I have some trich pollen on some cotton buds, if you would like me to send it over, let me know. I can include some pictures of the mother as well. It comes from my oldest cactus which is about 6 yrs in the ground from a nice fat cutting. Super robust and fat and fast growing, short orange spine pach. F

Radioactivity is produces by the spontaneous decay of atomic nuclii, there really is nothing to be done to reduce radioactivity (re- the brown gas comment), Uranium 235 or whatever will decay at its prescribed rate regardless. There is no way to shorten the half life. Sure you can shield it to reduce emissions or dilute it until it is no longer classified as radioactive but you cant remove the activity from the material itself. Most people probably wouldn't know that we (West Australians) already have a nuclear waste disposal facility, it is for waste that is generated in WA only and we are very careful not to accept anything into WA that is shipped here in an effort to dispose of it. It is also very expensive. Geologically Australia is probably one of the best places on earth to construct a nuclear waste dump. Not that anyone who wasn't thinking about $$ would consider the possibility but it certainly could be lucrative.

I have 4 cotton buds with some trich pollen collected this afternoon. Very robust plant, thick & fast grower, short spined, Std HP. Would anyone like one, or like to swap one. I assume collection with a cotton bud is the preferred method. F

When I first became interested in mycology I read about dunking the cakes to help rehydrate them for subsequent flushes. The spent cakes never seemed to absorb any water and this just sped up the contamination process. I moved away from trying to fruit off cakes and started crumbling them up and casing them in a dish. This worked well but re hydrating wasn't much of an option. Literature suggested misting to keep the humidity high but I found constant misting seemed to introduce contams as well. Living in a drafty old house, the blue mold would take hold at its earliest convenience. During my last phase of experimentation I decided to lay down a casing layer then the spawn and then cover with a casing layer. The mycelium worked its way both up and down into both layers, however as the bottom layer was made up of mostly coco coir it was very absorbent even when fully colonised. After the first fruit when the whole mass had shrunk slightly I was able to pour some pre-boiled water down the side of the container, this was absorbed by the base layer which fed the rest of the spawn with water. The result was that I was able to get 3 flushes per container while keeping the spawn well fed with water and keeping contamination to a minimum. After the 3 flushes I concluded that the spawn was spent and broke them up and mixed with horse manure. The bottom layer did indeed absorb water well and seemed to keep the mycelium well hydrated without rot or contamination. The spawn was a lot less dense but still looked quite healthy and now has a new lease of life colonising a 100L storage container half full of horse manure. I hope someone finds this "revelation" useful, it certainly helped to reduce complexity and increase yields.

1) What is the mixture of your casing layer? You've just mentioned it has coco coir The mixture was just plain hydrated coco coir with some garden lime added to reduce the pH. A few handfuls until I thought that is about right. No measurements taken. 2) Do you pastuerise/sterilise the casing layer? In the past I didn't and I got heaps of contamination with blue mold. I now sterilise the casing layer. 3) How hydrated is the casing layer when you add it? Damp but not dripping, when I squeezed a handful I think there was about 5 ml of water released. I guess fully soaked and drained for 5 min would be about it. 4) What sorta depth are we talking here? 1 inch CL, 4 inch spawn, 1 inch CL? .75 inch CL, 2 inch spawn, .75 inch CL is what I usually use. 5) You mentioned it done in a container, was it like a mono tub, or a tray in a shotgun FC? In the bottom of a 10L bucket with some alfoil to cover until fully colonised, then cling wrap when I want to fruit. I like to watch. 6) Did you introduce it to fruiting conditions immediately or let it colonize for a bit? Everything is fully colonised before fruiting starts.

You are safer with glass. I didn't think to check once and ended up with an autoclave full of agar and melted plastic It cleaned up in the end but was a right pain. I went out and bought some glass ones straight away. You can usually pour media onto clean plastic plates in the kitchen without them getting infected. I prefer to make up a batch of agar and pour several plastic plates rather than claving my glass plates but that is personal preference.

I dreamt that I ate a sheet of blotter to avoid getting found out by the police. I had a few odd dreams like that before I had ever taken any lsd.

Take him for a big walk and when he has run out of energy and has stopped trying to hump everything, probably sometime tomorrow, light some insence and play him some chill out music. Maybe even give him a hash cookie for the tail end if he has been a good boy. If he does spew then the visions cant be too far behind. In all seriousness, its not poison, he will just have to ride it out. Can you imaging tripping out and being taken to hospital to have your stomach pumped, that would probably be more traumatic than the actual trip.

You can build your own solar panels. A kit of 72 individual cells, that need mounting and soldering can be bought from an online auction site for about 1/6 the price of the same panel prebuilt. Great if you can solder properly and have the patience to construct them yourself.

You need a fierce dog that will tear them a new one on your behalf. Its a terrible feeling to know someone has walked onto your property with the intent to steal your stuff. I had a plant stolen years ago and felt violated by the incursion. Slightly off topic but a friend of mine has a khat tree and the property will be flattened to make way for a new house. Is it worth trying to dig up the tree for transplant? Its been cut back many times and the base would be about as thick as me neck. It probably has a fair root system. Will an attempted transplant kill it? How big should the rootball be for survival?

In July the max limit was 90 days - 3 months. Its no biggie really, you can cross the border to Columbia for a day trip on a bus and renew the visa that way. BTW Its awesome, do it!

I picked up a bottle of this from the Belen markets in Iquitos, its meant to be a super tonic to fix everything from arthritis to libido. I believe the 7 roots are as follows. The bottle doesn't actually mention which roots are in there so I googled. 1 CLAVO HUASCA, Tynanthus panurensis 2 IPURURO, Alchornea castaneifolia 3 CHIRIC SANANGO Brunfelsia grandiflora. 4 PARA PARA Eustephia Coccinea 5 MACA 6 GUANARPO MACHO Jatropha Humboldtdiana 7 CHUCHUGUASI, Maytenus krukovii Blended in what might be rum My Spanish isn't great but what I can make out it is meant to be an aphrodisiac, curative, containing roots and resins, good for love, work and digestion. I have no complaints so far, its just a shame that once my bottle is empty it might be another couple of years before I can get a new one. I guess this is the jungle version of the chemist. They also sell powderedc bags of Ayahuasca ready to brew and powdered San Pedro. I really should have taken more photo's here.

Unfortunately I didn't take many photo's while in Belen and those were the only 2 I had from the Shaman's market. The day I went it was late and most had closed. I went back 2 weeks later to get some mapacho, Agua De Florida and the Siete Raices but I musn't have had my camera on me. I was nice and early that day and the place was full, there were stalls selling all sorts of barks and roots. I can take a pic of my bottle of 7 roots if that helps. I have many more photo's of my time in the jungle with Percy, at his Ayahuasca healing center. I have a pic of a very old Aya vine that is as thick as my thigh. I came home with over 600 photo's and am still kicking myself for not taking more.

I bought myself a 4.9m^2 traction kite at the end of last summer and have been considering donning the wetsuit and taking to the surf with it. I have tried it before with a smaller kite and it is like body surfing but with controls. My main concern is looking like live-bait for sharks. The summer sea breeze is perfect in Perth for kiting. video care of Yowie

Naboo: You've read all the books, but when it comes to the crunch - where are you? Saboo: How dare you speak to me of The Crunch! You know nothing of The Crunch. You've never even been to The Crunch. Naboo: I've been there once. Saboo: Oh, a little day trip around The Crunch. We can all go as tourists. Comedy gold

I can vouch for Naboo, we have had plenty of crazy times over the last 6 or so years and I dread to think how much alcohol we consumed together, and the rest It was me who suggested he try to network with the SAB crew in Melb having just arrived. He likes his doofs Do it

I´m Having a great time in Peru. Cuy (guinea pig) tastes fantastic. Cicha Morada is awesome. Real Mate de Coca I don´t think I am going to want to leave. While in Chile I found an ephedra bush in the San Pedro salt planes, it is used as a medicine called Pingo Pingo. Pictures to follow some time. I should be in Iquitos in a couple of weeks, I have a flight to Pucallpa organised and hope to catch a river boat for the final leg. Cactus everywhere.
