  1. It was interesting to see someone recommending skinning the caps to reduce the nausea; I have often read (without actually testing it) that that was where most of the action is.

that's a myth, also replicated in a not-so-modern greek mycobook

the flesh of the caps is more potent than the skins themselves, as far as IBO/MUS are concerned [some japanese paper]

many many successful reports exist for cooking, I think also traditional preparations also... Understandable enough... they're delicious mushrooms!

has anyone had success with drying then boiling? surely this would maximise decarboxylation

yep, that's the right way :) although you needn't boil, just bring to boil, take off the heat and then leave them to sit for 10 mins, occasionaly stirring. also try sun drying first!

  2. Some interesting things have been found by friends who are in Bolivia studying this subject.

Apparently during the 1970s the military had orders to remove bridgesii from around the cities due to an invasion of "hippies". Or at least the perception of one occurring.

Dickson wrote an article for Head around this time where she had encountered it being sold in the markets. She was unaware it was not pachanoi though.

When the ceremonialist Miguel Kavlin (who was born in Bolivia) tried to find out about indigenous use of bridgesii only a few years later he could find nothing at all. Apparently the efforts of the military had either eliminated it or else had driven it underground leaving people unwilling to discuss it.

In recent years bridgesii has started to repappear in the witches markets, fresh, dried, live cuttings etc... Discussions of traditional use and the use of other cacti is also starting to occur.

Interestingly this is apparently not occurring in ALL of the Bolivian witches markets but just those that are frequented by tourists. A friend found that in the off-the-tourist-trails traditional witches markets there were no bridgesii to be found in any form anywhere.

A similar picture seems to now exists in Ecuador where a thriving if not booming psychedelic tourism industry catering to tourists exists alongside claims of no traditional use at all (by Bussman and Sharon - full text is available online).

I am looking forward to a lot more reports from the field.

Very interestin info! Keep it coming :)

  3. Interesting thread... [edited some hours later, to re-phrase some things, my original post was a bit hasty]

I am more inclined to agree with those who put set, setting, dose and other aspects like the personal reaction and/or abuse of such psychedelics in the past as main propable factors for such reactions ~

    ***

... yet there seems that T.bridgesii has a marked {?} difference, something which remains unsolved , or at least only speculations about it exist, if I understand right - or is Smith's claim about kaempferol and quercetin acting as MAOIs more than just mere hypothesis?

[edit] here I might be wrong, because I considered T.bridgesii difference as a fact, but then again I am not sure if everyonbe agrees that T.bridgesii is different in a way other than more potent... or more fixed in its potency...

    *****

On another note, are there reports of people who experienced a more severe form of poisoning than the 'usual' one, after a bridgesii experience, maybe due to food which 'disagreed' with the MAOI in there or something? Could any other sicknesses and body implications described by people who have ingested some trich be caused by MAOIs in certain Trichocereus strains?

    **********

Well to my sub-point. I actually had never a Trichocereus/Lophophora experience to start with, but still, has anyone heard of disorders caused/catalysed by drugs [pretty often of the classic psychedelics type] ? I am referring to HPPD , drug-induced DP/DR etc etc...

From a short research I made last year in support sites such as 'hppd-online' I came to the conclusion that such incidents are caused mostly by abusive young people eating more than what the mind and/or body could handle or [quite rare I would say] some people with unusual sensitivity [predisposition maybe], maybe also combined with wrong preparation & attitude, also in many cases by initially ignoring the alarming symptoms and continuing use causing a crisis.

    ****************

t st tantra>> did this individual experience lingering visual aspects or just mental? Please elaborate a bit, why you feel T.bridgesii has a certain 'dark space' ~ to make matters even more complicated, is this true with all bridgesii strains?? Please do give link for this quote of yours

there is another thread trying to expain the 'dark sinister' thing.

[edit] or did I get this wrong, and the problematic after effect are more bodily than mental [hypertension, as you said], and so that might raise the question about the bridgesii coctail of other unstudied/not isolated substances?

Here I would like to add, that I have been interested in such 'problems' psychedelic use might cause, and I would be grateful if some older member could post some links of previous similar threads in here... I have noted that even people with serious understanding of psychedelics and quite sensible approach seem to dismiss/degrade such problems, maybe afraid of 'negative publicity' or something. Arguements I have read about this range from 'hppd is a gift' to 'even bad trips are rewarding, it's part of the 'meta-programming' ' etc. ~ I sense that the attitude of Corroboree is slightly different and more sensitive in these realms, and I would gladly read opinions of all the sensible members here, maybe in another thread .... [any link?]

