    - Yeh, that's a more convincing way of putting things. I like the striving aspect, nice emotive word that. There exists rumors that often increased freedoms require increased responsibility. Further, being able to realize such freedoms, seems to require a certain degree of competency. Such rumors began surfacing after a certain incident involving ever familiar, and also ever useful, pieces of rope. It was observed that when freely giving out as much rope as anyone might request, without responsibly giving advice on how to competently deal with so much rope, some people inadvertently found themselves getting tied up into all sorts of knots. Many of these knots caused great distress, and some even proved lethal. Such distress and death, being the tragic and highly emotive things they are and all, obviously gave the keepers of the rope great cause for concern. What to do? In competent hands, rope had proven itself to be quite useful, yet in less than competent hands, it seemed a proven scourge on humanity. And so it came to pass... Yeh, I'm sorry, I'm just dribbling, I don't really know how this story ends... But then you can probably tell that by the fact that I've just replied to a rather long post pretty much just where I left off, totally lacking the courtesy to acknowledge much that went on inbetween then and now. (Note: That was dribble and not drivel, 'cos I know how that's not allowed and all). Hang on, Maybe i can fix this, Or am i just making it worse? I did read more of the inbetween bits, but it kept going round in circles often enough that I arrogantly assumed it might keep doing that. And the thing about circles is that they don't really seem to go anywhere. Got to say though, I so totally love them hurricane rides that i sometimes go on at The Royal Show. It's kinda like it takes me to another place, even though I know I haven't really gone anywhere. Circles certainly aren't all bad then. I guess if we all understood stuff the first time round, Well, what would we do with all that time on our hands anyway? Oh, so that's how the story ends.. Illegal is indeed Illegal But that definition doesn't really seem to go anywhere. 'Scuse me while I go find myself a piece of rope to go make a circle out of!!! Indeed.

Yeh, ukno u could give yourself a separate identity for each individual computer. I believe that might solve your problem. U might haf2 work hard thinking up anotha username tho. Heh! maybe the thing 2do might be to give urself the same name, but spelt in a different way or some otha fancy ass connection. Good luck with ur conjuring new spells for ur name, or woteva

The net is a rather special medium, very much along the lines of "by the ppl, for the ppl". It takes but one person to discover something, then in a fraction of a second, billions of copies can be made and distributed at a global level. Seeking to locally control such a global onslaught of data seems to be a bit on the problematic side, greatly hindered by the fact that each source of local control doesn't seem to be able to agree on the definition of acceptable or objectionable (Why oh why can't we all just get along? ). Then there's those darn search engines which allow you to type in a few key words here and there and suddenly it's like information just readily appears at your fingertips. These search engines certainly seem to help turn down the heat of having to know everything yourself by quite a few degrees or so.

    Just a toon or two

Hmm... learning, starting out. Easy to say, difficult to define. FL studio is one of them Digital audio workstation thingamies I believe. They're often focused on manipulating and sequencing wav's and shit. Then there's also good old midi sequencers, merely a way of talking to other midi interfaced instruments. I'd certainly recommend rebirth338 (two tb303's and 909 and 808 drum machine), now a free download!! Sometimes it's good to just let some tunes flow into something simple like that. Indeed even an acoustic piano can be totally awesome for getting enraptured in some real time musical make believe. Then there are them synthesizer things that allow dynamic sound textures to be created etc.. But enuff of the externals. As far as learning and starting out are concerned, the only thing that you need do is listen and feel the energy flows. Over time you should come to appreciate that certain harmonic and rhythmic sequences have different emotional meanings and effects over you. Indeed, music theory can be viewed as a type of solidification of stuff ppl have realised about the types of things that can be said with music and how to say it. For example, the note named the Tonic tends to impart energy and vitality, especially after stuff suggesting the "leading note" where it's implied the tonic is what we're leading to. There is another note called the Dominant, and dominate it indeed does etc.. After listening and understanding music, naturally you'll want to be able to speak it too, presumably using similar devices derived from your listening experience. umm.. "Devices" refers to musical syntax and semantics NOT hardware/software. It may also be worth pointing out that you don't need to know what a device is called, or even that you are using it, in order to use it. For example, a young child can string together words into meaningful communication whilst being completely oblivious to the rigors of syntax and grammar. You said when playing with FL you didn't get much you really liked. Well, that's one of the great things about composing. Basically the idea is to write stuff, if you like it, you keep it. If you don't like it, then you change it into something that you do like. Hence, the basic idea behind composing is to create stuff which makes you feel as though you like it. You could also try specifically to create stuff which makes you feel you don't like it, but only if you feel you'd like that! Music's kinda open minded about that sought of thing. Anyhow here's a fairly humble example of feeling out the energy flows to a tune I'd done using just Rebirth338, with the microdot mod. http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/17/21...tryptohnite.avi
