  1. I don't have a house, so no houseguests ;)
And the shuttle driver won't start till friday late afternoon. If I get everything set up in time I could probably pick you up late and you could camp here.
Ideally it would be best if someone else can grab you as I am trying to not load myself up with extra duties and thursday is definitely much cheaper.
There is also the FB group mullumbytes where you could ask for rides. I can definitely pick you up in town.

  2. I don't think that's necessary @Torsten

    Thought so.

Gem, no one is stopping you from coming other than your guilt. I am not going to ban family members from attending just because you can't cope with them.

The camp idea was primarily to continue christian's legacy, but also for people who could not make it to the funeral for whatever reason. Some because they didn't have time or funds, others because they felt they weren't close enough to be at the family event, and some because their presence would have been problematic. It's not all about you.

For me the camp is mainly about being happy about having known christian. I've been sad for a long time and I hope that weekend will turn a corner. I am sure Caleb's cheery and colourful presence is going to help that :)

We're more likely to play this version at the camp ;)

  3. I was actually trying to deal with this privately directly with gem as I am pretty sure gem doesn't want the full story in public, but I am happy to go ahead publicly if you prefer.  I hate typing on the phone so will do that when I get home in a few hours.

And Caleb. Christian / andyamine organised these camps so that old friends could catch up and new friends could be made. Gem might have missed that as I don't think she ever went to one. The camp is primarily for having fun and if you don't know Christian then you'll find out a bit about him on Saturday afternoon. This isn't a solemn occasion but a celebration of what 'some guy' did and stood for.

  4. sounds like session or cache problems. Or maybe some security setting like refusing cookies. using a different device usually fixes that as caches and sessions are stored on the device, not on the server. I'll check now to make sure it's all functioning, so if i don't comment further it is fine.
Also, just check that your shipping cost is zero for both options. if it isn't there must be a glitch related to your other item. .

  5. will have a generator running into the evening for lights and music etc, but it probably won't reach into the camp area (only the social area and kitchen). And we may need to turn it off by about 1am (haven't asked the neighbours yet). I should have a few tiki torches sitting around somewhere and have plenty of lamp oil.
I am open to all ideas, but probably best to see what the weather does before planning a hangi.

  6. yum yum. Hangi works well in dry or sandy soil. We're on pure clay. So if it rains (or rained the days before) you'd end up more with a boiled leg of venison than a roast ;)
I have a very basic BBQ here. Also a 1m cast iron bowl fire pit. There are no fire restrictions, so feel free to come up with any roasting option you like ;)
Not a lot of hardwood on the property as it is mostly camphor and younger soft-medium trees. I'll try and score some hardwood for roasting options. Can't do a camp wihtout marshmallows ;)

  7. Hey Gem, have you tried the kambo lately? I used to sell the sticks until I realised they lose potency rather quickly. I mean months (that's quick if people only buy once a fortnight ;) ). That was 10 years ago. Now they'd be flying off the shelf.
I've got a couple on the way. or at least I hope so. South american suppliers can be so unreliable :(  A local practitioner has also promised to help out with a stick if mine don't get here in time. So we SHOULD be alright. Mind you, I like to have as many back up options as possible ;)
39, ha! he barely looked 29! Thanks for the reminder of his birthday. I get so used to FB reminding me.

  8. To be able to keep tabs on numbers and contact details I've set up a hidden item in our webstore for the camping registration. You can't find the item by looking for it in the store. You can only get to it by using this link:
    http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/shop/camp_site_booking_fee_per_person_pr_2145.php

Please register as soon as possible to allow us to start planning for numbers. As with any event, the sooner numbers are known the cheaper it is to get the required facilities.
Please note that anyone is welcome, but must have purchased a registration. If you can't afford the registration then talk to us.
Registrations are open till the 15th of april, but the sooner you can do it the better we can organise the event.

I have also set up a donations section on the forums for anyone wanting to contribute to the camp above and beyond the registration fee. I have not set a goal yet as i am not sure how much we'll need. The toilets alone are $600 for the weekend (for 2 of them). Haven't looked into marquee prices yet. It would also be nice to have some excess to organise a shared meal.

