A riddle given to 14yo Maths Students
DELETED ACCOUNT replied to Halcyon Daze's topic in Chill Space
Nice riddle! Choices: May / 15, 16, 19 June / 17, 18 July / 14, 16 August / 14, 15, 17 Albert knows that Bernard doesn't know. This means it can't be May 19 or June 18, as if Bernard knew these days (18 or 19), he would have already figured it out. May / 15, 16, 19 June / 17, 18 July / 14, 16 August / 14, 15, 17 Bernard doesn't know to start with, but now he knows Albert definitively thinks he couldn't have known beforehand. So, he knows the month can't be May or June, as only July or August have all non-unique days. May / 15, 16, 19 June / 17, 18 July / 14, 16 August / 14, 15, 17 For Bernhard to now know the answer, given he was only told a day, it must have been either July 16, or August 15 or 17, because if he was told 14, he couldn't be sure between July 14 and August 14. May / 15, 16, 19 June / 17, 18 July / 14, 16 August / 14, 15, 17 Now that Albert knows Bernard has the answer, he can figure that it must have been July 16, because otherwise Bernard couldn't have been sure, as there are two choices left in August. These kind of puzzles are called induction puzzles or common knowledge logic puzzles. Another tricky one is the Muddy Children problem. It's crazy to think that there are many 'levels' of knowledge... I know the answer. July 16. Now I know that you know I know the answer. Now I know that you know I know you know I know the answer. Now I know that you know I know you know I know you know I know the answer. Now I know that... etc., ad infinitum... whoa dude. -
I have a tall keepcup which does the same job for me. They're not too expensive, $10 ea?

My brother picked up a kiwano a few years ago and straight away his hands, face and eyes swelled up like they were going to explode. Turns out it's one of the only things he's allergic to (that, and aspirin, go figure). -
Netflix / Stan on TVs without the apps (in Australia)?
DELETED ACCOUNT posted a topic in Chill Space
Hi, There seem to be a few tech-minded folk on these forums, so... just wondering if anyone has managed to get Netflix/Stan streaming to an old TV without a dedicated app? If so, how did you do it? Newer "smart" TVs can just download an app for each service and you're set, but for older ones like my Samsung Series 5, or old Bravia EX600, well, there just ain't no app! Just a handful of crappy or expensive services including Quickflix. I'm thinking a ChromeKey would work, but I don't love the idea of needing to crank up the laptop every time I want to use it. Also, something like a Roku streaming player would be cool, but these aren't available to Australians (yet?), and I don't want the extra expense of a high-throughput VPN, which some streaming services are cracking down on anyway. I've even tried XBMC/Kodi on a Raspberry Pi with the XBMCFlix app, to no avail. Argh! (...aaaaand don't even think about suggesting BitTorrent + USB drives instead!) Ta -

Sweeeet. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which runs Chrome, so ought to be able to use that. Awesome, thanks Alice, I think I'll try a ChromeKey after all. Using my phone as a remote does sound pretty cool. In Australia? Does it stream Netflix or Stan? I was under the impression the streaming services on the Roku were US and UK only, which is why I thought you need a VPN from here to get it to work. -

Cool, so I can get one here, but don't you need a VPN to access the streaming services it uses which are in the US? If I'm wrong, and you can use it with Netflix Australia and/or Stan, I'd definitely like to try one out! Great idea, I do, I have a Nintendo Wii console! Unfortunately, it only streams Netflix in 480p (640x480) -

I notice the other Myanma owners weren't arrested, only the foreigner. Hopefully sense will prevail. Incidentally, "Gastro"-bar? (...I'm joking :-) $20 bottomless margeritas sound all-right though! -

You bet, seconded. I can't remember the last time I'd gripped the armrests so tightly and sweated so much through a movie before, that shit was tense. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/whiplash_2014/

"Gemalto Execs reading the news about their hacking by GCHQ and NSA": (from DevOps Reactions) If you think that's bad, this'll really bake your noodle: the NSA is suspected of embedding spy software in the firmware of major hard-drive brands, like Western Digital, Seagate and Toshiba. Between that and phone call spying alone, there's not much digital privacy left!

I don't listen to d&b as much as I used to these days, but one of the first ever tracks I remember downloading (whoops, Soulseek ;-) was called "Cooper's World" by Squarepusher. It turns out it was mislabelled, but it's a good one nevertheless: Maybe it's more "IDM" than D&B, but I like it. The diorama effect of the video is awesome, too. One of the more recent tracks I remember liking was this one (play it loud): Although I guess this is probably "acid", not d&b either, haha

I also recon Mitch Hedberg was one of the greatest: There aren't too many comedians, either still here or since, who could pull off a whole show of hilarity without resorting to anything rude. Mitch was the master. Also, Eddie Izzard is pretty good:

I read this and thought... really? I loved it! Then realised you weren't talking about this great Aussie psychological thriller. I don't think I'll bother with Seth Rogan's one... I liked this too, as well as Frank Miller's Sin City which is a similar live action / cartoon hybrid style. I recently saw Chef with Jon Favreau, it's a pretty nice movie. Lots of close-up food porn scenes, too. I also re-watched The Game from the 90s, it's a great example of a modern film-noir thriller. After Wall Street, Michael Douglas seemed to have played the same type of character several times
