  1. For exercise I run along the beach, chase my dogs through the bush, carry dead animals when hunting, build rock gardens, swim away from crocs and Ive got some gymnastics rings that I like to play on.

Take up a hobby that requires some exercise and walm into it. Best way to change your brain and how its wired Re exercise is to have a relationship with a girl who likes exercising.

  2. Should really stop pushing the cigs and alcohol kill more then xx line. Cigs and alch are legal, cannabis is not, therefore its a completely different story.

As my mum says "Society has two legal drugs (cigs and alch) and it cant handle them, so why make more legal?"

A 50%+ (in my eyes) of recreational drug users are not responsible drug users, but these people reflect poorly on the rest of the recreational drug users.

Recreational drugs are not 100% safe, nor should people claim they are, ethnobotanical are not 100% safe, nor should people claim they are. Its as bad as the govs propaganda.

If I was the gov Im not going to listen to people who say cannabis is 100% safe, we should legalise it. Nor would I listen to someone who says cannabis kills and destroys lives. The truth lies in the middle and thats the person who I would listen to.

  3. Here is the Kmz file for most of the Lophophora locality types I could find, open it and it will run in google earth. These are not the GPS locations where the seed/ plants were collected but rather the towns identified in the locality names.

As you can see a lot are found quite near each other so its unlikely there is any considerable difference between some populations. I think the most interesting thing would be to grow individuals from the northern, southern, eastern and western most populations.

The northern form is said to be located around Saltillo, the southern form around Huizache. The La Perdida locality (a caespitose population) fits between the two.

What I think is noticeable is the lack of seed from Texas, texana is obviously from Texas but Im unsure where. Likewise some sell "big bend" locality seeds from the big bend national park. The remaining cultivar is the echinata cultivar which I believe is from west texas somewhere.

Feel free to add to it and repost it.

    http://www.cactusconservation.org/CCI/library/2009_Snicer_TheLittlestLophophora.pdf

Part of the diffusae group of Lophophora this little bugger flowers at 1cm in diameter!!

Funny thing is years ago I grew a some lophs from seed and one flowered at 1cm when grafted, I thought it was weird...

Anyway Ill let you read the article!

Nice idea by Terry et al but unfortunately I dont think one can read too far into it. It does however give a great value for mescaline concentrations in wild Peyote, ~3% (2.75-3.5%).

The problems with the work were identified by the workers, low sample size and no replicates means no conclusions can be drawn. The authors also identified that the lowest concentration 2.75% that was found in plants from Starr County Texas could be due to the over harvesting of plants in this locale.

One thing this did make me do was take all the locality cultivars and put them on a google map. It was then I realised that most cultivars are sourced from Mexico, with maybe two from the US. It also shows how stupid the whole location cultivar thing is as many of the locations are very very close to each other.

This report has also taken me back to previous information discussing the morphologically different northern and southern forms. Im still working through some of the stuff Martin Terry has done on this

This is the key to northern and southern forms from the Kaktusy Lophophora edition:

    Northern forms (Centred around Saltillo):

    - Autogamous (usually)

    - Large stigma (relative to southern form)

    - Shorter style (relative to the southern form)

    - Broad rounded petals with prominent midstripe

    - Style is short and white

    - Stigma is pink tinted

    - Stamens are white reaching beyone the stigma

    -Anthers are yellow to orange

    Southern forms (Centred around Huizache):

    - Heterogamous (always)

    - Small stigma (relative to northern form)

    - Longer style (relative to the northern form)

    - Sometimes lacking the flower midstripe

    - Stigma is white

Hopefully if Terry et al do some more work maybe we can add to that list relative high and low mescaline concentrations...

  7. Looking at getting back into growing some cacti (about 4 years ago I moved and sold/gave away everything I had). Ive had the bug since then and its finally too much. Have some experiments planned and as such Im chasing the following:

    - Pereskiopsis cuttings

    - TBM cuttings

    - Eileen cuttings

Happy to pay, trade or "loan" the cuttings and repay them later.

  8. Interesting results!

So I posed this question as my experiences living a remote and very self sustainable life for the last few years and interaction about this life with other people have definitely raised a few questions for myself.

The first world human population has reached an interesting point I think. We have reached a point in our civilisation where we care about the treatment of animals we eat. Not entirely stupid as happy animals are healthier etc. However modern agriculture evolved for production of quantity yet now we are happy to sacrifice quantity and cost for ethics.

I proposed however that we have placed the rights of animals above the rights of other humans (third world) and to some extent above opportunities for ourselves and children. I would propose that people should sacrifice some of their ethics and buy cheaper caged eggs (for example) and difference in $ go towards food for third world countries or education for our children etc (just examples).

So noone voted for symbol of status or talking point, but I think this is oversight. Many said it tastes better which is a talking point. An interesting social experiment for you would be to comment to your peers that you have started buying caged eggs, surprisingly in my experience this is a significant statement to make. In my experience some people dont care, others are totally outraged. Whether we like it or not it is a symbol of status (not high class but of ethics) in much the same way buying organic food or being a vegetarian is.

My thoughts arnt exactly well put out today sorry.

I hunt my own food and I must say not all kills are quick and immediate, its just not always possible. To watch an animal die is an experience I think everyone should have, and no I dont think that is psychotic. Sometimes Im sick of killing animals, so I go without.

In terms of eggs I buy caged ones, Im poor and dont care how the chickens are raised, I can detach from that.

The funny thing is most free range farms also do caged eggs so your supporting it regardless. There was a report into the conditions etc and stress caused to the animals and it found there was no difference between caged vs free range but there was between farms, ie better managed farms had happier chickens regardless of how they were raised. The biggest criticism of this report was that critics wanted a lower density for actual free range chickens.

All the lessons learnt in living, in death we learn the rest.

    Anyway Im rambling now.

  9. The one on betting was still interesting. It showed if you put something out there, even if only 1% of people believe you then you can make your money off them. The funny thing is that 1% could be rational people but the proof you show them leads them to believe beyond belief.

Reminds me of pyramid selling and those learn how to play the stockmarket things.

I think his messiah episode was particularly important for this community.

Always take something with a grain of salt too I guess.

  10. Ill let a few more people answer the poll before I pose a few more Q's.

Personally I dont buy free range/ethical animal products. I live in the bush and shoot my own so I guess it is free range, as to whether people consider my methods of acquirement ethical is another can o worms.

  11. When I first found this forum, before I signed up I thought it was a hangout for gay germans who liked entheogens! I know of a few girls.

This forum is tame compared to the nook when it comes to sexist comments. The nook is full of porn.