I am also working on having a kambo practitioner present for saturday morning. He/she won't be free, but heavily subsidised. This will be a good opportunity to earn your spots without paying the usual $150-$200.

  9. Ok folks, the date i set. Sorry it took so long, but I had to wait for a few other things to fall into place. Please start making your arrangements to come to Mullumbimby from the 20th to the 22nd. Camping on my property will be available from friday lunchtime through to monday lunchtime. If you want to stay around the area before or after then please make independent arrangements.

if you can only make it for part of the time then please aim to be there for at least saturday afternoon. This is when we will take some time out to specifically remember Christian as a whole group.

To avoid unpredictable numbers this event will be ticketed and there will be a $10 fee. This is simply so we don't get people announcing big groups, but then not turning up. The funds will also help with costs such as toilets, shelters, etc.
I haven't quite worked out how to set this all up yet, but will provide details in the next few days. I'll also get some quotes and then set up a donations target. Not aiming for anything big, but just the essentials. It all depends on the group size too. Anyone who can't afford the $10 please discuss with me privately.

The fire danger period will be finished by then, so a communal fire in the open paddock should be no problem unless there is unseasonal hot & dry weather. The property has a lot of long grass, so there can't be any fires in other areas, but you can use camping stoves etc.. A BBQ will also be provided for anyone to use. A tap with drinkable bore water is also available for refilling water bottles, etc.
I'll provide more info about what's available in mullum and what is not in the next few weeks.

The property is just 7mins drive from mullumbimby. It can be walked, but some of it is along a very fast and dangerous road, so best to arrange lifts to our laneway (which is still about 1km from the property).

I'll add all new info to the first post for ease of reference.

  10. PD, we've been through this too many times already, but none of us are getting younger and there will be more and more. Some by accident, some intentionally, some due to poor health. They are all sad, but we need to celebrate

their lives and their contributions. Come up for the camp out - it will be good.

  11. Having issues securing the venue in a meaningful way. Wouldn't be fun if 150 kids were running around at the same time. And the cost of prebooking are pretty high too. It's all changed and not serving the purpose it used to.
So, I am looking at other options. There are various campgrounds that could do, but nothing where we can get exclusive use - especially not unless we commit a largish number. There are also a few who want to attend and don't want to camp rough, so some nearby accommodation would be good.

So here is one option I've been toying with. How about my place?  It's less than 5 mins from mullumbimby, lots of airbnbs around, hotel in town, no minimum or maximum numbers (within reason), plenty of flat land for camping, the option to hike up the mountain, etc. The neighbours will be cool with it as long as they get some notice and we're not ridiculously loud after midnight.
There is a bus and a shuttle bus to airport, plus anyone wanting to extend their stay and make a holiday out of it might want to hang in Byron for a couple of days or head up the gold coast, or Nimbin, Border Ranges, etc.

There would be some costs involved as we'd need to rent some porta potties and maybe a shower. Or maybe we can organise the use of the show ground shower block which is a 3 min drive. However traffic on our shared lane might be an issue with the neighbours, so probably best to keep everyone on site as much as possible.
It would be nice to maybe get a marquee for shade and rain shelter. So yeah, we might need to organise a little kitty for that, but it wouldn't be much (less than any other option I looked at).

Keep in mind that there is currently no house on the property so even simple things like a fridge, toilet, shower, etc don't exist.

I still want to give people as much notice as possible, but also do this before the nights get too cold, so we're now looking at early to mid april.  I'd like to hear any comments about the timing and location asap please so we can move ahead and set a date asap.

I should explain that my property is a 180ac on the western slope of Mt Chincogan - the local Mullumbimby landmark. There are a few acres of grassy flats at the bottom which we can use and a track that provides a nice hike to the top of the mountain with stunning views to Byron and the ocean.

  12. hmmm, I just went to delete the albums as I couldn't see any images in them, but when I deleted the first one it showed me lost of other albums that are empty (but shouldn't be). I m not sure what's going on there. Looks like a database problem. I will investigate in the next few days. maybe don't delete the other albums as I might be able to get the images back.
I am also doing an upgrade soon so even if a database repair doesn't fix it maybe a rebuild for the new forum version does.

