    Tbm & Tpm from seed

So, i'm guessing to get monstrose seedlings you would need a parent that was semi-monstrose that could also flower. I don't know much about the genetics of these plants, so i'm wondering if the trait is recessive? I have a werdermannianus seedling that is looking like a possible monstrose but it's hard to tell at this stage. How did the monstrose plants come about to begin with if they aren't being germinated from seed?
  3. Hello sabsters Firstly, sorry for the quality and layout of photos. I'm on my phone and don't seem to have the hang of it. Here's the first plant: Looks like a scop, but minimal almost non-existent spines. The plant I took the cutting from was insanely fat. Second one: Only one photo sorry. Trichocereus is my best guess. Possibly peruvianus? Last one: I think it's a Bridge but could it possibly be a cross? I got this guy of PD years ago and not only is it beautiful it grows nice and fast. Any guess as to what is happening in the last photo? Thanks for your help. Getting off my arse and getting my garden in order. cheers

    Trichocereus ID and other.

Hi everyone Thanks for the replies and the help. EG, this is twice you've helped me out with Id. Thanks man. IIRC the Second plant was labelled Peruvianus, but this was a long time ago. I'm happy to call it that. But i'll see if I can't get more shots of it. I have a psycho0, and the bridge is definitely different. Larger spines than the psycho0 I'm growing. Bridgesii it is. Cheers

  10. Hey plant heads. A few years ago I bought some seed off a member here that had made these crosses. But being me and thinking I'd remember the crosses I didn't label them. Stupid I know. Anyway, the longer spined variety was defintely a Bridgesii 'psycho0' x, the shorter spined variety was I think a Scopulicola x. I remember them being crossed with the same variety that was sausage. That's all I remember sorry. It defintely had sausage in the name. I want to sell a few of these and wanted to be clear with what I was actually putting out there. Thanks for the help. Here's some photos. Edit: Sorry to make you crank your neck.

    Advice for learning about cars...

The other day I changed the headlights on my car within 3 weeks of each other. First the left one went, then the right one. It's so simple a monkey could do it. But with someone with little to no mechanical knowledge it was a real achievement for me. I was really proud of myself. I'm in the same boat as you Gtarman. I own a 2001 Commodore VX, and combined with the basic knowledge in the owners manual, the vast resources online in forums, websites and the amount of spare parts there's no reason I couldn't be doing more to my car. The idea of helping a local mechanic is a good one. Even if you find a retired mechanic who does stuff from home on friends cars or something. Surely a local tafe might offer short courses on mechanics? Just imagine all the money you'll save!

  16. Thanks EG. Seeing as there seems to be only one Sausage plant I feel confident that it's providing the other half of the genetics. Cheers

    Show your tattoos!

I've had this one since 2012. It's my favorite and often get complimented on it, despite people often mistaking it for a pumpkin lol. It was done by a guy named Fred Baines at The Piercing Urge. Sorry for the average photos. Thought you plant heads would appreciate it. Cheers

    exploding head syndrome

Wow, I never knew I had this. I can remember two times when this caused some embarrassment on public transport. Nodding off on a quiet train with a few people around me when I get that reflex and jolt up. People reactions as well as my unwillingness to say anything or apologise leaves an awkward tension lingering in the air haha. Not to long ago, after a somewhat difficult experience with mushrooms I was left someone paranoid about my mental health. And it was around this time that this syndrome really stood out. As I was wondering if it I had uncovered a latent mental illness and these noises were the beginning. When you're in that frame of mind these noises, which can be really realistic, can cause anxiety. Fortunately I'm fine. But it's nice to put a name to these weird brain spasms. Or whatever they are. Cheers

    Pressure Cookers

Hello all I'm looking into growing my own mushrooms at home as a bit of a hobby and way to save some money. Most teks I look at require a pressure cooker at some point in the process. I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest a make/model or brand. Most people seem to avoid electronic pressure cookers as they can't seem to get hot enough to sterilise thoroughly enough, so I'm looking at is the Hawkings big boy, aluminium 22L. (Apologies as I can't seem to copy links). I'm only wanting to grow mushrooms on a much smaller scale, so I don't need a huge size. Just large enough so I wont be in the kitchen all day replacing jars. 22L seems like it should do the trick. So, success stories, brands to avoid etc? I'll see if I can add in the link later on another computer. Cheers YM
