what to do with this crest???

Yeah I think rot will be an issue, I would most definitely cut that bottom section off in a curved shape like this ( in the first pic and take off some of that brown section. cut V type shapes but with a flat bottom, make say 4 or 5, and graft each of them to a columnar cactus. In a year you will have a bucket load of them. Just make clean cuts and work quickly use good top pressure and make sure the vascular bundles overlap (Can be difficult with crests). Good luck.
  2. Hi I can only answer a few of your questions. As far as I know 100% of this particular cross of TPM x SS02 are crest, they begin as Montrose and crest eventually. I don't know how many others there are, one of our members Nitrogen created this cross and has done some others too. Keep an eye out for seeds they will no doubt pop up.
  3. Second and final cutting is now up, I hope someone here or at ACF wins it Would be a nice Christmas present http://cgi.ebay.com....2#ht_500wt_1271

loph flowers is this a jourdiana ?

Yes your plant has spider mite and pretty bad. As for ID definitely Williamsii not Jourds. I stop mites ever beginning to eat my plants by mixing sulphur (dust) and water in a sprayer bottle and spray my entire loph collection every 2-3 months. Works like a charm. Just be sure to agitate the bottle constantly and don't use a small bottle it will get clogged up.

Hey all had some drama with the seed, bad storm caused a heap of the seed to drop. A very limited amount left on the tree, only the people who have paid already will get them. A big sorry but mother nature is king. The person with the initials L... W... from the Newcastle area please PM me. I have a payment from you but don't know who it was from !

    Astrophytum help

Yep looks like sun damage, unfortunately. It should recover.
  19. Inspired by Gerbil's seed growth Pach thread I thought I would do a similar thing but with my 'Icaro' seedlings. I received the seed a few seasons ago but I can't for the life of me remember the source, anyway I think they turned out pretty well ? This is the first one again.
  20. Was going to use these as grafting stock but thought they could be put to better use in a good home. The Second pic has some of the cuttings I took for grafting stock, I think the two Bridgesii's cuts on either side and the two T.Knuthianus cuts could also be put to better use. Largest Pach cutting is just over 50cm other one a bit shorter. Selling as a lot of 2 for $30 plus post. Only to Australia. The brigges are very heavy and would cost a bit of $$ to post, they are about 50cm each, I dunno what they are worth name your price, I will sell them separately. The Knuthianus are right in the middle and I will sell both together for $25 plus post. HN P.S nothing else is for sale just what I said.
  21. The 2x Pachanoi in the first picture is still available, first buyer does not want them. HN

    Flowers changeing colours

It's just a genetic mutation Incog seach the web for the ciltivar Kohyo which means "Autumn colour" I believe. The plant will change colour at random, and I think you are right this plant is mildly variegated also.

    Flowers changeing colours

I have seen this in Astrophytum before, mainly in caput-medusae. In the beginning I believed it to be caused by the sun but as Jack suggests it is very much genetic and similar to the Kohyo cultivar that effects the skin in Myiostigma. There may be some role the weather plays in triggering the changes but I don't know for sure. Here are a few shots of the SAME plant that has the Kohyo trait, unfortunately I haven't got one when it is completely green which does occur for short periods. The first two were during last growing season the last one was today.
