  1. Hey guys,

Yea, I've heard the CSIRO stuff is great. Pretty $$$-ish for me atm as I'm trying to obtain plants and a decent setup. [Ebay oinly has some random CSIRO weightloss one..]

Is SWIY able to host the CD as an ISO or something online somewhere? Even if it's just a use-once torrent? [if not, don't worry I guess.]

    - As I will be getting a couple of them off the site eventually, as someone suggested the handbook is worth the money itself.

Tremendous amount of help and info in these forums! blush.gif

    Thanks Guys!

    BB

  2. It's a good time to get into learning how to graft around the forum here butter bricks et al. There are two free Pereskiopsis threads, (a small cactus that makes grafting tiny seeds easy and fast) and you just need to get hold of some seeds. Lopho's are not illegal to possess in NSW. I believe currently they are in the ACT and Qld <-- weird shitty law but it was passed some time ago from what my poor memory is recalling.

That said I also believe that many cactus collectors, and I do mean actual collectors, not eaters, consider lopho's to be an essential part of their collections. They are such beautiful plants and for me they have a freakin massive energy about em! The first time I saw one in the flesh I was literally speechless it was so beautiful - I still have that one now.

I find that Loph's are particularly hard to part with, (but thats just me) I tend to give them to close friends who I know will look after them and watch them grow as they grow old with them. I get goodness just from being around mine, I'd never eat em.

All that said there are usually a few available on e b ay under 'button cactus' - but IMO learn to raise seeds n' graft and you will have a stack of lophs in a year or two.

    peace

Hey there, Thanks for the time to reply! smile.gif

Hehe, Yea I know what you mean they are a pretty amazing cactus. I won't deny I have plans on consuming several assorted plants … but I've had a sudden call to horticulture! Plants are amazing, and with my current commitments I can actually still have them with a job, Uni and little monies in my pocket. As you often have to just kinda *sigh* and say maybe later with a lot of things.. which sucks because life has enought constrains as it is.

Yea, I just got a job in a nursery and bought a couple books of ebay on grafting so any hopefully wont just fail and die when I get some and give it a shot. - Can you recommend anything in particular to graft onto? Because there are different growth rates, etc.., etc.., right?

But yea, thanks for giving me the time of day.. really in sighting post there.

    Cheers.

  3. If you can't find anyone willing to give you some for free, you could save up the $4 needed to buy some seeds here

    http://www.shaman-au...ageframeset.htm

Plant, nurture, wait a few decades and you'll have one beautiful ornamental cactus.

Haha, thanks. I'm aware of the site but I didn't actually think of checking for this strain. Considering cultivation is relatively exponential, I was kinda hoping for a head start.

To readers, I dunno if 'free' is the right term, I'm more than willing to cash up (as it's really only fair), but that said, I don't plan on leaving you with a large profit margin.

For those who don't require anything other than postage (There’s no way I’m letting you pay postage), I do intend on repaying the favour.

  4. Hey guys!

wow, thanks for all the imput!

OK.. so Yea, all the Acacia's in my area have started flowering in the last few weeks. Before that I hadn't even seen them round!

This one has really thick bark on it which peels off in sections, this sets it appart from the other in the area which don't even appear to have bark other than a dense, thick flesh. The bark is currently falling off/already has, still plenty on it atm.

Its (Actually there are two) a fair bit shorter than the rest, standing about... 2-3meters tall.

On a previous post it was mentioned that a shot of the tree itself would help, should I do this? or perhaps a more developed branch?

    EDIT: Added Info.

  5. I am after some E species, preferably sinica/sinensis,gerardiana,major, helvetica, dystachia and Ephedra nevadensi

I have lots to trade for seeds, seedlings or plants.

Let me know what your after,

Have many acacia species, seed and seedlings, some small shrubs, cultriformis, longifolia, sophorae, podalyriffolia, maidenii, heaps of others,

Heaps of cactus seeds and seedlings, lophs, peruvianas, pach, bridg,

    Pviridis,carth,alba seed,

HWBR, heaps of different chillis, etc

Anyway have heaps more, lots of natives, lots of everything.

    seeds must be viable!!!!

Also after some "viable" columbrina, cebil, had 2 sprout and both got rot within 72hrs :-( what a mistake, no further viables found

    Trade only?

    - I'm after Lophophora..

  6. The victor writes the history books. That does not mean anything/everything written [ie. what we read ] about the wars of past is true.

    [edit: for bad grammar]

I disagree. I think it's all true. - It's just we are then bound to viewing history through a possibly biased context.

But considering it even further, everything the defeated writes isn't true as well (A. Greece is a good example of this.).

    There is no objectivity! newimprovedwinkonclear.gif

  7. I am in much the same boat as ButterBricks, I would love some free seeds, or if need be, money can change hands.

Same stance, be more than happy to accept seeds or bulbs (hopefully bulbs/roots), but would again be more than willing to fork out for a larger cactus with multiple heads, left/gave away most of my garden at my last house, but I could always trade on a credit if ppl are cool with that.

  8. I've always thought that if Australia had to introduce conscription (or something dire) I would enlist anyway, but that was because I thought there wouldn't be enough people rallying at home.

Feels great to see people would stand by, seems most would do thier part under thier own rule, which is great too.

Whoever said run and hide... Shame, Shame.

    Advance Australia Fair!

  9. Bump.

I think I just realised how much fun I was missing out on!!! ~ Seems like I gotta move to Melbourne after reading some of these posts... like, WOW.

SWIM tells me some of those critters go for $20/g round here, and then you can never get them anyway..

  10. the second one may be a.retinodes

Yea, I think your right, a friend said he thought he had some and they were sometimes called 'Wirilda' or something.

    - You recognise the other one? ...Looks a little like the one in the original post but it has leaves instead of spines and a Teal sort of colour.

  11. Yup, think you nailed it guys. - Thanks for the help! - Haven't seen any pods around like some featured in the links, but might not have been looking hard enough or it mightn't be the right time of year.

Gotta say, it's somewhat demoralising. I got full excited when I found this guy, thought all my years of trying to get that substance were over.. But yea, will get no yield outta this type of Acacia.

Been searching for an Acacia's with that substance for for a while now, given up on considering importing extracts.

Think I might need to turn to growing from scratch.. Everyone knows most of the seeds one might want are online, wish I did that all that time ago but.

    - Guess I'll have to wait another couple years. sad.gif

    Thanks Again Guys,

    BB

  12. looks like Acacia mearnsii...

Yea, "Looks like" is true. Though, if you look closely the foliage is actually little spines that come off like what I think is referred to as 'Bi-pinnare Leaves'.

    - I've never seen an Acacia like this one before, if it is one, certainly looks similar.

Someone posted this link a few days ago. Kudos to whoever did (sorry, I can't remember)

    Thanks Mate, Nice Link!

    ... Any Ideas people? scratchhead.gif
