  1. Abstract (full article available for free download)
N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is classified as a naturally occurring serotonergic hallucinogen of plant origin. It has also been found in animal tissues and regarded as an endogenous trace amine transmitter. The vast majority of research on DMT has targeted its psychotropic/ psychedelic properties with less focus on its effects beyond the nervous system.

The recent discovery that DMT is an endogenous ligand of the sigma-1 receptor may shed light on yet undiscovered physiological mechanisms of DMT activity and reveal some of its putative biological functions. A three-step active uptake process of DMT from peripheral sources to neurons underscores a presumed physiological significance of this endogenous hallucinogen.

In this paper, we overview the literature on the effects of sigma-1 receptor ligands on cellular bioenergetics, the role of serotonin, and serotoninergic analogues in immunoregulation and the data regarding gene expression of the DMT synthesizing enzyme indolethylamine-Nmethyltransferase in carcinogenesis. We conclude that the function of DMT may extend central nervous activity and involve a more universal role in cellular protective mechanisms. Suggestions are offered for future directions of indole alkaloid research in the general medical field. We provide converging evidence that while DMT is a substance which produces powerful psychedelic experiences, it is better understood not as a hallucinogenic drug of abuse, but rather an agent of significant adaptive mechanisms that can also serve as a promising tool in the development of future medical therapies

  2. I watched this documentary the other day and thought it is worthwhile sharing.

    http://www.cultureunplugged.com/play/8638/Juliette-of-the-Herbs

"Synopsis: Juliette of the Herbs is a beautifully filmed lyrical portrait of the life and work of Juliette de Bairacli Levy: herbalist, author, breeder of Afghan hounds, friend of the Gypsies, traveler in search of herbal wisdom and pioneer of holistic veterinary medicine.

For more than 70 years Juliette lived with the Gypsies, nomads and peasants of the world, learning the healing arts from these people who live close to nature, and learning from nature herself. Juliette’s life story is as colorful and exciting as her tremendous wealth of herbal knowledge."

  3. Fantastic work there lindsay!!!

I try to get my head around a few questions maybe someone can help.

So we always talk about reishi here in Asutralia, but which species of Ganoderma is it actally? Viable tissue of the oversea commercially grown G. lucidum has rather strict import restrictions. There are a few Ganoderma species native to Australia, have they already been cultivated?

And why is there no commercial production of G. lucidum or any other Ganoderma species in Australia yet? Is it due to its biosecurity/species identification issues?

    All input welcome :)

  4. GI tract seems to be the major cause. Had psoriasis for ca 10 yrs starting in my mid-20's. After a diet change to gluten-free/ grain-free the skin healed up astoundingly fast in 6 weeks and has been symptom free since, that's now 2 years.

  5. Well i would not call it a flush as such (total of 3 mushrooms so far), as daytime temps were around 40. Will be interesting to see what effect actual autumn weather will have on the patch. :drool2:

  6. my gall stones looked like green jelly beans

Did the fast end with the consumption of a large amount of olive oil or was that achieved with the coffee enemas? In the first case the oil is supposed to lead to constriction/expulsion of the so called gall-stones. However I believe those "jelly beans" are not gall stones (real g-stones have very different color/texture) but rather congealed oil.

In regards to the coffee enemas as used in the "Gerson Therapy" roasted organic coffee is used, which is supposed to lead to a vaso-dilatation and hence increased liver blood-flow.

If this is true, from a physiological point of view-maybe . However, coffee enemas are def. an experience :bootyshake:
