Yeah, I just read through the mycotopia thread. Those people are peculiar. In fact, Anne Halonium and consorts with their odd, "enthusiastic" ADD demeanor, I think, might be the proof that quick grown grafted lophs are punchy. Thanks for the tip, sclaws.

So the Peres is unrooted when you make the graft? And what's with the gloves? Is this something one does in a glove box or something? I'd love some more info on this, please!
-
Weird indeed. The super-glue grafting idea is interesting, though. Anyone else doing this with small scions?

Your dad keeps his shroom patches from you? What a cheapskate! Also, I know you were kidding, but I would like to make it clear one again that this is not a big, group "shroom raid". This is a good ol' fashioned fungal foray, for amateur mycologists interested in all fungal life, and no illegal acts will be supported/endorsed. It's looking like the Berowra area is where we're headed. Tripsis' spot sounds promising. And the good news is that there seems to be a little bit o' rain early next week, so the 28th may be our day after all. Yee haw!

I've been thinking of joining for a few years now, but never get around to it. I wonder what sort of crowd it is. www.sydneyfungalstudies.org.au

I guess we do. Hurrah!

You're not so bad yourself, dworx.

Psychedelic can be a diverse range of things, my friend.

If you're willing to spread your wings, so to speak, and move to psychedelic music outside of the goa/trance/psy/electronic beats idiom, I highly recommend the following: - Stars of the Lid (Just recently discovered them; they're a contemporary ambient-drone sort of band. Incredible!) - Balmorhea (Contemporary ambient-ish band similar to the above, but less droning.) - Olafur Arnalds (Contemporary Icelandic composer with minimalist-classical sound, but with an electronic edge.) - Klaus Schulze (German Krautrock from the 70's and 80's: minimalist electro psychedelia old skool style!) - Popol Vuh (German Krautrock from the 70's-80's. The soundtrack to Herzog's "Heart of Glass" was made for (at times intense) tripping.) - Morton Feldman (American 20th century composer. If you haven't tripped to his "Rothko Chapel", you've never really tripped at all. As close to God as you'll get.) - Oregon and Paul Winter Consort (70's world-jazz bands. A million cultures and influences all in one song 30 years before Sphongle's "Divine Moments of Truth".) - Ghazal ("The Rain" is the best album. Minimalist classical Indian music with a distinct Persian influence. Beautiful and heart-stirring stuff.) Good thread, by the way!

Here's a Cortinarius sp. that I found in Sydney last week. It's old and very dry, and as such the cap has turned brown/caramel but the stipe remains purplish-white. It's clear that, to the untrained eye (or anyone not bothering to look at spore colour), this may look like a bluing sub.
-
I'd pay to see that. Do it!

Yes, yes. Another annoying post appealing to folk for Pereskiopsis cuttings. (After seeing Philocacti's post on his grafted loph, I've been inspired to give grafting a go.) I'm happy to send good ol' fashioned cash. I have very little to trade, I'm afraid. I might be able to get a hold of a spore print of interest to those with a microscope, or a few random seeds (Mimosa hostilis, Datura stramonium, Ocimum tenuiflorum, among others). Lemme know, and thanks!

I got a fungal foray thread going here, for any interested parties.

Ah nuts. Sorry 'bout my stupidity; I didn't notice the subtitle. And 2 years is incredible. That guy is huge! How old was it at the time of the grafting? Would a loph grafted onto a peres grow quicker than on a trich? Inspiring stuff. Prior to this thread I've not been too interested in grafting, but now I'm gonna have a go when summer comes around again. Thanks again.

Awesome! Well done, and thanks. What's the time span?

Distracted is right. And subs, being woodlovers, are known to occasionally have paralysing effects. As far as I've read, there's no unanimous theory for this phenomena. One suggestion is high baeocystin levels. There's mould on numerous things you'll eat today (bread, fruit, rice, cheese, nuts etc; all in varying degrees), and it generally doesn't lead to paralysis. If anything, it's usually nausea and gastro that follow the consumption of large amounts of mould.

No shit, Tripsis. True story! What's more, a few weeks ago I found a small patch of Lactarius deliciosus under a Scott's pine in a suburban front yard in Frenchs Forest! I'll go back and get photos soon. Incredible! And Zen, I think you're right. The fruit above is indeed a bit too red/orange for a Suillus granulatus/luteus.

Paralising white mould?! What the hell is that?!

Dark cupboard should be fine... I've never tried the freezer. I'd be too worried about moisture from condensation.

Ah, nuts. I gotta work this Saturday. Besides, it's looking a little dry this week to make it worthwhile, I think... How about the 21st of May, rain, hail or shine? If a bunch of you are up for it, I'll start a new thread advertising the whole thing to other members. Also, I think we should make it clear that this won't be a big group sub hunt, but a little foray in which we will look at various fungal species, for photographic and identification purposes. Agreed?

Yeah, what she said ^^^

I just gave away a jar of dried slipperies the other day. 1. Dry until cracker dry (drier/oven under 75 degrees/desiccant chamber). 2. Use old jar with air-tight lid (you know that white gummy stuff on the inside of the lid?). 3. Fill as full as you can (use smaller jar if you don't have much). 4. Throw in some desiccant and anti-oxygen pouches (Spotlight has them pretty cheap, as do numerous vendors on ebay). 5. Close that puppy up.

Thanks for that link, Amazonian. Holymountain, any news on that little patch you started last year?

Here's my new little loph (thanks Tripsis!). My wife collects cute little ceramics from the 40's and 50's and I begged this one out of her. Perfect compliment to the loph shape, no? Drilled a lot of holes in the bottom and gave it a few little Fimo feet for easy drainage.