  13. we don't delete accounts, but I can lock it and even change your username if you like. But unless I know you personally or you email me from the registered email address I will not be able to let you back into your account if you change your mind.
I better go and read that thread you mentioned. Sounds like a topic with a predictable outcome.

  14. I have no sympathy for pedophiles, but i think there are definitely different levels of harm and the legal and judicial systems largely recognises this. The penalties for owning an image of a 17 year old are different to owning one of a 5 year old. I also find it odd that many people with very strong views on pedophilia have no issue with 'barely legal' porn which is often not actually legal. It is one of the most popular porn categories, so there is a bit of a disconnect between what the cultural expectations are publicly vs privately. ie many people are hypocrites. And because of this it is possible to unknowingly be in possession of pedophile material. There is a well known story of a 15 year old gay porn actor who scammed his way into the industry with fake ID and later used this deception as leverage. It was even turned into a movie. Anyone owning these releases is technically a pedophile and is breaking the law. Yet how many 'consumers' would even know this?

I've read several articles about MSS and while I absolutely disagree with Auxin that such offences are none of our business, I recommend people look at the details before getting on their high horses. He downloaded a torrent. The torrent contained some images of minors.
We don't know the age of these minors. Let's assume this was one of those questionable collections of 'barely legal' porn that had been identified by the authorities as being younger than barely legal. if so then MSS did nothing more than most porn consumers who are into that category. His only problem was that the torrent download was traced. If you're  a porn downloader, have you checked your HDD to make sure you don't have the same torrent? Is all your porn definitely legal? I know I did a clean up of my porn collection about 10 years ago and found plenty of stuff in torrents I didn't think was appropriate. Stuff I had never looked at before - hadn't even opened the zips. I doubt many people do that, but I was expecting to get raided for other things, so it seemed prudent. Realistically, having some 'slightly' underage porn on your computer is almost inevitable unless you're only into oldies, simply because the industry is geared that way.

On the other hand, if MSS had images of 5 year olds being violated then I hope they throw away the key. And this is really where I find the law and the sex offender register is coming up short. There are no 'mistakes' with 5 year olds. But we have no way of knowing. That's why I haven't posted about this before. I find that judging him on the basis of the incomplete information is problematic because it leaves open a range from 'I hope he doesn't make it out alive' to 'unlucky bastard getting caught for what everyone else is doing'.

Obviously the fact that he was a social worker in the mid teen age group isn't a good thing either, but like the articles state, there is no suggestion he ever behaved inappropriately at work. And as a consequence he won't be able to work in his career again, and appears to have lost his house and family over this too. So the punishment is far more than just whatever time he is spending in jail.

Now go and clean up your porn drives before throwing stones :P

  15. Today was Christian (anydyamine)'s funeral. A very sad day that many in our community could not share because of distance, short notice, and proximity to EGA & Xmas.
Christian used to organise several of the SAB camp outs which were weekends in a beautiful location in northern NSW exploring plants and rituals.

I thought it would be a fitting tribute to organise one of these camp outs with plenty of notice sometime in the new year 2018 so that everyone who missed out on the funeral can come and participate in a memorial gathering. No need to have known him to attend, but I suggest to familiarise yourself with his contribution on these forums.

It will be a fun weekend. We don't want to be sad, but we want to remember him for the kind and generous person he was. There will be music, campfire, nature walks, maybe some workshops and lectures, and lots of socialising.

Please indicate your expressions of interest either here or on the FB thread (or both).

This is a picture of Christian at one of the SAB camps a few years ago. He was in his element.

  16. On Friday morning my dear friend Christian D. passed away. Many of you will know him as andyamine - moderator on these forums. He was supposed to have joined me on the roadtrip to EGA, but pulled out last minute. I saw him for a few minutes the week before and he seemed like he was getting on top of the issues that had affected him so badly for the couple of months before. I left his place genuinely thinking he will be ok. He wasn't.
Look after your mates!  Depression is a killer.
    I will miss Christian.

(edit: a memorial SAB camp will be organised in the new year. Please see this thread)