I do remember that this particular report refers to an individual who wasn't in the best time of his life [that's a bad set to start with], but what was his expectations of the experience? What is the persons past life like, any other problems/indications with substance use?

Happened to me one time when I ate too many Panaeolus subbalteatus mushrooms... I had "lingering effects" for a couple of months... they were very real, but they were NOT chemically induced by the botanical.

Teotz the 'symptoms' of 'psychedelic-induced disorders' aren't reduced to anxiety only. A really wide range of symptoms could be initiated, actually I think the whole range of 'mental disorders' , even psychosomatic, I would guess. I strongly believe that in the same way that psychedelics can heal off a mental or other disease, they can also initiate/catalyze the appearance of mental kinds of them...

Brigdesii experiences ARE different than other types of Trichocereus...

Would you elaborate more on this ~ say, in what way is it different, what have you heard? ?

Would a tea/Stew with Psyhcotria Viridis Leaves(strained) be a Silly idea to dismiss outright, or could it be worth trying out @ some point.

sounds like a hardcore combination to me :) I am not sure of why would someone do this, unless previously accustomed with each component alone. What would one wanna do with this mix?

PS: Does anyone happen to have pics of T.bridgesii that have that certain 'dark' of otherwise different aspect?

  4. Update:

My argyreias are happy, the growth this spring [ after the fungus infection/damage] was very impressive. What a great plant!

    dscn3375lh1.th.jpg

Two different Argyreia strains side by side, both interesting. The right one is over 1 year old but was kept in a small pot until recently, the lieft one is 6 months old, in between are 2 turbinas. Is there anyone who know the subspecies of A.nervosa or any other info links etc?

I am currently trying to perfect a way of propagation by cuttings.

  5. Maybe people want to also question if the fullest transformation of IBO acid to muscimole is done by sun drying instead of oven [heat] drying - then of course, if one was to consume the material, where legal, the tea would provide a final additional heat to the preperation.

I am pretty convinced that this is the case since a very knowledgeable guy from e-dot [stephen peele, a mycologist] suggested that the decarboxylation is more complete when sun drying the material and/or exposing to UV light.

I have never experienced nausea from greek picked amanita muscaria and amanita pantherina. It's so frustrating that so many people keep replicating the same old mistakes and misinformations.... Another thing that people might want to consider is that in some regions Amanita muscaria might contain little more muscarine , still too little to pose a real threat, but maybe enough to cause oversalivation, muscle twitches etc.

  6. there is a clone some call "blue form" that is stunning. simply the bluest cactus ive ever seen

well, have you seen the blue tones of Myrtillocactus geometrizans? I think its bluer than that. Also Stretsonia coryne is quite a blue cactus, especially the new growth...

anyway, daylight, do you mean something that resembles this one?

    dscn3344js1.th.jpg

[the front, tall one, the other is a pedro]

I think you know where this comes from, its suits you description, is supposed to be very interesting [swim never yet experimmented with cacti apart from growing them, less than a year into cacti stuff, actually] , it is very fast growing. Well that's the only bridge I got apart from the seedlings I am growing, so I cannot really compare.

Also I did not count the spines/per areole ....

  7. Yeah, Myrtillocactus are no disappointment, beautiful blue cacti... I bought all the small ones I could get off the local nursery - they're cheap, practical [sparse spining but then again, little and short spines per areole] and are said to be great to graft on. Only negative I read is they don't like too low temperatures something applicable for both plain plants or plants used as graft stock...

  8. I agree with you, BUT the likely hood a single Turbinicarpus being active would mean that it were more potent than the MOST potent Lophophora.

Even with 5cm potent Lophophora ~ "Peyote" you still have to eat three.

    This guy is only 2-3cm.

Even then, it might also be a good idea, if someone was to do a bioessay on some of the 'false peyotes' but had not enough material, but anyway still had to do the bioessay to maybe use a MAOI to potentiate the material... just a thought... I somewhat agree that a bioessay of such a cactus alone would be far more worthy than a mixture with other cacti of known psychoactivity...

Hmmmm, the link about hordenine is very interesting, even though I don't understand all of it...
