  1. Here are some photos guys :D

    T. peruvianus I harvested for areoles and re-grafted today. In my experience with Harrisia you NEED weight holding down the scion, with my Opuntia grafts I needed none.

SS02 X Juuls seedling grafted 2-3 days prior. Hasn't shrivled up which is a good sign.

    imag0136g.th.jpg

PC Pach I grabbed from PD, also re-grafted today. It wasn't actively growing so I'm not expecting much for a while.

Will let you guys know how it goes :D

  2. figured id go to my local library and have a look

there were only 2 books in on the subject of fungi in aus

i had a look through and noticed all the pages refering to psiloscybe and other active speices had been torn out in both books :BANGHEAD2:

    censorship or vandalism?

think ill just have to buy a copy

What were the names? I can have a look in the ANU library if you like :D

  3. If anyone has some generic run of the mill edibles, I'm more than happy to take them off your hands ;) I've got 5 acres to work with and really want to do a massive grow for my parents. Can offer $$$$ or non-edible prints. PM if interested :D

P.S. First grow, so something easy appreciated :D

    Thanks muchly!

  4. I did my first attempt with said Harrisia. Also tried with Monvilea spegazzini. I will let you know if they take.

Sweet! Any luck? I tried one with a pachycereus pringlei seedling but it failed. However, I put this down to it being my first graft and me not making a clean cut on the scion. I wasn't happy with the originally cut because it was on an angle so I went against my better instincts and tampered with it, slipping and making a royal mess of the scion. Basically over the course of a week, the scion turned black and then disintegrated into nothing. Going to try with a few trich seedlings and such. Will surely take photos!

Can I try with a section of a PC pach cutting I have? Bought it off of PD and have no idea how long it's been cut. Does the scion have to be actively growing?

    Cheers!

  5. Bottom heat is what you're after for germing, flouros are great!

Don't pay marked up prices, just go to an electrical wholesaler...for best results if ya got a friend in the trade borrow their shirt or see if ya can get them to buy for ya.

    Use gro-lux too excellent B)

Exactly what I am going to do - dad has an account with a local Rexel supplier :)

Here is my new setup, with the following strains (left to right, top to bottom) I estimate there are 500+ seeds in there. The photo is from exactly a week after sowing:

Pachanoi x Rosei #1, pach x psych0, ICARO, Fields pach x Peruvianus, Peruvianus x pach, knuthianus

The temperature at the top of the tank is around 27C whilst the soil temp is 23-24C with no heating.

The fluoro at the moment is the stock 8W one for the fish tank, just have to head to the supplier tomorrow. What sort of wattage am I chasing? Am thinking 30-40 if I can get :) If I'm not happy with what they have, I might just grab some LED lights off eBay. Thanks for all the useful advice guys, will post photos of the grow once they're bigger!

  6. Top score!

I can get cuttings of the Myrtillocactus easy as,have a plant myself, pretty old plant too.

They take a while to take and grow but cool looking lil fellers....them spikes are tuff!

    PM if interested.

    Cheers mesc...

Do you have PMs disabled? The envelope button doesn't appear for you but it does for everyone else.

Here's a T. peruvianus I grabbed from bunnings a few months ago. Once I removed it from the small pot it came in and put it in full sun, it's really fattened up:

  7. oh no!

ah well, your pedro should recover. and i also advise the fish tank and fluoro idea.

I'm currently running a two CFL setup, 24 watts each, 2700k warm white, Philips tornado's found at any grocery or hardware stores, you just have to be up to scratch with your wiring skills as to not create a major fire hazard.

note. also i am not running a heat mat, overnight i just sit my takeaway container on my laptop PSU for a bit of heat and so far no troubles.

also give that peres a drink

Cool. I will keep that in mind. I have a few lamp holders that take those bulbs so I wouldn't even have to wire them up!

  8. yes as madhouse said foil does cause burns and creates hot spots in your grow box/chamber, panda film or flatt white paint are about the only good thing for reflecting besides mylar which is hell expensive not to mention hard to find (besides hydro shops). but there are emergency blankets which are made from mylar might not be cheaper but much better then foil and easier to find then panda film or actual mylar

Indeed! The coleus are all toast. I've conceded defeat until I get the fish tank going. On another note though, the peres is LOVING the light. Check out the difference in 2 days:

I also burnt the tip of a pedro cutting, hopefully it'll go back to the nice green it was before.

  9. Ok thanks for all the suggestions guys :D I ended up transferring my coleus seeds from the jiffy pellets into some potting mix and rigged up some al foil until I can afford a nice big CFL (few weeks). I am concerned about the light burning the plants at this height and will probably move them down.

When I head home in a couple of weeks, I'm going to make a seedling raising box from an old fish tank and heater as hutch suggested. I will just replace the fluro light with a more powerful one. Should be a good place to raise the 1000 or so cacti I want to plant :D

  10. Hello once again,

As the title implies, I am chasing bulk cacti seed to purchase. The SAB store has pretty cheap bulk ICARO seed, but I am chasing bridge and pach seed as well. I already have mountains of spach :D

While we're at it, I'm always interested in bulk other trich seed.

Just shoot me a PM with your asking price is probably the best way :D

    Cheers

  11. Ill grab those

VVV Acacia sophorae seeds, acacia longifolia seed, various chilli seeds, bwr seeds, pap som seed VVVV

    Keen! VVVVVVVVV Gets:

    Some syrian rue

    Datura ferox seed

Grafted cactus seedling of your choice (have got gold x spach, spach x gold, pachycerus pringleii and a few others). The stock can be either Harrisia or peres.

  12. Hey there,

Finally got around to identifying a cactus which was growing in my paddock as Harrisia martinii. From what I've seen, in the last 2 months, it's produced pups (many, many, many, many) that have grown in excess of 30cm! Now, I don't know what the growth rate of pereskopsis is as I've only just thrown my cuttings into the ground, but this looks ridiculously high! So I got thinking and had a quick google, but couldn't really find much on the net about using Harrisia as a grafting stock. Basically all I found was that you CAN but no elaboration or personal experience. I've got some pachycerus pringleii seedlings which I want to graft, but I fear the peres won't be sturdy enough to take the scion when it's huge (the seedlings planted at the same time as pachanoi and peruvianus are almost 4 times the size now!)

Q: Has anyone tried using it as a stock?

Q: Would anybody like some for free to try using? I know they're everywhere in QLD but maybe some southerners would like some :D

    Thank you in advance :)
