    Anadenanthera seeds

hey I still haven't got my anadenanthera seed to germinate [ both colubrina and peregrina ]. I am currently on my 3rd ~ 4rth attempt, trying a different sowing technique that I saw in some photos somewhere and inspired me. I have a qustion. Some of the seeds [well most of them] swell when placed in water, in less than 3-4 hours. In previous times if they stayed more the shell of the seed came completely off. In this last time I sowed them before that. So, is swelling a general sign of viability, or it means nothing? What does it say about the seed freshness? Is it the same for other kinds of seeds? That is, does swelling when soaked in water show anything for the seed or a dead / non-viable seed can do that too?? Is there anyone who has grown Anadenanthera and has any germination tips, especially temperature? thank you in advance, very nice to be in this forum

    Anadenanthera seeds

Hmmm I have put my last anadenanthera attempt to dry out a bit, but I haven't got much hope for it anyway. As far as planting method is concerned, you mean something like that, no? http://www.ethnogarden.com/cart/image_view...4&img_id=21 http://www.ethnogarden.com/cart/image_view...4&img_id=25 Yeah I did it like this this last time, I buried them more that 2/3 though and used soil with high water withholding My next [final as they're my last seeds] attempt will have all these new info you gave me in mind - hopefully with positive results. One last question though: Where should the eye of the seed be positioned when sowed ~ 2/3 buried ?

Hey, it's a small world isn't it? I haven't been in Kalamata for ages, a nice and blessed place it must be. Cool you decided to change your avatar, reveals a good quality and positive mentality that just can't be dismissed Peace ;)

    Anadenanthera seeds

Oh shit, really? uh... I have been reading they need soaking! So they don't need humidity tent either?? Too bad, I don't think I can save this sowing - so I will try one last one. I must mention I had this small humidity tent inside my room, so this might also be negative for them. Hmmmm, it seems I have few possibility these seed are still viable . Aa for if they're really the real deal, I'm quite confident and trust they vendor they were bought [a respected us vendor between the most experienced ethno-gardeners - still, if you have any reasons to suspect otherwise, Torsten, I could take photo of the remaining ones and post... peregrina or columbrina? - I suppose you're talking about peregrina now ~ the big ones... Yeah, some were 1,5 cm I guess, I will report more later in the week... thanks a lot for the answers - this forums seems to me more and more like a treasure discovered, especially now that the growing season is starting ;)

Well man, Cyprus wants to be autonomous, not greek. And they're not really greeks. It's a different country. They have bigger salaries, they speak a dialect [if they speak their stuff you cant understand anything], they got more luxury lives. I am not really sure about the turkish part though. It must be much poorer... Cyprus people got privileges over greece [they enter greek universities very easily f.e.] - we don't have any such advantages - moreover some serve the obligatory army service there!!] People in greece is really having looooooots of trouble to really care for cyprus. although, the cyprus election are just over, so it was a news for a couple of days. I didn't say the symbol was really fascist-stuff, I just informed you who use it in here. What it stands for. You can use a swastika to provoke or to state whatever you want, but most will tkae it that you are a pro-hitler, neo-nazi bastard. I am from Patras. south greece, mainland yeah.

Interesting. Do you have any information on how much is the potency of Sal.Div. reduced [fresh compared to an old leaf that just died or was damaged from frost] ? Of course it wouldn't be such a good idea to smoke moldy stuff. Some leaves might be damaged from cold. I am talking about freshly deceased leaves but , sure, infected leaves could be another thing. I have heard of people talking about this in other forums and most wait for the leaves to be really old or even fall to pick.

