    2010 Sub season

great shots, wish i had been carrying a camera around the last three weeks! 3 experiences hunting in two new places and one oldie but a goodie. its as if you think they might be there, there they will appear, first were great quality, and second two were just sheer abundance - no greedyiness just selective, would have made great photography! good luck and happy hunting.
  2. I have some loph, trich peruvianus and 1 pach seedling's growing indoors for the cooler victorian winter, they are under 2 18 volt fluro tubes and I have just noticed the corners of the seedling trays have just strted to develop a green tinge, mold? on them, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend what to do? fungicide? nothing? obviously have lots to learn!

    2010 Sub season

I swear by the veggie moon calender, for example the full moon was 28th this month, and next, this means from the 17th to the 25th was primo for crops that produce above ground and also a good time to take cuttings(I wonder if this also relates to cactus?), and their is a small window for root crops on the 1, 2 , 12 and 13, and just wondered if anyone had any confirmed beliefs on how this would effect mushrooms, thanks meanies i reckon it would have to too. but i wonder when in the cycle could be potentially best given the right conditions.

Roger that dried and lemon cured tea potentiates effects. anyone got any theories about lunar cycle links?

    2010 Sub season

I had a dream last night about picking subs, funny that it happened on the night of the full moon, I've been (trying to )planting all my veggies by a moon calender and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how the lunar cycles effect the fungi kingdom? Drove through a location on monday that had been known to produce subs under a big old tree, and sure enough after the heavy rains of saturday about 10 subs were there among others, usually there is a coral fungi there too but this time 4 or 5 different varietys, When told to ingest the said subs the person ate the caps off about eight and a stimulating, light hearted enjoyable experience was had, quite different from what the sub warning thread suggests, maybe more like low dose cubensis, I wonder if the potential potency of a given strain is dictated by perfect conditions, lunar cycles, and maybe where the mushroom grows. This has always been a more mellow enjoyable strain of sub and happens to have a (umbonate?) nippley cap when mature, I was intigued about the possibility of subs - eucalyptus and australiana, whether native pcilocybe species should be under the one sub umbrella, or if there is a distint variety? I was also intrigued by whether their were different amounts levels ratios percentages pie charts of the amount of alkaloids contained in the cap and stem. Cap is different to the stem or it is all the same?

    Compost worms

This year we have been getting excited about hot composting - food scraps and poo to usable compost in 8 weeks - google it its awesome although a bit off the topic from worms. basically a cubic metre - with layers of greens (nitrogen high - food scraps, poo, Lucerne, wallibys and rabbits, carp? SEAWEED) and Browns (Carbon rich - sugar cane mulch, wood chips, acacia bark - (helps prevent root rot) leaf litte. If your layers are 10 cm thich go brown green brown green brown green brown green brown green brown. We seal in the smell by having a good layer of hay on top. however after 5 days skinky food scraps will smell like mother earth. Once you have Carbon - Nitrogen ratios right - you need to get the moisture and air combo happening. As wet as a rung out sponge, and after the first week turned every three days. We tried different methods of containing it but in the end their is nothing better than a good old heap. Set it up and you will be amazed in three days at the temperature in the middle of the pile - heating up to 70 degrees! as it cools down it is time to turn it - increase air. Aerobic composting is so much better than anaerobic it doesn't smell, doesn't let off as much methane, and is much much quicker, and what a great way to utilise the wasted road kill. Once you get it cr5anking you will be on the hunt for nitrogen - food scraps from cafes, poo from farms, road kill, carp are all achievable, Carbon if you know a tree lopper try and score free mulch.

    Warning on Subs

It is good to here other people experiencing dreams, and the compass thing where you are drawn to a patch, the last two seasons they seemed to be everywhere I went. I moved at the start of this year and am intrigued to see what will happen this year, whether I am drawn to places i have visited before or if I am drawn to new places where I live now. Last year I was led on a little walk into the gully 200 metres from my house and found one of the biggest patches I have ever seen. I've wondered if subs are different because they are native and are more connected to the local spirit world than we will ever be. experiences were had 200 metres from wher the patch was located where there were connections made with the natural world, trees, bush, water. I agrre that With a larger dose people may feel tired, want to close their eyes, feel cold and feel stiff like wood and they wondered if you were becoming the tree that the fungus grew under?. A connection to trees and wood seems common. I think 29 grams of dried material is a very big dose and possibly dangerous. any dose is entering an unknown. I think It is naive to think you could relate a plant to a synthesized chemical. I enjoyed relating certain psychedelic experiences to a carnival. In an orange room once I felt like i was in the middle of a spanish or south american festival. I agree that mixing other things with subs may alter the effects, 2 people had subs last year, 1 had a larger? dose and the other had a smaller dose - large dose person had 2 stronger? Lsd tabs, smaller dose mushroom had 3 Stronger? LSD tabs. Large dose mushroom 2 Lsd tabs person said everything went into fast forward, wasn't in control, enjoyed psychedelic music for a while but then had to spend the rest of evening in bed which luckily only toook 5 minutes as everything was in fast forward. mild mushroom and 3 tabs LSD lost control and was taken to a nurse where he passed out for a bit, then made everyone laugh for a bit, then also went to bed. I'm not sure if either of these experiences were positive or negative, but haven't been repeated. I think it is wise to warn people about these things, you are opening a door that you don't know what is on the other side.

