  2. I only know English, so little contest there in the cases that I think in words. That only happens when I'm really trying to think something (with some oomph!) otherwise I will think in images, either still or flicking through many in sequence (kinda like a flip-book), impulses of emotion. On occasion I will think in a nonsense language, some form of gibberish, that somehow conveys the thoughts that I intended. That is a strange feeling though, don't know why it happens or how I understand it. Perhaps just on a whim. My girlfriend, right now, is speaking in a mesh of gibberish and English as she reads from a book on international organisations. Not really sure what to make of that... When asked for some input she says that she thinks in a mix of Spanish, English, and gibberish. She sometimes thinks in a made up version of German too apparently. Just makes up words that she doesn't know.

    my reptile pals

I believe Komodos are only native to some Indonesian islands, hardly the area that would be inhabited by hunting lions. But yeah a big monitor... Scary. Just being close to the 1-1.5m long ones that are about gives me a bit of a rush. I wonder if you even can train a dragon? (Heh, reference) Baby chameleons are adorable! And most of the other reptiles are very cute too. Thanks for sharing, I wish I lived around there now.

    Proper English

Mmmm, I don't think I've changed my dictionaries actually. And yeah I'd be using British English if I were to hope spellcheck picked up on my errors. Good thing I make few, and have the internet for the rest :D Thanks for the clarification though BZ

    Proper English

I'm going to start this thread off with just a few of things initially. A couple of things from The Oatmeal, and assorted others. Additions and changes will be made by edits to the main post. I'm not sure if there is a cap on volume of text in a post, so I will add two (turns out two meant four) posts after this simply stating "reserved" in case this actually gets big. Okay, let's (let us) get started then! Do whatever the fuck you want: Lose, Loose Lose is the opposite of win. Loose means "not tight". They're, Their, There They're is a contraction for "they are". Their is possessive, meaning it owns something. There refers to a location or idea. (It can also refer to something more abstract (There are many reasons...)) Your, You're Your is possessive (like their) You're is a contraction of "you are" (like they're) Its, It's Its is possessive (like your and their) It's is a contraction of "it is" (like they're and you're) Definitely; there is no "a" in definitely. If you put an "a" in definitely you're definitely an A-hole. Effect, Affect Most of the time, "effect" is a noun and "affect" is a verb. If unsure, try substituting a different verb. Weather, Whether Weather refers to, sunshine, rain, snow, typhoons etc. Whether is used in this manner; Correct usage of this word determines whether I will kick you. A lot. A lot is never one word. You don't write alittle, apig, or atelevision; so don't write alot! Allot is a verb that means "to give for a specific purpose" Then, Than Then is used for time. (I killed a guy, then threw him off a bridge.) Than is used for comparison. (That guy was harder to kill than a grizzly bear.) This link covers that area in a more easy to read manner, if you still don't get it. Would've is the contraction of "would have" there is no reason to use the words "would of" together. Ever. Two, To, Too Two is a number. To is generally used as a preposition. Too means "also" and is generally used at the end of a sentence. Too may also be used to indicate excessive amounts of a quality. (That is too expensive for me) MUCH more to be added. Posting this so there is something up while I write more. Feel free to post something you think should be added, and I will insert it in. I will also give this some semblance of an ordered format when there is enough content for it to matter.

Why doesn't Learnt register as a word then? Seems odd to me.

I generally use learned. Past tense of learn? Don't see a reason for learnt to exist. It shows up as wrong in the spellcheck.
  8. I disagree. I believe that is true for us, but that there may be beings who take more than one 'slot' in time. On this matter, I wouldn't say that our minds are too simple, but that our sensory organs are not equipped for such things. Just like trying to see the infra-red, or ultra-violet spectrums (spectra?) of light, our eyes are not equipped to see time. As well as that, we are 3-dimensional creatures, it's obvious that there's no way a fourth dimension will be perceivable to the naked senses. How do you know that time would be perceived with the eyes? I think we'd need another organ, something vastly complex, to be able to do that. We just use eyes because they seem logical, because we use them to "see" the three dimensions we have. Maybe you taste time? Haha. Imagine a two dimensional creature, living happily with just a length and a height, then trying to get them to see a 3D shape. Make them see the depth in the world. How would you go about it? Do you think they'd be capable?

The Secret Life of Chaos, Tonight 8:30 on SBS

I saw the ads for this. Looking forward to it a great deal.
  10. I had a 20 minute conversation with a 9 year old at the park the other day, about our dogs. She was at the park by herself, I was under the impression that she lived next door, and that her mum was like, shouting distance away, but it was refreshing to not be looked at askance for spending more time than would take to humor her in actual conversation. We talked about our dogs Though off topic, it's slightly relevant to some of what has been discussed earlier.

    Limitless, a movie about DMT!!

Having now watched the movie, it seemed to me to be much more like stimulant use. Even keeping DMT in mind and trying to fit it around aspects of that drug, it didn't fit. I agree. I think it's a long stretch for me to think of this as DMT - Hell I think speed even fits it better, though the come down is a mite harder with this NZT stuff Teehee. "Oh, what do you do for a living?" "I'm in the Navy" "Bleargh!"

