  1. All of my seeds from the ASFR germinated, i planted in a terracotta pot using a cacti mix, seems to work well, only covered them lightly and kept moist until they came up. now they're doing well and will be transplanted in spring.

how did u try it creach??

  2. Any idea why species of Archidendron, which are native to subtropical rainforests on the east coast, have sap which smells like onions and cat piss?? i was repotting some a few weeks ago and the disturbed roots smelt pretty strongly. any idea what the substances would be??

  3. I was reading in an environmental chemistry book that the breakdown of steroids in the body gives shit its characteristic smell. not being a good chemist, does this include tryptophan, etc??

so this plant could contain some nasty steroids i spose???

  4. i didn't notice any sort of dormancy with my hops seeds. just collected them in the German autumn last year and planted them a few weeks ago here. no chilling or storing in the freezer. all of them have come up. am i doing something wrong?? biggrin.gif

  5. Matey, we've got it all biggrin.gif

There's also a native strychnine tree. Presumably contains strychnine. Strychnos axillaris.

The Quinine Bush (Alstonia constricta), don't know if that has a brother or sister in south america.

Do you know the Milkbush (Neiosperma poweri) Ed?

  6. Maybe you could answer this Ed. are the native psychotria species, such as hairy psychotria (loniceroides), similar in chemistry to the south american ones? did aboriginals have a use for them? i found some today in a nearby forest and was wondering if they can be useful for anything (besides producing oxygen and the like) ethnobotanically.
