thanks for your reply ed, i was thinking whittakeri for the second one. what is the best way to propagate these things, I read somewhere they produce gemmae that will grow into clones. dont suppose anyone knows what time of year they would produce them?

    near new 400W HPS ballast

i got this a few years back in a set with light and lamp for $150. but it hasn't really been used much at all about 1 week or 2 worth of use. its a clean, small ballast for a 400W HPS light only. $35 excluding postage or possibly a trade [ 15. August 2005, 13:13: Message edited by: Trich-Aura ]

    edibles in SA

theyre season starts a bit earlier but they are still around now. I found several last week but only one was good to pick the rest had bugs. generally the younger specimens are better. btw there is no lactarius at kuitpo only boletus. try Mt Crawford pine forest at Second Valley

    melb season-over already?

the season has been a fair bit warmer and slower then last year. but i dont think we had a late start I found the first sub of the season May 21 which is even earlier then last year I think. And some of my eucalypt patches have only started fruiting a couple weeks ago. So i still think we have a few weeks left yet

    edibles in SA

In second valley and just about every pine forest in the Mount Lofty Ranges you can find Lactarius deliciousus (Milk Caps), goto Mt Crawford forests. Milk caps have to be specially cooked to taste good. Also like prophet said you can also find Suilus (better known as Boletus) luteus and granulatus altough these edibles are more common they are not as good and even are slightly toxic I think.
  13. I do not know if you guys seen this (if ur as obsessed with mushrooms as i am u probably would have) but i have know about if for some time. this linkshows a list of fungi found at Mt. Buffalo during a foray in 1997. It says Psilocybe (on dung), Psilocybe (in grass) looks like the species was not identified. I am guessing that at least one of these species probably was subaeruginosa the one on grass might be semilanceata. this other link is a tasmanian conservation park of some sort. it states the psilocybes that were found in this area are: Psilocybe brunneoalbescens Y.S. Chang ined. Psilocybe sp GATES 'dark brown, pellucid, in moss’ Psilocybe sp GATES 'on dung’ Psilocybe subaeruginosa Cleland this is the only time i have heard of Psilocybe brunneoalbescens and it appears to only be found in tasmania. the one in dung may be tasmananiana. anyway tassie hunters should get out there and maybe try to photograph some of these elusive unknown psilocybes. one of them may possibly be a new PA shroom EDIT - oops wrong forum. some1 move this to mycology? unknown Psilocybe species in VIC and TAS

yeah i didnt think it would be a new PA species, i remember seeing a nonbluing psilocybe from vic or nsw on google. has anyone tried lookin for liberties? I wonder why victorians aren't looking for these. edit - this is the non active psilocybe [ 29. July 2005, 12:16: Message edited by: Trich-Aura ]

    gymnopilus spectabilis?

gymnopilus pampeanus is synonymous with junonious (spectabilis). i think junonious is supposed to be pretty brown. i see them gyms you photographed on stumps everywhere in pine forests

    New Australian Mushroom Book out

I found Youngs books today in my uni book store, it was 29.95 before discount. For its price its a very good book, much updated from his last book. He even has all the states listed subaeruginosa grows in (including qld) also has descriptions and diagrams of panaeolus cyanescens and gymnopilus junonious as well as a good colour photograph of the gym. there is a little bit of misinformation like pan cyans growing in horse dung [ 29. New Australian Mushroom Book out

strangebrew in what shop did you find this book? does it have any mentions or photographs of Psilocybe, Copelandia, Panaeolus, Gymnopilus species? Im trying to decide whether to get this book or Tony Youngs new book A Field Guide to the Fungi of Australia. [ 29. July 2005, 03:29: Message edited by: Trich-Aura ]

    S.W. Western Australia sub pics!

yes i have seen those. bluemeanie also has pictures of australiana which is a misnomer http://nzfungi.landcareresearch.co.nz/html...&NAMEPKey=26038 Psilocybe australiana Guzmán & Watling (1978) = Psilocybe subaeruginosa Cleland (1927). and in bluemeanies description of eucalypta he says himself the the macroscopic charecteristics wasnt consistent with the microscopic charecteristics. in other words what looked like "eucalypta" had the same microscopic charectirists of subaeruginosa. therefore it is incorrectly dileniated [ 27. S.W. Western Australia sub pics!

I doubt eucalypta is even a seperate species its probably a misnomer like australiana, but tasmanaiana is and they do not look like subs. and they only grow directly from kangaroo dung. nice pics btw yep definately subs!

ive found out that there are three acacia species growing in a forest in the hills. they are: Acacia longifolia var. sophorae coastal wattle Acacia myrtifolia var. myrtifolia myrtle wattle Acacia pycnantha golden wattle how can I tell them apart? or just the first one. I can id some mushroom species but i dunno where to begin with these. I guess i can tell acacia genus from others tho so thats a start. any further help will be greatly appreciated [ 15. psilocybin toxicity

i don't know the lethal dose for humans, however this may help. according to erowid the psilocybin LD50 (50% chance of lethal dose) for rats is 280mg/kg I.V. but for rabbits its a lot less, i reckon for humans the ld50 is probably a lot higher then rats.