    Adam & Eve.

I already don't hold with some ideas of modern physics, but force (any amount of force) + infinite time = infinite work done, would mean everything comes back (the time taken might just be uncomprehendably high). Even if protons decay, the lighter particles still have mass, they would eventually coalesce (in my opinion). Correct My imagination tells me that would be unbelievably amazing, and that's an obvious underestimation. It would be a shame for something that cool to never come about. Another form of dark matter?

    Limitless, a movie about DMT!!

Movies have been considered art for quite some time, and even if they hadn't been, these days if you say something is art, then it is. Is "hallucinogen" a property only expressed by DMT? I didn't realise it was so specific... I'm sure there are others, but perhaps you've heard of a little friend called aya? Or even salvia, depending. Stop being so opinionated and try to listen to what people are saying to you. Obviously it can be interpreted differently by different people or you wouldn't anyone disagreeing with you. From what I have seen of it that does seem to be the case, but I reserve my judgement on the movie and the drug involved til I have seen it. Which I will do tomorrow, critically. So far people appear to have been rather reasonable and rational and have been met with irrational anger and frustration. I'm not sure if this is because of something personal, but I think it unwarranted.

    Adam & Eve.

If time is infinite then it is an inevitability is it not? Stars will turn to dust, but even dust exerts gravity. A very long time the universe may go on for, but forever? No. Gravity will pull it all back together one day.

    Limitless, a movie about DMT!!

That was a review of the trailer, not the movie. It only gives a better idea of the movie in that i summarises the plot a little. You'd be better off watching the trailer for the thing.

    Investment

You live like, 1 suburb away from me. Tarragindi here. I would do as Torsten recommends. A nice place to fall back on is better (imo) than some shiny rocks to sell later.

    Adam & Eve.

I find it interesting that science based atheists scorn religions reliance on "faith" for creation stories, whereas we believe in evolution, a concept that has turned many scientists to religion based on the sheer improbability of life having formed in the first place. It has been likened to the entire solar system being filled with blind people, each blind person shuffling a Rubik's cube randomly, and every one of them coming to the solution at the same time. This may interest some of you. I do happen to believe in the cycle of the "big bang" though. Seeing as everything exerts gravity, wouldn't it all end up at a central point again given enough time? (a LONG time) Then it can go boom - expand again, and born anew comes the universe. I think it's pretty arrogant/presumptuous to assume we're the centre of anything, or that this is the first incarnation of the universe. I do like reading these threads though, to see what opinions are held by others. It's pretty apparent that the logical conclusion is that the egg came first. Edit: God told me she likes atheists best

    Hi there

Hi Hoot! I look forward to reading this thread in full, but for now, welcome, and excellent tl;dr.
  19. You wouldn't download a bear. I like a quote that goes something along the lines of: Piracy isn't stealing. If you pirated a real thing someone would come out of their house in the morning to find that their car has been stolen - but it's still there! As a response to the media messages that piracy is stealing. Goddamn money hungry bastards. Edit: Good clip Rab.

    Psychedelic Synesthetic Gaming

Free download?! Going to play asap. Looks amazing. Edit: Humm I think its specs are higher than I have (that was a suprise) but it's pretty laggy, delayed motion etc.
  23. This saddens me. Often on the bus or in a public place when I see a child I am tempted to play with them (or speak if on the bus) just because they're masters at making people smile. If they're playing games or having a conversation then I will watch them, but if the parents are visibly uncomfortable I will back off. Puts a dent on the smile though. As do I. Nor do I. I believe children pick up on whether you're acting genuine or not. If you're smiling and talking to them but thinking "god just shut up you stupid kid" they'll not like you, but if you're actually interested and don't treat them like a baby then they're happy to chat.

    Anime and Anime goodness

I will definitely be back here to see get some ideas for what to watch. Currently I'm watching an anime series called Noein. So far pretty good. Better than stuff like death note at least. I hate watching dubbed versions of something if I can simply get a subbed version instead though. Most dubs are awful too Going to watch Ghost in the Shell after Noein. Have both of them and I remember being fascinated by it years ago, it was on SBS I think, but I didn't understand it at the time.
  25. If you can't be fucked getting a background stop jumping up with assumptions. It's your choice, learn the subject matter or keep making a fool of yourself. You'd probably want to read through said quoted posts. You'll find that you jumped the gun (again) and you are in error. I'd explain it to you, but you'll just jump the gun again. Don't mention anything about me being a paedophile actually. If there was an olympic medal for making assumptions and not reading the facts, you would be in the running for gold. Past tense, as in, before but not now, I feared I might be. I did not fantasize over children even during that phase, and that phase is some way behind me. I didn't have to show anyone how smart with words I am until you blundered in and made a mess of every argument you've made. And here is the medal winner! You're a gold medalist now! Why do you think you had to specify that thinking is deliberate thought? I'll tell you. Because not all of it is. Sure that running commentary in your head when you think to yourself is deliberate, but what of all the thoughts unbidden? Tell me you've never thought of anything except with explicit intent. I'm done with you Dworx. You take up more of my time than you are worthy of (none).
