    Avian Flu & Tamiflu supply

It still seems possible to me that nature is just 'thinning the herd' Alfred Sauvy wrote a great book on the subject, see below. If this is a natural fate , then if we are strong we should not be concerned for our own fate. Alfred Sauvy. FERTILITY AND SURVIVAL. THE THREE FATES OF EXCESS AND MORTALITY. Animal excess mortality occurs in three ways: famine, epidemics, and violent death from the action of another species. Famine is the most logical effect of the environment’s resistance .It is a simple passive resistance .The environment refuses to yield anything more, therefore the quantity of substances taken from it by the species is enough to support only a certain number of individuals. Epidemic illness is an accidental event which may appear quite unrelated to this equilibrium of species versus environment. But epidemics spread more easily when the species has multiplied first because of the simple fact of number and density, and second because under-nourished individuals offer less resistance to the illness. Even more purely accidental these epidemics counter-balance the multiplication of the species and help to maintain the species in a certain zone. As for the violent death from the action of another species, this is an active resistance of the environment. EPIDEMICS. We are nowadays upset by a gentle epidemic of influenza, or by a surge of poliomyelitis which causes fifty deaths, and we may find it difficult to imagine the ravages caused by epidemics in the ‘natural’ epoch. Even with out putting too much trust in the death figures quoted by the chroniclers of the time, we never the less find death rates that are far higher than anything we have seen in contemporary times , including the years of war. During the black plaque of 1348 many regions and localities lost a third of their population. This evil, ‘ that can enrich Acheron in one day’ , was often called the plague though no doubt it was often, strictly speaking , many different things. The devastation was so intense that one wonders how the human race avoided total extinction. The fact is that epidemics, like fires, always died out in the end, when the population had thinned out and the survivors had become more or less immune to illness. But they also spread more rapidly inasmuch as the under-nourished population offered less resistance to them.

    Car Audio - Subwoofer Vibrations

By the sound of it your stereo is worth more than your car maybe the tack welds that hold the boot lid to its supporting frame may have vibrated loose , you must be generating alot of sound pressure (not sure if that's a word but you get the idea) in there. How's the sub mounted ? I would be suprised if the bumper would give of a high pitched squeek as it is plastic , sounds more like a metal vibration possibly a heat sheild on the cat convertor/muffler if it is at the rear or it may be just sound pressure escaping around the boot seal. Another comon source of rear rattles/squeeks can be the number plate , try taking the number plate off at home and see if this makes a difference. The best approach is a process of elimination , eliminate potential sources one by one and see if it can't be located. Even the tail lights vent stright from the boot so maybe it could be a loose tail light letting sound pressure escape ?

    Voluntary voting ?

I'm a big fan of compulsory voting as it stops alot of whinging about who is in power because everyone has had their say. I notice in the media today alot of talk of voluntary voting , this is how for example the USA system works. This in my opinion leaves the whole process open to be hijacked by lobby groups like the christian right has in America. So should Australia introduce volutary voting ?

    Voluntary voting ?

This is a classic example of the point I was trying to make. You see according to you El Duderino , your friend had no right to have her opinion heard. If you can bully a close friend into thinking they're opinion is worthless, then where does this leave our democracy ? Again , think your way or be bullied. My sister did the same thing as a young mother still at Uni , her heart was in the right place and that's all that matters to me. Society is made up of all types of people and it's a beautifull thing. Better because you , the educated one could have your voice heard with out all those pesky members of society raining on your parade ? BINGO !!! That is what i am affraid will happen and you've just proved that even in an open minded forum like this people will support such an idea of a ruling elite .This sort of idea may very well come from sort of Orwellian nightmare.

    Police Radar Detection

Simple , buy a cheap hand held GPS and mount it on the dash. Accurate and easy to read , the real problem here is spedometers don't need to go up to 220 KPH !!!! They should just go up to 120KPH then a red zone like the rest of the gauges in cars , with a speedo going to 220KPH 3km/ph can be the width of the needle !! So if the speedo only goes to 120kph the incraments become bigger and easier to read.
  14. I know i woofed a smoked jalepino down at work when they first arrived in the mail , WHOOOOOOO AHHHHHHH..........and i saw god.
  15. I was wondering when i heard the peice this morning on AM about the "hotness" of the chilli they used. The researcher they interviewed stated that the "hotness" of the chilli is produced by a chemical which name escapes me now , and it was this which produced the effects. He went on to say that 30g of fresh chilli is all that was needed , but would 30g of jelapino be give the same benifits as say 30g of a firey red hot birds eye ?

    Police Radar Detection

I take your point about grouping all P platers together , my mistake. But it is a sad but true fact that this group generally over estimates their driving ability. The amount of young people with less than two years driving experience roaring around in commodores thinking they are Mark Skaife is scary. You just can't be an expert with such a limited amount of experience , the reason you wear P plates is to let the rest of us know you are inexperienced. But this wasn't meant to be a P plate bashing session , i was just trying to drive home the point about speeding in towns. Agreed , power is a huge issue and the more power a car has the greater the need for proper maintinance is eg: tyres , brakes , suspension. Plus an ability to control a powerfull car in adverse conditions. There was an accident near here earlier this year where a L plate driver , driving a current model clubsport commodore with her car full of family members lost control on a flat , straight wet road and went head on into a truck , killing all five onboard. Experience was the issue here and power was the lesson.

    Police Radar Detection

Pissed or sober , if you hit a tree at 60kph chances are you'll be alright , hit the same tree at 160kph your f@#cked. It's not how pissed you are but how fast your going that kills. Compulsory roadworthy certificates should be submitted with your registration renewal every year. The age and condition of the average car in Australia is years behind Europe. This is not only a saftey issue , but modern cars don't have such a negative impact on the planet. Why is every one so keen to beat the speed cameras ? I do 1,000km a week to and from work . I get radared at least once a week , and i hardley ever get caught. If you travel faster than 60khm in a 60 zone your a dickhead , these zones exist to protect pedestrians and children.I don't have an issue if you want to open it up on the open roads (with in reason), between towns (padock roads) but people speeding in towns deserve to be fined and the fines should be higher than what they are. I hate to state the obvious (but my avatar does warn) wisdom comes with age , and i can't expect a P plate driver to grasp this concept .

    Voluntary voting ?

Look , as it is at the moment your only obligation is to turn up at a polling booth once every four or so years and have your name crossed off. The real question is : "What is to be gained by moving to voluntry voting ? " "Who will benifit from this move ?" do you really think this whole issue is so those who don't want to go to a polling booth and get croosed off can stay home ? Do you really think this is to benfit the stonners that just can't be shagged getting off the couch ? Come on , this push is comming from the right side of politics yet the left is banging the drum for them ? Why , obviously because they stand to benfit from voluntry voting. The point GO makes about funding to minority parties that gain a certain percentage is a good one , they stand to loose if voting is no longer compulsory. So ask your self this , "Who benefits from a change like this ?" NB: Just for the record i lean to the right and have no axe to grind with the fedral govt. I see this issue as bigger than both major parties , i see this issue as a basic issue of democracy .

    Bali bombed again.

Well they've done it again : http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/20051...10/s1472723.htm This spooks me as we were due to fly out to Bali yesterday , but my daughter has an ear infection and can't fly (goes in for the gromet operation Monday morning) . After all the drug dramas , bombings and the new threat of H1N5 it seems the poor people of Bali are the meat in the sandwich again and will be paying with their livlyhoods. My thoughts are with them all peace
