Meet up: Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle

Nice day by whose standards? My friends the shrooms love a bit a rain!

Sounds interesting... might be able to make it along since new kids seem to be welcome and all. Do I bring something? Casserole? ;)

    Tassie Giants & Dog Crap!

I keep finding myself back at this thread to stare at those giant fat subs! They really are very pretty
  5. poo

    id on sub.

No way I'd be eating them with spores that colour... too many indications against being active anyway, but the spore print confirms it for me.

    Tassie Giants & Dog Crap!

Great news on your patch returning to you! Those shrooms are stunning! Thanks for sharing... well... the pictures at least ;)

    Cheap!

Do you mind linking to the downloads you mention? I know books of value should be purchased, but I like to check out what I am potentially buying first. I bought Stamets "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World" two weeks ago from Amazon. Pretty nice publication... hopefully those you metion are just as good. Thanks for the tip on the special BTW!

    any good books

My wife is amazing. No, you can't have one
  11. poo

    Bizarre!

That is the most amazing thing I've seen in ages - looks like something from Mario land or a cake/lolly factory - stunning!

    Oh no! It's LBMs!

Wow - blueing is so intense on that sub it almost looks painted on! Really impressive!

    Insecty things in fungi?

I'm stunned this seems to be the first time you've come across them Sina. You've obviously been part of the community for ages, and larvae of this nature is common to many mushrooms! Annoying little guys - especially disgusting when you don't expect them too ;)

Yeah I know. I should have been clearer in my post - I meant to just collect materials loaded with mycelium so it can be spread to other areas, for which you really only need a small quantity. Take it home, grow in newspaper or disperse through woodchips, then innoculate your bum off ;) I know this won't give you immediate results in terms of the mushrooms themselves... but oh the rewards in the coming years!!! Also much easier to explain your bag of mulch to the kind inquisitive officer than a bag of shrooms

Just go easy on the quantity... a huge bag of subs is likely to get you busted... but 'debris' is a bit different.

    ID Please

Found in the Blue Mountains region on a pile of wood chips. They don't seem fresh, but I'm not experienced enough to know how long they have been there for. Most were quite dry (some with moist gills), and the stems were tougher than I had imagined they would be - bit more like a soft (but firm) twig rather than a 'mushroom from the store' stem. These are taken at the location as found, and are very true to the real colour of the mushrooms, whereas the images further down are not a great representation of colour On the 3rd and 4th images you can see the spores have dropped on the stem. No real purple colour, more of a chocolate brown. Am attempting a spore print, but not sure if there will be much left to drop... we'll see. I'm sure the spore colour in the images above will be clear enough for someone experienced to judge. Now onto the other images. I know there are alot, but I want to give the best chance of an accurate ID. These are the same mushrooms, but in warm afternoon sunlight with flash. So anyone want to give me some news? Please let me know if you need more info Thanks for the help!

    Central Coast meet?

Would love to come along... have little to offer other than a good ear and an open mind, but you have to start somewhere and all that...

Painful wasn't it... glad we're back!
  22. Finds from the last week or two around Sydney & Blue Mtns... now to find some (of the right) actives... Most were like this... Never thought this: Would turn into this: Note to self... look behind you while hunting, then you won't spend 15 mins looking before seeing this:
  23. poo

Just a few finds - nothing active

Not me I wondered for quite a while what it was too. It was a few minutes later when the ride on lawnmower from the golf course went past that I realised it was the tire tread.

Just a few finds - nothing active

Thanks Undergrounder (once again... ) for your quick ID. the 'little brown one' you mention was longer than my forearm and has a fuzzy suede like cap. I've never seen anything like it (and am still not quite convinced it is a mushroom). The white powdery one is a very old mushroom that has been covered in various moulds.
