Grafting plant needs an id
mutant replied to sharxx101's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
I assume this is not poisonous, if one can graft edible vegetables on, right?? I am sure you all know that story of the psychoactive tomatos, where tomatoes had been grafted on daturas ??!?! -
This thread is really naive... so far.... But please, someone list all the ALREADY known strains.... like Eillen, PsychoO etc, along with their technical characteristics.... appearance, species etc. I only know a couple like PC pachanoi .... and also that eileen is a thick brisgesii, but not much else... I would love to know what popular clones are around

tell me more about the african style is there a curing process with this plant?? I did not come across it yet...
-
did this guy take the dxm at work??? ts-tsk-tsk....
-
Yeah I think that's the way too. Even though I had them 10 days in water or so, it's propably not so good idea... young rootlets seem to be very sensitive and break off easily, so, yeah, plant direct to soil, maybe use some hormone too. I wouldsay wait for some growth before repotting, and I think a thick cut has better possibilities to take... I have been trying to do the same with turbinas, and it seems to work

Nicotine is surely in the resin. The flowering time or a bit earlier is the time that the plant has the biggest potency and is sticky as hell - propably a bad idea to make a concentrated product for any kind of consumption with this plant though, unless one would use it as poison for insects... Great photo by the way Here's an older photo of mine

First post!! and ID please
mutant replied to J Smith's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Welcome and nice find [the second one] I suppose it will be more interesting to see a photo after some months of active growth... Could also help the more experienced in IDing to narrow down possibilities... PS: Take care not to kill someone with that monstrose spines! -
Hello, first harvest of Leonotis leonorus of mine. Here nice eye candy I also UTSE and read through some of peoples commments and experiences... questions: 1. Doesn't the freshness of the harvested material play a role? And if so, how could one store the material so as to collect a bunch and then go for an extraction? Anyways, I am going to experiment with plain flower first anyway [the old folks could not have known extraction techniques] so this brigns us to the second question: 2. What kind of drying would be better? The material was sticky, very sticky... should I avoid heat? PS: [edit] and Oh! I read that L.nepetifolia is an anual... L.leonorus is a perrenial, no??? At least that's what I thought...

This one, the one that flowered is in the soil for about a year now... it's 15 month old .... and now that I think of it.... well, just a spontaneous thought.... what's the lower temp in your area round the year?? I suppose it's high, no?? could it be that argyreias, like cacti, like a period of colder weather [in which they hibernate] in order to flower the next season or what??

Awesome pictures !!! Spidermites are a problem with brugs here too during the hot and dry periods, but short term they're easier to get rid of with spirit-soap-water solution IME, than with other plants where this solution is so effective....
-
Good advice.... but hey mate, don't worry, these plants are prolific seeders... you will have more than you can do with... ;) 20 per pod??? hell, maybe even 100 per pod!
-
Thanks a lot...

I know the first photo isnt clear, but it adds somewhat to the picture any opinions? No blueing reaction noticed....

I beveled the edges of my 2 myrti-lopho grafts, but I left in the open and a rain occured.. guess what??? fungi spots , black and red~brown what should I do??? general fungicide??? put to dry climate [in the house]? heat with an airdryier [for hair] ????!??! the beveling was done so shitty, I am almost ashamed to put photos

hell, yeah it's not properly lit or framed, but it surely is the first one properly focused i will finally learn that damn word in the end ! Thanks for opinion... actually they are already 'semioutside' all the way till now. they are in an areaway Would turning on a 'regular' light at night help?

I finally managed to take a good photo of my tricho seedlings, they are the bridgesis. Do they need more sun? Do they look etoliated or seem to be going into etoliation? Should I be thinking of putting them out of the tent for good? I air them now and them, but the tent isn't complete closed either... Are they extremely cold sensitive in this point, or they can be hardied? any opinions are greatly welcomed... PS: I have attempted to graft some, and might attempt some more, this wuestion is in regards from leaving them on own roots...
-
turbinas are thriving and are becoming more hairy with time... strange and interesting root space seems to be also very important for these, just like argyreias, maybe a bit less so...
-
Visble progress on my first pere grafts And here, partly explaining why the scion halted a bit, a myrti pup coming out. I will bevel the edges tomorow for sure now
-
Updates: Here is the argyreia plant I made from a cutting, my first one, quite proud of it actually - I hope it lives to be BIG! Heck it even threw up a vine!! Here is a close up of argyreia and turbina vines in the first floor balcony bar going upwards...

mutant replied to mutant's topic in Ethnobotany
Well here are the updates as I promised. The plant is throwing branches it's pretty clear by now that it's propably NOT a psychotria... Vains in leaf are not so 'symmetrical' and not so 'bold' as well. -
mauve, which pics do you mean? the icarus link? heck, my plant in propably not this, that is psychotria Well there are also some itnerestin points here about when, and where and how often plants 'choose' to set seed.. I will update my pics in the other thread tonight
