    Do former addicts make good rehab workers/case managers...?

    If so wouldn't they have to have been an addict to a specific drug to work within the parameters of that drugs dependency framework, so as to achieve a higher understanding and knowledge of the subtleties that drug has on each new patient.

    I can't see how someone who wasn't say a meth addict, could possibly understand the intricacies of that drugs dependancy and expect to gain entry to the persons mind whom they are trying to help. If anyone tries to tell me that someone with a mountain od psych degrees is more than capable of healing addicts I'm gunna puke...that's not to say these types haven't helped in the past with certain individuals, but more than likely though they have helped softcore/first time addicts who are " good kids from wealthy families " that have gone off the rails cause it's kitsch.

    First rule of becoming drug free and cease addictions..the user has to want to stop.

    There is a place in an addicts mind that resides between sober and high, this place is where the relentless tempting thoughts to cross back over constantly bombard the sober...neutralizing these thoughts is incredibly difficult, one might consider brain washing to be the only means to eliminate them.

    So if I was to take up smoking crack I'd be Ok

    I'm not trying be sarcastic, just pointing out the inadequacy of such a test.

    Does anyone know what the test detects in the case of cannabis ?

    If they are testing for metabolites I was wondering if a nasal spray bottlle filled with H202 solution and sprayed into the mouth would oxidise anything before the test could show a positive.

     

    The test is tongue scraper..its a sterile plastic scraper that you scrape from the back of your tongue to the front...you wanit 6mins for them to run the tests...they test primarily for amphetamines and cannabis. The results are extremely similar to when a women does a pee test to see if she is pregnant, if a second pink line shows up from the saliva swab then you are not allowed to drive for 24 hrs and the swab will be taken for further analysis to determine levels and exact type of stimulant.

    No.. psuedo in cold and flu tablets doesn't show up as an amphetamine, but your street speed and meth will definately trigger a second pink line on the indicator. The only way to beat something like this would be a layer of wax across your tongue...like Homer Simpson at the great Springfield chili cook-off...remember that..he trips balls from eating so many hot chilli's, that was funny for real.

    i'm guessing it's only just gotten cold enough in the city.

     

    Bang on...it takes significantly longer to reach the dead cold like you need for these fruits in the city as compared to out west where the cold and frosts come much sooner...salt water and ocean winds near the coast keeps the city warmer for longer...so late June through all of July should be primo for city subs.

    wow. thanks for the pics...i had no idea that the subs took so long to grow or that they lasted so long. i was thinking they'd be fully grown and rotting within the space of a week or two. good news i guess.

    ha. you should have called them home blokes.

     

    This is by far the most intriguing thing about homies, the time spent watching and seeing the whole process unfold from day one to the inevitable end...they really do last a great deal of time, more than I ever imagined, I'm expecting the oldest one will easily make it to 30 days..ohmy.gif

    HM your patch will be killer next year man..should have a shin dig by that tree and play some ritual beats...beautiful job man.. :wub:

    Just to let the few people I owe a few free trades and stuff to at the moment, that next Wednesday all that is owed will be posted out, and yes your patience will be rewarded with some extras. :)

    y'all know who you are so don't sweat it, just have been working a hell of a lot shifts lately and haven't had the necessary time to get to a post office.

    the most unbelievable thing about this species is the smell of the fresh cut inner bark, it's truly a pleasure for the smell sense..it gives goosepimples in a smooth way and without being too weird if you simply for a second or two burn the green tip of a leaf it generally makes you sneeze but the ever so slight feeling of niceness acompanies for 20 seconds or so.....very mild maybe 1/10. if the woodchip is burnt for a few second also it produces a lovely smell smoke, almost like incence and possibly a 1.5/10.....this is purely subjectual and nothing to get excited about however just thought i would chip in newimprovedwinkonclear.gif

    She is quite likable though isn't she, tough as teak, she has such a bogan way of talking too, which will hold her in good stead. She's Welsh, well that can't be bad, half my family are welsh.. :innocent_n: and she has a pretty good sense of humour.