    Compost worms

if you have access to bread crates that is a winner for an industrial strength worm farm. 5 bread crates covered in something, we had a sheet of eco ply wood which was perfect, bottom crate sealed with builders plastic with drainage hole into bucket, second tray is base tray with worm starter kit, peat mos, newspaper, lucerne, shade cloth lined to prevent wormys from escape, next three trays are the roptational trays. lid on top. worms love it. all recycled materiels. they charf the food nown now but took them 2 months to get crackin. does anyone know where you can buy native worms, i am interested in wicking garden beds full of poo but apparently native worms are necessary who prefer poo to food scraps.
  12. first off i'm not sure if prickly lettuce is native - the way it grows up the highway here i could understand if it is an introduced pest, however a very interesting plant and would love to learn more if anyone has anything to share regarding experience with the plant, how to efficiently use it, extraction techniques of the latex. thanks

    prickly lettuce

I tried a few different ways but my favourite was to strip a plant so that i had around 2 handfuls of leaf, boil it in a pot of water, strain the water and then boil it again, strain the water then throw away plant material, combine both seta of water and reduce, reduce, reduce - at the end it gets a bit bubbly and sticky so don't use your best pot is wise advice, either scrape off dried goop and smoke or add a tiny bit of water make into a paste and ingest. after this a pleasent experience was had, relaxed, grounding and connected, comfortable in your surroundings. good times. there is still heaps everywhere in the goulburn valley.

thanks for sharing, i even found some in my back yard! with the water extraction how much was a dose?

    prickly lettuce

after going for a drive today i realised it is pretty well everywhere at the moment, a friend pointed it out last week and since then i have seen lots. bleeding the plant and letting it dry in the sun was what the friend suggested and since i have read of making a tea out of 2 handfuls of fresh leaf, i just wonerdered if there were any other suggestions?

    prickly lettuce

sorry this thread is in the wrong section. definately introduced. I haven't got any pictures but there seem to be two main vrietys of lettuce growing down the highway, one has leaves similar to the one in this picture http://www.weeds.org.au/cgi-bin/weedident.cgi?tpl=plant.tpl&state=&s=&ibra=all&card=H75, and matches the description. the other type which is more common seems to be the same plant, except the leaves aren't wavy around the edge( wish i kne the technichall word but i don't) i will try and get a picture.

    Hawaiian baby woodrose, questions...

A Foaf said that between 5 or 10 is a good dosage depending on the strain, after some initial nausea the rest of the experience is usually funny and euphoric however not very hallucinagenic. more of a head trip than visual. I told him that Alcohol would break up the alcaloids and destroy the trip but he suggested that a bit of booze helped with the nausea and did not destroy the trip which may suggest that there are other alcaloids afoot. they sell extractions in Amsterdam and in London at Camden market. He bought 100 seeds for 30 dollars which made for quite a cheap experience and after perhaps excessive use started to experience negative side affects. However he was also experimenting with other illegal bits and pieces like absinthe, mescaline, marijuana, extasy and Lsd. The ony advice I could give to him was that consuming this recreationally in this country was illegal and he stopped!

    Victorian bushwalking

depends what you want, wilsons prom rocks but will be swarming with tourists at thatr time, i am out in the bush all the time and one of my favourite spots is lake talican (spelling?) it is up just past licola and is the onlyy natural alpine lake, all the rest are damned and is definatelly more remote, one of the quiter spots, otways is also cool but will also be swarming at that time, It is better there in autumn when it is quieter and also quite shroomy. hehe. heaps to do and see, Alpine walking track rocks but could do with a bit more than A FEW days! good luck.
  19. the very first night i received my peyote i put him in a safe spot outside. in the morning was very upset to discover he had been attacked! i have inspected the wounds and beleive a caterpilla is the culprit. do bugs get affected by halucinagenic plants like we do ?
  20. I spotted the not hash on a spoon and the desired effect was achieved. the not opium i smoked through a piece pipe with a butane lighter, I had a 1/3 gram which was chopped up finely in 2 goes, this worked well. The thing I found odd was that these products boil or melt rather than burn and smoke, all the hash I have had in the past in big blocks smoke prefucely when you cut trhrough them with a hot knife. I assume this is because this product is more oily?

    subs

happy hunting indeed. First day not much was foung 3 lonely speciment in total but all subs (light purpley spre print, white stem bruised blue, yellowy browny cap). Second day found what was thought to be subs, perfect shape, stem cap e.t.c. However it had just rained fairly heavily and all the mushrooms in the forest were gooey, and bruised blue already, IS this because of the rain causing the bruising or are these another species? Also found some shrooms growing on roo dung but didn't know what they were, had an instinct to pick them but thought better of it, anyway having got on the forum today and seen the ps. tasmania I would have picked them because I swear they were them!

    subs

yeah you're right thanks gerbil, the mature ones caps were flat or undulating, however the young ones that are the usual shape were also blue, is this a different species?
