I can't believe I missed your tips today, I was on the forum today too. I'm going to have to watch this thread for sure. It could have made a nice allup with the price metal bender paid. Good work! I know where I'll be looking on Saturday mornings from now on.

Do you mean the photo in your Avatar? I'd say it's time to lose the ears. Sorry for the sarcasm but I'm pissed and can't see any pics or attachments on your post.

GMO alert: U.S. attempting global censorship of GMO food labeling
Magicdirt replied to bℓσωηG's topic in Chill Space
The only way to avoid eating GMO is going to be by growing your own veges and using Heirloom seeds. GMO is everywhere already, the genie is out of the bottle. The scientists like to tell us how safe and great it is for mankind but they don't like to mention the brazil nut debacle. They focus only on profits and any problems are trivialized and swept under the carpet. They say we'll need it to feed the world, but the world has always had surplus stores of grain and millions died from starvation, why would anything change ? Godforsaken Manmade Organism -
Can anyone tell me if commercial cactii potting mixes are reliable and if so any particular brands or any to avoid? Is it better to mix your own ? Does anyone have any recipies for their own mix ? I intend to be growing Trichs ond lophs at first. I have a lot Aloes and they seem to do OK in potting mix with added rock dust and sand. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help everyone, it confirms what I was thinking. I don't trust a lot or regular potting mixes for general use either, I prefer to mix my own. Much appreciated, thanks again.

do dreams involve some external feed?
Magicdirt replied to ThunderIdeal's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
It's hard to say that dreams always originate in the mind of the dreamer. When my missus was working early mornings (3am start) i'd get up to see her off, do some Qi gong and go back to bed. I had some of the most bizzare dreams in my life at the time. 2 of the dreams were shared dreams between myself and my girls' younger brother. He was able to describe the most intricate details of the dream to me and I could to him as well. It was like a connection relived from a past life in ancient Egypt. Some dreams seem to originate from somewhere else, who knows where it is ? -
A. muscaria without doubt. They gave me a sickly feeling and a bad experience. Most people don't make a habit out of them, so a low dose can't hurt. Not the best trip but if there's nothing else it can't hurt to try. Nice pics too.

4 horses each - you must of had a good boss, my missus had to look after a full barn by herself anywhere from 10-16 boxes and if anyone was running late she was expected to help them out as well. Sundays were always different everyone got stuck in and helped each other and she normally got home an hour or so early (in the morning) but she had to go back for the other half of the shift in the arvo. Anyway you've had some good results with your tips, we did too on the weeks you've posted tips for, Kudos to you. I'll be following this thread a lot closer now I know it's here. We've been researching thoroughbreds bloodlines for a while and the same old campaigners seem to show up in the bloodlines, there's a few notable exceptions but I couple this with recent form and have had some good results. I did pick the Melbourne cup winner (shocking)on form alone, but the cup seems to break most of the rules of succesfull punting and is a bit of a guess anyway. I have written a punters computer that runs on Open Office (Excell cannot handle the rounding functions accurately) It allows you to back up to 19 horses in one race and still make a profit But in practice 3 horses backed turns a good profit. If there's any interest I might offer it for a trade.

Worm farms are a great addition any garden. Most people whove tried it swear by it. I have 3 bathtubs full of worms and a conventional plastic box type worm farm. I also have a normal compost heap as well. I sprinkle rock dust on my worm farms every now and then to ensure the compost has a complete balance of all the trace elements. Apparently worms need grit in their diet to process thier food properly so the rock dust helps there too. I crank out a lot of castings every year and I struggle to keep the food up to them. If a potted plant ever gets sick I plant it in a worm farm and magically it recovers and thrives like never before, worms produce a bacteria dominated compost and root rot type of fungi don't seem to survive in the worm farm. I gave my Mum a worm farm called "The Swag" and it produces more compost than a bathtub worm farm in the same amount of time. It is much smaller, more efficient and very easy to harvest the castings. She has it in her laundry and it doesn't smell. I'll stick to keeping mine outside. The Swag in Australia and in the U.S. they have one called "The Worm Inn" I don't dig my gardens anymore I just put down a layer of castings about 3 inches deep and plant into that, then I cover that lightly with cheap potting mix -sans fertiliser (sunlight degrades the castings and bakes it to a crust, the potting mix prevents this) . I give my plants a bit of seasol every now and then, and I never need any fertilisers. I put a lot of paper (paper towels) in my worm farms to add carbon and the worms seem to breed in the paper. They say not to feed them onions or citrus but I find worms breed in old rotting onions and eat the citrus once rotted. Worms love pumpkin and crushed up eggshells are a good addition as well. I even had a hydro system at my last place running off the juice coming out of the bottom of the bathtubs and I grew the best tasting veges I've ever had. One tomato plant lived for 3 years and produced an insane amount of fruit.

Various cacti & succulents from my collection
Magicdirt replied to mutant's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Excellent photography and an interesting collection. A rooftop seems like the perfect environment for cactii and succulents. I'm a newb and I was wondering what are the little brown things that look like little brains ? -
I've been lurking here for a while and now I can post I wanted to ask a question. My local nursery has a cactus that looks a lot like a San Pedro but it is labeled "Euphorbia" They had it sitting right next to a Lophophoria of some sort It is definetley a cactus and not a euphobia. Does any know if San pedros are commonly labeled incorrectly. A local hardware store also has a few interesting ones one was Tricocereus pasacana, could this be active ?

My salvia died as well, it had all the same symptoms as Atlas'. Mine wasn't overwatered either I think it had some fungal disease when I got it. I've read a bit about them lately and they are supposed to be hard to kill. Whenever I get a new plant I dunk it in a bordeaux mix and quarantine it for a few weeks. Some nurseries have poor hygeine and keep sick plants in close contact with healthy ones. If a plant is obviously sick I plant it in my worm farm (Bathtub) for a few weeks and that usually gets them back on track. I got it from a nursery in grafton just as law was changed and now they don't have them anymore which really sucks. Who runs this country anyway Fred Nile ? Sally come back to Pappa !

Thanks for the help The one labelled lophophora didn't look like any I've seen so I thought that was the wrong label as well or someones idea of a joke. I might have to go and take a few pics. Is the white sap an indication of active properties ?