    Now all we need to do is to convince her to run senator Conroy out of town along with cry baby Rudd and we might be okay for some time.

    This does all stink of minerals and miners tax though, we down here can only ever speculate and toss our tin foil hats to the ground in disgust when we finally get the truth or real picture.

    Jillian Gillard...she's ok..a red headed fiery Welsh woman as Prime Minister...already the women of Australia are right onto this and showing their full support.

    Men step aside...there's a new leader in town..she's a chick, so let's take to the couches and flick on the TV, take a break and let the girls run wild for a few years, we can slaughter her with sex scandals later when we get tired or bored.

    KEVIN Rudd's leadership is in crisis tonight as factional leaders and MPs urged Julia Gillard to challenge for the prime ministership.

    The Prime Minister and his deputy are locked in talks in his office, amid reports that key Labor figures have lost confidence in Mr Rudd's ability to win the next election.

    Ms Gillard has not yet made herself a candidate, but senior Labor sources said members of the NSW Right had agreed to support the push if she agreed to challenge.

    The leadership crisis emerged tonight just as Mr Rudd appeared safe before the start of the long parliamentary winter break and as he prepares to leave for Canada for the G20 meeting tomorrow.

    But there have been a fierce revival of complaints and concerns about Labor's collapse in the polls.

    Labor MPs said the Deputy Prime Minister was “very angry” with suggestions that her loyalty had been questioned by Mr Rudd.

    Prompted by reports that Mr Rudd had sent his chief-of-staff, Alister Jordan, to check MPs' loyalty and whether there were moves to replace him with Ms Gillard, MPs angrily accused Mr Rudd of disloyalty himself.

    Several MPs have told The Australian Ms Gillard has put every effort into killing leadership speculation surrounding Mr Rudd, but has effectively been undermined by the Prime Minister.

    “She has stood by him through the toughest time,” an MP said. “She has not sought to exploit his problems for her own gain and this is how he replays her?”

    MPs from the Right and Left factions and from NSW, Victoria and South Australia have been involved in meetings as anger spread through Labor ranks during question time today.

    DRUG drivers' cases are being dismissed in court as magistrates consider mandatory sentences too harsh.

    The NSW Law Society is backing lawyers who say sentencing laws introduced in 2006 need to be changed.

    The random drug testing laws have a mandatory six-month licence suspension for drivers found with cannabis, amphetamine or ecstasy in their saliva, when tested by police using a simple swab-like device.

    Magistrates can cut a sentence to three months but still find the time outweighs the crime, lawyers said.

    Instead, they grant a section 10, which means the driver is found guilty but no conviction or suspension is recorded.

    "It is timely that the community be consulted on a sliding scale of penalties," NSW Law Society president Mary Macken said.

    Lawyers claimed the key issue was drivers facing suspension after being picked up by a random drug test on a Monday morning, for example, after having the drug on Saturday night.

    Proctor & Associates solicitor Peter Proctor, a former police officer and prosecutor, said magistrates granted section 10s, as suspending a licence for the first offence was too harsh.

    "People shouldn't have their lives ruined after making one stupid mistake," Mr Proctor said.

    "No one is condoning the use of illicit drugs, but there really is a question whether there needs to be mandatory disqualification for this kind of thing.

    "There may be circumstances that justify a reduction in the suspension of the licence. It could be one month, or six weeks but that flexibility isn't available under the current legislation."

    Mr Proctor said five clients in two years had these charges dismissed.

    The state's top traffic cop John Hartley was shocked at the claims, and said drug drivers should not be granted Section 10s.

    "This is a road safety issue and the use of any drug whilst driving is ... a dangerous activity that can kill," Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.

    this has to be in direct violation of our civil liberties right? freedom of speech!

     

    Unfortunately we don't have a constitution in Australia, we don't actually have any freedom of speech here, you can and will be charged for making verbal threats, right down to owning prohibited books. In the US you can freely order any book you want and can't be charged with it, they will however use it as evidence if you are caught doing something illegal and the books contents reflect your attempts to conspire said crime.
