Hows everybodys catha germination going, I planted about 25 seeds and now have 8 little babies, they certainly took their time. Also I have 3 Acacia maidenii seedlings popping up (out of 5 seeds). I love the way their 'fanleaves' open and close. Anyone know why they do this? Kai

Curently reading this book and love it (so far). There is something in the beginning that is intriguing me however. (Ch.5) He mentions a lichen/orange peel strategy for producing synthetic THC. the essential oil from scabs(lichens) from rocks, mixing it with some orange peel from the garbage, a touch of phosphorus oxychloride, and heh presto. THC Sasha then goes on to mention olivetol and pulegone as refining this experiment, and "produced a sizable quantity of marjuana-like material resembling THC. This may have been asked before but a search turns up those lost pages. And takes quite a bit of time. But anyone know what this is all about, surely cannot be so simple. l8r kai.

some good stuff in ERowids newsletter (Extracts) about the T.Peru vs T.Pach 10 times more potent theory. Some of the data quoted incl. T. Peruvianus, 0.817% by dry weight (Pardanani JH et al (1977)) T. Pachanoi 2.0% ... Poisson J (1960). Pachanoi ranging from 0.33% -- 2.375%, Peruvianus, from 0% to 0.8175 from various sources, too lazy to type. hope this helps Kai

Torsten, The orange tipped seeds (longifolia?) are actually germinating now. I'm still not convinced. Some of the A.Maidenii Tags were just on the ground between a bunch of trees, but the one we got the seeds from actually had a metal tag on one of its branches. Any chance the ANBG could be wrong. The seeds were in a twisted/spirally little seed pod, prolly about 3 inches long if you could stretch, but only about half that length. The seeds were jet black, with a bright orange covering, covering about 1/3 of the seed. With regards to Cathy, how are you guys going about germinating these guys, any special instructions, or just a bit of patience? l8r Kai.

Cheers guys, I actually was looking for what A. Madenii seeds should look like, and found out about this scarifying(sp) business (from the ANU botany dept). I have just put a couple of seeds in soem boiling water for minute, and I'll see what happens. Will try tipping them as well. Anyone else seen genuine a.maidenii seeds, do they go from having an orange cap to white over the course of a year?

In the current Erowid extracts, there is a discussion on "Do Antioxidants protect against MDMA Hangover, Tolerance and Neurotoxicity" It goes on to say, "There are some theoretical concerns about possible dangerous interactions between MDMA and SSRIs although these are not bourne out by case reports and a research suggests that SSRIs reduce MDMA overall physiological effects. Dpespite these issues there is good reasons to belive SSRIs are effective at reducing the risk of neurotoxicity. And on... "Antioxidants could be more promising than SSRIs for widespead use in MDMA toxicity" So the jist of it I guess is, if accidents happen, take some Vit C. Its a good article, but I dunno about it being online, I guess it may be in erowid.org somewhere. Well, http://www.erowid.org/general/about/about_...v1/2-nejm.shtml it seems its not online YET. There'll be a list of references as well. L.K.

Well Reville, Want the good news or the bad. I went to the ANBG today, and saw the A. Maidenii. There was some old seed pods still attached to the tree :-) (with the A. Maidenii tag also attached) probably last years. Anyway, had a look at the pods and they has some seeds in. However, they were black (like yours) but with a bright (unmistakable) orange cover at one end, (like yours but yours were white). Most were slightly bigger as well. So I dunno which is the correct species? :-( The A. Maidenii you supplied, how do you germinate them. ATM I have one seed between some damp bogroll. Hopefully you'll read this otherwise I'll send this to the AFSR addy, if you don't reply here. l8r Kai

cheers Reville, Received the seeds today. When I first got here to Canberra I went to the Botanic gardens to see what A. Madenii looked like, and whether I could distinguish it from any other species. I gave up. And no, I didn't start digging up its roots. I'll germinate the extra seeds you gave me, but if what you say about REALLY needing A. Maidenii, then I guess I could go back to to the ANBG and borrow some. Dunno about the ethics but could always ask for some. (don't think a few seeds from a tree is gonna be missed) And there wont be any doubt over its identity. When do they produce seeds, autumn? Any special instructions for germinating Catha? I guess a sandy dryish well-drained soil, + a bit of miracle grow now and again, and some sun? Any idea about how long the seeds may remain viable. L8r Kai.

Yep, me too. THey are kinda like a tack,( drawing pin )smartie with an erection. brown, some are under the skin. When you try and dig'um out, esp. the small ones it seems to make things worse. the large ones seem to pick off easy, leaving a (nice) clean scar and no probs. Are these still scale Torsten? Very irritating. spiral, for your info, I've used no fungiside, just a low N fertiliser about once/twice a month. kai k.

I'd be interested in a few seed too. However a couple of quick questions. I can't find anything of its legality here in Oz, purely for ornamental/aesthetic/fragrant uses. And reville, how do we pay money to the AFSR? I don't mind sending $20 in the post but do you have a paypal account or something. How do folks do it? L8r K.
