    Home made waterwell pots

I've had good success over the years with one of my own "inventions". A 2L coke bottle with a 10-15cm rag comming out the side near the top. Sink the whole thing into the ground so the lid is just below soil level (place a small rock above the lid so you can find it easy and refill it) and the wick is diagonally down but not too long or it seems to drain the water faster- like a siphon! Then you can plant right above the wick! Only needs refilling every 2 months and its invisible (completely underground). No matter how good your potting mix is it cant beat the sweet soil of mother earth for productivity- just ask any farmer. use cotton/polyester mix as cotton rots too fast. This does work and I did think of it first.

    dumb question

cool. So if I want flowers sooner I should get cuttings from cacti that have already flowered! -can't argue with that sort of logic.

    a question on grafting

so if I grafted a white rose onto a red one I wouldnt get a pink one- It would still be white? What about cacti grafts? Dont they produce a new plant that looks somewhere in between? Im confused.

    a question on grafting

I think cacti do but what about those fruit trees with a heap of different fruits... are they all just hybrid fruits?

    a question on grafting

does grafting two plants produce a hybrid with characteristics of both plants? eg cross an apple with a pear and get a nashie. Ive had all sorts of conflicting answers to this question. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done some grafting for themself and know from experience. thanks
