(ABC: Jason Rawlins) A Brisbane magistrate has put two company directors on good behaviour bonds and fined their business under laws introduced last year banning the sale of ice pipes and cannabis bongs. The court heard a Surfers Paradise business trading as 'Off Ya Tree' was raided within days of last year's amendments to the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act. Prosecutor Andrew Preston says Health Department officials seized hundreds of bong chambers, bong stems and cones. Company directors 49-year-old Dimos Koutsoumidis and 50-year-old Jayne Elizabeth Ford both pleaded guilty to displaying bong components in the first prosecution of its type in Queensland. They were placed on 12-month good behaviour bonds and their company fined $750. Their lawyer Kevin Kelso told the Court it had taken authorities almost seven months to work out which of the seized items were illegal. No convictions were recorded.

    Coffee and coffeine withdrawal

I drink five to six cups of coffee a day. I have noticed that instant seems to have a different effect on me than esspresso. I have also noticed that my motivation and productivity increase around the fourth cup mark any less and it feels like a weekend. Having said that i only drink one - two cups a day on the weekend with no noticable negative effects.
  4. Extraction of oils from plants doesn't sound to dangerous to me and from my experiences of Cambodia i doubt if there is much technology anywhere outside of Phenom Phen. I would imagine that 'cottage' industries like this or growing poppies for that matter are away that marginal existance can be sustained in very poor conditions.
  5. LOL .Seems we get our news from the same place.

    Political parties

The fact that it is compulsory to vote in Australia is a very important thing. If the election of our government is left up to what ever group can rally the most supporters as is the case in the US, then we could say we really do live with a government that doesn't represent the views of the majority.

    Political parties

I voted Democrat for the senate in the last election, but it seems not many others did. Possibly the 'Green' factor divided the votes, and sent the Democrats for a wilderness holiday. As for the shooters party , well as a shooter myself i give them very little time, I gave up my SSAA membership when the handgun buy back came around and really think they are a waste of time. The pro gun organisations have little clout (unlike in the USA) but at least they know what they stand for. It seems that the left and right sides of mainstream politics have little that makes them stand apart so any alternative would make a good start. Also it is worth pointing out that political parties get paid for each vote they get ,so by not voting for a major at least you are denyng them of some funds.

    Anyone into symphonies.

I saw the MSO on Wednesday night. NATHAN Don John of Austria: Overture TARTINI Cello Concerto DVORÁK Symphony No. 7 in D minor, Op Don John of Austria is a ballad opera in three acts by Isaac Nathan to a libretto by Jacob Levi Montefiore (1819-1885). It is the first opera to be written, composed and produced in Australia.

    Chestnuts

Can anyone tell me how to stop Chestnuts exploding when you roast them ? I tried pricking them but that didn't work, maybe they need to be soaked or the temp was to high ? Any suggestions would be great.

    Chestnuts

Thanks sina (apo?) i was wondering what were in those woks also but love the coffee idea, but I'm to miserable to waste coffee beans no matter how crap !! . The wok does work better than the oven. I did a few in the wok last night and they were great , so i put a heap in the oven. WOW you should see these go off when they explode !!! I had the kitchen covered in peices of chestnut, it really is quite scary as they were exploding as i was taking the tray out of the oven. I had only ever had them cooked by street vendors and had this romantic idea of roasting chestnuts by the fire on a rainy night, and it was not at all like that.

    puck's book club

    * Pillars of the Earth. *The art of war. Are two favorites that spring to mind. At the moment I'm reading plenty of trashy 'pulp fiction' types, nothing exceptional but it helps me to relax.

  20. Just a quick warning about the dangers of this. There was a case of some one been killed in one in SA a few years back. I can remember this as the guy that died was a friend of a friend and there was alot of discussion of it on this forum at the time. I think the moral of the story was make sure you all look out for each other and watch for the signs of the effects of too much heat on those around you.
  21. The Templeton Effect The Templeton Effect June 11th, 2006 by John Horgan, The Scientific Curmudgeon Right now, a dozen journalists—representing such influential media as The Washington Post, Reuters, Slate, The Guardian, BBC, NPR—are meeting in Cambridge, England, to ponder what is arguably the most consequential issue of our age, the relationship between science and religion. These opinion-makers are recipients of the Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Fellowship, which is funded by the Templeton Foundation. I participated in the first fellowship, in the summer of 2005, and I wrote an essay about the experience for the April 7 Chronicle of Higher Education, “The Templeton Foundation: A Skeptic’s Take.” I hope that the 2006 fellows will consider what I believe to be an important part of the science-religion story, which I call the Templeton effect. Through cash and other more subtle incentives, the Templeton Foundation amplifies the science-religion dialogue and nudges it in a particular direction, which favors religion in general and Christianity in particular. This is the Templeton effect. If people are more aware of the Templeton effect, it will diminish, and the dialogue fostered by Templeton funds will become more intellectually honest. That was why I described my first-hand observations of the Templeton effect (although I coined the phrase later) in my Chronicle essay. “Skeptic’s Take” can be found on edge.org, along with mostly favorable responses from infidels like Richard Dawkins and Dan Dennett and a piece in the London Times by the science writer Anjana Ahuja. The essay also provoked negative responses, notaby from Julia Vitullo-Martin, co-director of the fellowship and a journalist herself, and from several 2005 Templeton fellows. Vitullo-Martin’s letter was just published in the May 19 Chronicle; except for George Johnson, who spoke out on edge.org, the 2005 fellows have chosen not to publish their remarks. A few of the 2005 fellows privately suggested if you take the foundation’s money, it is rude and unethical to criticize it afterwards. Obviously, and, yes, self-servingly, I disagree. I think accepting the foundation’s money gives journalists an even greater responsibility to examine its role in the current debate about science and religion. The larger question is this: Should journalists, scientists and other scholars ever accept money from organizations whose goals they don’t share? If they do take the money, what are their ethical responsibilities thereafter? I raised these questions in an April 21 forum of the American Association of the Advancement of Science (the AAAS is, by the way, another ambivalent recipient of Templeton funds). I’ve decided to take the money, then bite the hand that feeds me. I realize this may not be the ideal route to moral purity or financial security. I'm still convinced they have an agenda to push.
  22. Templeton foundation is a christain think tank that rewards those who blur the line between science and religion , but if you had read ' The god delusion' you would already know this. Faith and religion belong in the humanities dept. not science , this is a slippery slope that the fundamentalist christians want to exploit so thet can teach creation in a science class. un poco loco ? Por favor , muy muy loco.
  23. Please tell me you are joking.
  24. Well , now i know who made that video. To be honest i had night mares and gagged at the thought of that clip for days after i saw it and i consider myself to be pretty hardened. In answer to your question about art or porn, it's defiantly not porn and i could not get aroused watching that kind of stuff. I was sent the URL via e-mail a few weeks ago and there was no doubt the sender was trying to get a shock response and it worked.
