should arrive soon! And Muskrat, thanks for the tip about the US ebay vendor. Have you imported this species from overseas before? The sacra species aren't on the AQIS list of permitted Boswellia species, for what it's worth... Tripsis, if I get any B. sacra seeds, I'll let you know (you'll probably have more luck than I). -

This sounds like a lot of fun. I want to come but I'd feel too guilty leaving wife with kids for a couple of days. (Am I correct in presuming it wouldn't be a very good idea to bring children?)

I've got some plates with cultures on them, currently stored in the fridge. I've got too many and want to send them out to people. What are the chances of a culture surviving domestic postage conditions? Is this common practice? Cheers guys. -M

How long's the work going to last? If it's a relatively short stint, I personally wouldn't bother with anything other than getting an ABN and putting a fraction aside for tax. My dad's been a self-employed painter for over 25 years and only gets insurance on the odd occasions when the client demands it. GST is only applicable if you're making over $75,000 p.a., though if you're charging it, you will probably owe it. There may be some licensing issues, but they usually only apply if you're advertising your services. Maybe you can offset some of the earnings in your rent? That way you'd be up for less tax. Have you experience working as a gardener/landscaper?

4 metres off the ground?! That would be something! You'd need a crane to clip a bit of basil for your evening pasta! Nah, I putting in two that are 4 metres long and 1 metre wide and ~50cm deep. And two more that are 3 metres long. We considered corrugated sheets too, but decided to go for broke and make them out of old hardwood railway sleepers. Nice and solid looking that way.

I ain't got nothing special at the moment, NSF. Some L. edodes. Some P. ostreatus. Can't do much myco-play at the moment because I'm planting a million trees and putting in four 4 metre raised garden beds in my backyard.

Nice photos, Brero. Where in the world are these?

Wow, you guys are a nice bunch. Now my interest really is aroused. Where will this all be happening? O State Park way somewhere? How many nights?
