    autoclavable POLYPROPYLENE PETRI DISH question

At tafe there are two types of plastic petri dishes. Polystyrene ones that melt in the autoclave and polypropelene ones that are autoclavable. I am not saying that all polypropelene ones are fine but I'd say these ones are ok if they say they are autoclavable. A pressure cooker at 15psi gets no hotter than an autoclave.

    autoclavable POLYPROPYLENE PETRI DISH question

Yeah I'd keep them from touching the bottom but yes, fully autoclavable means they can handle 15psi 121 C

    Good Shroom Book

I got a new book today. Australian Fungi Illustrated, By I. R. McCann here is the first link i found on google: http://www.boomerangbooks.com.au/Australian-Fungi-Illustrated/Ian-McCann/book_9780975078006.htm It seems ok, I have Bruce Fuhrer's companion to Australian fungi and it seems quite similar. Ie lots of nice pics but little to no info. It basically just gives a name of genus and where possible species and then where it was seen and when. I would say it is a bit better than fuhrers book in that it covers quite a few more shrooms, it crams a lot of pics into a little book. Does anyone have any of the CSIRO's publications? Australian Fungi 1a, 1b, 2a, or 2b. I was thinking of investing in these soon, its a pretty big investment though at $80 each.

  15. I've always had a dream of making a place out of em. Pile them two high around the perimeter of a property then fit them out as rooms. So they act as a wall as well as a house. have a nice big yard in the middle.

I heard from a mate today that there are still plenty of fungi in the mountains, Katoomba to blackheath. I dont think Oberon would be too different.

Weirdest place you've ever seen a plant grow!?

i had a mushroom grow from a crack in a lino floor at an old house. The fridge i had at the time was a heavy old beast and cracked the lino under it. It was always moist cos the thing leaked a little water too. pretty funny

    dehumidifier

When i'm drying edible musrooms i usually spread them on a peice of newspaper in front of a fan for between 12 and 24 hours. After this time they are much drier. To remove the last of the moisure i get a large jar with airtight lid and put about 10cm of damprid in the bottom. You can get it from the hardware store. It is just calcium chloride powder and costs about $10 for 1kg. I them put some flyscreen on top of that. i usually use about 2 layers. This is just to stop the mushrooms from touching the damp rid. The mushroom is dry enough once the stem cracks instead of bending.
