one i soaked from the start was green in colour, all the rest were brownish/black, not very funky at all, only that slight smell, not as funky as what tomer's sound like.

I haven't seen it mentioned as being produced before. I don't want to go down the PBR path at this stage for any plant, it'd have to be a pretty special beast. LEt's say i pick a scopXbridge monstrose out of the batch, that may be worth it just to get a name on it. But apart from that and any unusual beasts, it's really only for the benefit of ethno peoples that i've crossed the two.

it sort of smells like Anadenanthera seeds , must be the 5HTP. As a coincidence, i've got some soaking in warm water right now as well ^_^
Keep them hot i hear...

ps. i hope Dodie's cactus wasn't a peruvianus ^_^ , sounds painful.

That section can be a bitch if you haven't driven it loads of times, plus when wet its a shocker, hope everyone's ok.

they'll love it in a nice big pot with plenty of root space, part shade and a heap of fertiliser over the warmer months, to keep those flowers coming.

About all i have is plants of the Artemisia and the Tabernaemontana. You'd be wanting a standardised extract of either to make sure you get the proper cover, no use f'ing around with malaria.

:saufen2:
btw we've got heaps of A. constricta growing on our property and the local area if there is some interest in the bark. I tried it recently and it is unbelievably bitter, leaves a lingering bitterness. Was good for fevers and influenza evidently.

almost there.
with that book Ed, how accurate do you think it still is? It seems to be pretty good, a lot of good work was done from the 50's - 70's in reagrds to alkaloids
-
I think i'll just go for my 1000 post now....

Good to see you are enjoying the bookI love to sit down and read a good reference book ^_^.

They either need a treatment or just take a hell of a long time I never had luck but think you may have to crack the hard shell inside the fruit.

I just received Ed Dunkel's alkaloid bearing plants book (thanks ed ) and it list Alstonia constricta as containing both reserpine and alpha-yohimbine. I knew about the reserpine but not the alpha-yohimbine, although it does not state in which plant part they isolated it from. Searching for this compound i came up with the following:
5) Yohimbe alkaloid is a MAOI
An alkaloid found in both yohimbe and East Indian Snakeroot (Rauwolfia serpentina) named rauwolscine or alpha-yohimbine (an isomer of yohimbine) was found to inhibit the enzyme monoamine oxidase. The mild MAOI type effects of yohimbe bark have been anecdotally reported for years but now a specific alkaloid has shown measurable activity in the rat liver. It was found that the MAOI activity of alpha-yohimbine works by its association with a specific type of receptor called an imidazoline I-2 site. This appears to be distinct from the more typically recognized type of MAO inhibition such as that caused by harmaline or pargyline.
Just made me think of Folias talking about unknown native MAOIs...

Wonder what would happen if you were caught with nicked seeds sitting in a bowel of water before sowing? Classed as extraction you think?dunno, dunno, dunno , la la la la la1!
-
i'll probably put up the seeds shortly for those keen and established seedlings once their big enough to send in 6-12months, whenever they're ready.
-
just did a bit of research and that extract was actually a root extract, not a whole plant extract. I did post a pic on the old gallery here, it came out as a very dark red colour.
-
well, they're definently viable, i've had 4 pop up this morning and should have a lot more by tomorrow morning pretty quick too, only 4 days.
-
thanks darcy.I'll keep that in mind next time
BTW when will they be illegal to consume or are they illegal already?
i think we came to the conclusion here that possesing the seeds is fine, growing plants is fine, selling seeds is fine, harvesting seeds is fine. But perhaps possesing them AND having information on you or in your possesion that details how to consume/extract from them would be deemed illegal. Having ground up seeds in capsules or an extraction sitting in your kitchen would be illegal. There's some long in depth discussions on these forums if you do a search.

Hi Epicurus,
please remember consumption of those seeds will be illegal here in Australia, try to post your questions in a theoretical manner. FOr a start, use the search engine here to answer some of your questions. Please read the illegal plants topic pinned at the top of the Ethnobotany page too, it will help you out. Possibly the best source of info on the web for these materials is Erowid.

Sounds like I. hederacea Mesc. If you are talking I. violacea then it won't have hairy stems or leaves.
or Ipomoea purpurea
or Ipomoea indica, which is like a mix of the above two but I haven't seen much seed set in Australia.
and here's I. violacea just for comparison.
Hi Epicurus, and welcome! Do a bit of searching in the search engine at the top of the page for 'Ipomoea violacea LSA' or whatever, there's heaps of knowledge there. It is a species known to contain usable compounds.

I'm just doing some germination tests now and will probably give some seeds away soon as i seem to have over 1500 from that fruit ^_^, I just put down 100 and it didn't make a dent in the number.
Hopefully the seedlings have the nice thick scop skin with some blue new growth and scattered long spines and some good chemistry, who knows but they'll be a lot of variation i'm sure.

I may have told this to 2-3 people max! And a few other little interesting anecdotes I knew of at the time...but that's it.MAOI's are probably overated as a way to get tryptamines to pass the blood blain barrier... there may be other ways we don't know about! And can we yet preclude the existence of native Australian MAOI'S?
Julian.
I have a reference for tetrahydoharman from an oz native, not being up on my harmaline/harmine knowledge, can this be used as a MAOI?

I just wanted to keep this together, like love in a sinking boat of rice.
