    HELP! MEALY BUGS!!!

What would happen to the bugs if you removed all moisture from the environment? I know dust might can be killed off by a lack of moisture. Maybe you could seal your cacti in a room and run a dehumidifier for a few weeks. The drop in humidity could kill off the bugs. Eventually, the cacti would loose some of their moisture and their alkaloids would concentrate-maybe killing the bugs off. There also might be a(high or low) temperature that would kill the bugs, but not the cacti.
  3. From reading a lot on these fourms, it seems that the monstrose cacti generall have higher alkaloid levels. I'm wondering what would happen if some of these chemicals within the cacti are extracted and applied to a cactus-would a mutation happen? For example: Extract "X" from the tbm, then inject-feed- or topically apply "X" to a normal bridgesii. I wonder if there's a point where the bridgesii will start monstrose growth because of "X"? It would be interesting to see a chemical analysis of the TBM's vs the regular bridgesiis. Maybe the tbms would be higher in certain chemicals. Then maybe these chemicals could be used to produce monstrosities. What if it's hormone that causes the monstrosity? Then what would happen if a regular bridgesii was grafted onto a tbm? Do you think the hormones would be transfered and possibly cause a monstrosity?

    grow lights

Look into a 250w or 400w Ceramic Metal Halide. I'd say it's the very best you could get. I've seen the 400 in action and it's white just like the sun:) I've read it's bluer than a MH and redder than a sodium. The 250s and 400s run in HPS ballasts. http://advancedtechlighting.com/cdmed18.htm
  5. Nitrogen- I have both clone A and B TBMs. This clone is different from both. It's like a four ribbed bridgesii that's constantly changing shapes. Some areas of it are really square. It has about 25-30 aeroles. I'm trying to learn more about aeroel/rib grafting. I'm thinking about propigating this one, maybe spread it out a little. I searched most of the nook, google and here- and I can't seem to find more pictures like it. I REALLY wish there was a reliable tutorial about areole/rib grafting of columnar cacti.
  6. I joined and searched for igraft. It seems like some of his posts are deleted, I couldn't see any of his pics. It looks like there's a lot of information at the nook, there's always more to learn.

    Trichocereus Peruvianus Short Spine

I'm guessing the pupping could be from the lime I add to the soil mix then. Or maybe the Age Old organics Bloom forumula. Or maybe due to the acidity of the peat based mix. Yea- there's times when I water these every day. The soil is constantly damp or wet and I've never had an issue. I like to "grow it fast" with this clone. I'll push it with water and ferts to keep it plump:)

    Trichocereus Peruvianus Short Spine

When I saw that pic, I thought it was mine:) I have the same clone, purchased around 1999-2000. My pics are in link. Mine grow very fast, but I feed them very well. (peat mix with bone meal, blood meal, lime, 20% castings for the soil. And they get age old organics, castings and mollases for liquid nutes. It is a VERY dark green cactus. I think it has extra chlorophyll, giving it energy to grow fast. It really likes to reproduce it's self doesn't it? I've recently done a lot of research on this clone and I've come to the conclusion that it's one in a group of cacti that were collected from the "kk242" region. It may be a cross between a peruvianus and a pedro because of it's vigor, but I'd bet the cross occured in nature. I'm using it for my first grafting attempts because of it's vigor and desiese resistance. I'm wondering if the tendancy to pup is a genetic trate of the clone OR is it due to my rich soil and fert regimin? http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/inde...showtopic=20190
  9. ddd is easy to type fast:) Yea, there's a lot of areoles, even though the pics don't show them. I figure each cut wil have at least 4. So what's the name of this cactus? Earlier in this thread someone said there is no "T B M melted wax." This isn't Kai is it? I've only seen 1 pic of a shifting kai and I remember thinking it looked simmilar. I think this clone grows to about 12-15 inches then pups at the base. I've seen another persons cactus pup at 15" and this one is just over a foot and there's a bulge on one of the lower aeroles. I wonder if it would ever flower? It would make a nice cross with another flowering bridgesii with shape shifting tendencies (eileen).
  10. Thanks, I'll treat it like any other trichnocereus.
  11. What would be the smallest segments that could be cut from this cactus to make cuttings? I've had good luck with peruvianus and pedro down to 2", but I'm inexperienced when it comes to growing bridgesii. If I make suttings, my goal would be: 1st To have all of the cuttings survive. 2nd To get as many cuttings as possible. Would it be fine to make cuttings and let them dry before planting AND let them root before watering. OR should I look into something to prevent rot? I think sulfur was mentioned before.
  12. This is what I was talking about. What's the name of this clone and if there's any more info-please let me know.

    dicks without pricks

When you rub the spines off, will the cactus still pup from the aereol OR is it destroyed?
