Similarly, I've had success germinating old spores in a honey water solution. Mixed approx. 1 tablespoon of honey to 1 pint of warm water, filled some small containers, sterilised, then added spores.

    delospermum boseranum

I've been wondering about this one as well. Lycaeum and Deoxy talk about the genus Delosperma containing DMT and N-methyltryptamine, but I havn't been able to find any solid info on Delosperma Bosseranum yet. It's also mentioned in this paper on the Psychoactive Constituents of the Genus Sceletium. Try a search in the forums, I think tst has posted about it a couple of times.

    My friend Funky

I was under the impression that alcohol itself isn't fattening, rather it inhibits your ability to process fats. So beer + pizza is more fattening than pizza alone. I have no evidence to back this up, it was word of mouth from a fitness freak.

    Spot the mistake

Was browsing the Australian Institute of Criminology, a great wealth of reputable (mis)information, and came across this in the Hallucinogens section: Hallucinogenic mushrooms are either eaten or made into a tea. "Magic mushrooms" containing psilocybin cause relaxation and mood changes but heavier doses can lead to nausea, vomiting and dizziness. Other hallucinogenic mushrooms found in Australian, such as datura and fly agaric have dangerous toxic side effects. It's good to know we're in safe hands. [ 19. Shpongle at Earthcore??

I don't think Raja Ram is coming, the earthcore site says Simon Posford is playing a DJ set of Shpongle tunes. Looking forward to seeing a live Hallucinogen set, we've been waiting a long time :D

    Shittake??

... and make as many as you can. The shrooms I buy usually aren't all that fresh, so it can be hard to find good tissue. I made up 6 jars, only 2 worked (but that may be my dodgy kitchen style ) [ 18. July 2003, 16:18: Message edited by: mrwest ]

    Shittake??

If you can buy some Shiitakes you could attempt to clone them. I've got some oyster mushrooms growing at the moment that I bought from a market and cloned.

    Cannabis death

From the Legalise Cannabis Alliance website: "At present it is estimated that marijuana's LD-50 is around 1:20,000 to 1:40,000 ... in order to induce death a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response." How would this translate into hash? I recall reading about lethal doses in lab animals some time ago, I think muscles relax to a point where you stop breathing and the heart stops pumping. Still, 580g of hash doesn't sound like enough. Sceletium bioassay questions

Could you (or someone else) elaborate on this?I understand 5HTP is a precursor to serotonin, and an SSRI inhibits the re-uptake of serotonin, are you suggesting this can lead to an overload? [ 05. July 2003, 12:28: Message edited by: mrwest ]
  17. Have you considered some form of study? It's a good way to meet people with common interests, and helps build a sense of achievement. Or maybe writing? I find it helps to make things clearer, and it's often a catlyst for change.

    plant rights?

Greeting all, first post. I've discussed a similar topic with a vegetarian friend... One of the many reasons put forward for being vegetarian is that it's not ethical to breed animals for the sole purpose of eating them. Doesn't this same arguement also apply to plants? There are massive crops of plants being artificially sustained for the sole purpose of human or animal consumption. Why draw the line at animals? A university supervisor of mine was a Jain, an interesting religion that treats all life as precious. Apparently there are Jains who refuse to kill plants. They'll take food from it, like fruit or leaves, but never kill it. By most accounts plants were here first, surely they deserve the same respect we afford their meaty counterparts. [ 19.
