  1. "ingredient besides water is sodium laural sulphate which theoreticly kills bacteria "

    SLS doesn't kill bacteria.

We use it to select for Enterobacteria, faecal coliforms, E.coli etc..

    Kai.

If Laural equivalent to lauryl, otherwise just ignore.

  2. The Marula tree

The Africans produce a drink from the marula berries, similar to Baileys, called Amurula. Lovely stuff, cheap and available. Has elephants and a bit of gold string on the bottle.

  5. Seems those clever little Saff efrigan scientists are at it again. This time Viagra no less.

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

South African scientists working on 'Viagra' tree

PRETORIA (AFX) - South African scientists say they have isolated the

active ingredients of the root of the violet tree, which is chewed by men

in the north of South Africa to obtain erections, and are applying for

    patents.

Marion Meyer, head of the botany department at the University of

Pretoria, told the SAPA news agency the active ingredients had been tested

on smooth muscle samples obtained from hospitals. They had the same effect

as Viagra, relaxing the muscle to allow blood to flow into it, he said.

Meyer said clinical trials on human beings could start in about three

years, and if successful a new drug could be launched about two years

    later.

The violet tree is found in the north of South Africa and elsewhere on

    the continent.

Meyer said the university's scientists are keeping traditional healers

informed of their progress. The healers would also benefit from the profits

should a drug be registered in the future.

Found it in a GlaxoSK News Item, not sure how/what where they've got to do with it however.

  6. ""A: The answer is quite clearly no, there is no change in the chemical structure of one plant due to the grafting of it to another plant.""

Sorry, I don't know about the alkaloid situation , but there is a classical experiment where a plant (kept in the dark) is induced to flower, by grafting it on to a flowering plant (Kept in the light). I can't remember the exact details ( I can find out if you want) but it did involve the transportation of hormones, from one to the other.

What initiates the production of alkaloids I don't know, metabolic byproducts, stress or whatever, but it may be due to some kind of chemical signal/precursor floating around. Maybe someone could graft a Loph onto a tiny Pach, and another onto an old peyote, and compare alkaloidal content weight(gain)for weight(gain)

    just my 2c, Kai

  7. Your other 4% is probably methanol, (Nasty toxic stuff) and maybe dyes/colourings, maybe some water as well

Does it leave any residue on clean glass or foil after being evaporated?

Is ethanol the best solvent for Psilocin etc..?

Should be easy to find out,

    l8r K.

  8. Thanks T and Trypt, you put my mind at rest.

Tis the season to put all the good stuff inside each night, pineapple, ginger, cacti, etc..

    Its my only workout.

And I love to move myself to somewhere warmer.

  9. Slighty off topic but anyway..

I planted some ginger a year or so ago. It came up nice and big, about 6-7 main shoots about 2 foot high.

These are now begining to die. The colour is leaving the leaves. Is this due to winter, or is it dying?

    Anyone know?