Getting into net fights isn't not my thing either, so you can all relax - Sure I am from Greece. I know greeks that live abroad tend to raise a somewhat more nationalist feeling towards their motherland and it's perfectly normal. The 'freedom or death' thing is one thing and the depiction of the eagle tearing the turkish flag apart is another. Keep your avatar but please know that only openly fascist people or naive idiots wear this T-shirt in REAL Greece. If you walked with such a T-shirt in Athens you could be bullied or challenged by left-wing or anarchoautonomous people - on the other hand if fascists saw you and talked to you and you told them you're a communist or philocommunist they would propably beat the shit out of you. For your information, if you decide to take a trip to you motherland ;) [ don't wear any fancy anti-turkish t-shirts] No worries though, it was just.... a 23 year old, greek , Melbourne resident, into enthnobotanicals, with a fascist avatar and a pro-communist attitude!!! Fuck , I had to comment and see what response I would get. Anyway, knock yourself out with any nationalistic cries. No problems. For your information, I come from a left-wing background, I have many many friends and acquaintances from extreme anarchoautonomists to parliamentary left wing. But most of my real friends like myself are not really into politics, at least in the traditional sense. PS: Not only do we have some shared culture with Turkey, but many things in greek culture are turkish-oriented. Some of those are our traditional music roots, the hash culture, the 'greek' coffee, many words and so much more.
  10. Thanks for the help! planthelper ;) great and informative post man. No I haven't seen a Psychotria in real life let alone touch it, but you can tell by the photos the leaves are fleshy. Ficus genus comes in mind. And yes {!!!} the seedling has both a somewhat look and it is fleshy [for cotyledons, that is]. Actually I started many plants from seed this year, and I can reassure you I have felt this feeling you describe, and this from a rather cynical guy like me! Despite it's a quite new 'sport' for me, I have partly inherited my fathers thrill with plants - nothing ethnobotanically interesting, but still enough to spark my interest in nature before 4 years. I will post after the real leaves appear ;)
  11. Cool. Any advice on how the baby should be raised?

Fuck man, what is this avatar you have? I suppose you are greek from the "eleftheria i thanatos" in the signature - and live in Melbourne, right? Please explain this: haw can you be pro-communist and have such an avatar, a symbol of greek extreme nationalist fuckheads ? You [rightly so] bash the anti-cuban propaganda but you have digested all the anti-turkish propaganda of greek nationalism? [if it all sounds ... grekk to you, explanation follows: the avatar depicts an eagle tearing a Turkish flag apart - in the background is the greek flag. yes, you guessed right, only the most extreme nationalists [from the extreme right to neo-nazis] would use such a symbol. Of course I cannot deny the possibility of extreme stupidity as well.... Well any comments, greekman from Melbourne?

Well that's not exactly true with ANY plant. Salvia divinorum leaves, which of course is illegal in any form in Australia but legal almost everywhere else, are usually gathered when they die/dry/fall off, even though I am not really sure they don't loose some of their potency...

    Gymnopilus spectabilis [G.junonius] discussion

I know a number of mycologists are trying to nail this one down, whether it is active or not. Do you have further info corroborating this. If it says something, I have heard americans say this in other forums as well....

Just a note hyoscine = scopolamine // hyoscyamine is another tropane alkaloid Moreover, going for a delirium is not necessarily what one would want in his first or any experience with these substances, even though the delirium is what tropanes are infamous for.
  20. I took some more photos of the seedling, after it has been exposed to some sun, the baby-leaves got greener and are more even shaped now I would really appreciate an opinion, even if it's just an estimation - I know it's pretty difficult/impossible to ID stuff from the seedling phase...

Great photos by all contributors! I am growing D.stramonium and D.inoxia, also Hyoscyamus niger and H.alba but these are all young now. How big containers do you thing are required for daturas to develop enough for them to flower? I might also be given some D.metel, for which I look forward! I also have been growing three types of Brugmansia from cuttings [white, yellow and pink], but I have no idea what they are... But this is not thraed for Brugs anyway

    Brug seed pod?

I also got something like seed pod that looks like that in whit3rabbit's photo, from what I can see, where a flower used to be but it doesn't really seem to evolve fast. In my occasion though, there were 3-4 small plants that flowered simulataneously. Here are my plants. Note that all plants are from cuttings of the same mother plant...

Just a note: Brugmansia and Datura flowers are atropine rich, which is not so wanted compared to scopolamine. Both are poisonous, but scopolamine causes the more 'desired' effects, compared to atropine which seems to produce mostly unwanted bodyload / unpleasant effects. Even more, Mandrake and Hyoscyamus have the additional agent Hysoscyamine which is also poisonous and similar to scopolamine and atropine, but relatively preferable, if some could find the tropane plants effects 'wanted'. The anti-nausea pills of the market usually contain scopolamine, not atropine. What I imply is that if one intends to work with such a dangerous plant such as datura/brugmansia, it might be preferable to choose another plant part, not flowers.
