  1. i believe so. or rather i have read so.

aren't they covered in chitin, which is the hardest known organic substance. is it not?

suposedly able to remain dormant potentially for thousands or millions of years in the vacuum of space, very impervious to radiation etc

    ?

i've heard that. best thing to do is ask the mushroom.

  2. not sure what's going on with the upturned mushie, these things always have to be weirder than you expect. nice looking flushes though.

i love the lighter soma :)

EDIT: what's with the tubing taped around the inside of the terrarium in pic 1? haven't heard that one...

  3. SWIM originaly started with cakes and was flat out yielding enough for a dosage. These are SWIM's first cased grows, intent being to get a greater yield for that very purpose GCF. SWIM now has fruits comin out of his ears but life at the moment hasen't afforded him the opertunity to go on a tasting tour if ya catch my drift. One such opertunity may present itself mid week I am hoping :)

SWIM is keen to try the Orissa's as these have been rumored to be one of the most potent of cubes, but seeing the perdy colour these beauties have come out and the particular intrest within the community I think Syzygy might take pole position for SWIM's fungy feast :)

    Keep ya'll posted.

    how'd it go haz?

  4. dude! the water above foil level? you need an inch of water, that's it (as long as ur pot is big enough). the steam will billow out the foil tops every now n then, but no significant excess water should get in. no small saucepans

EDIT: that glass in the picture doesn't look flooded, looks ok to let sit for a while :)

  5. "the myc may out compete it." - oh, i hope so!

I just finished making two syringes using the method you told me earlier and really overdid the sterilization process as much as i could. i'm going to make two more cakes when i get the chance and again overdo sterilization on them. hopefully at least one cake will pull through so i can become self sufficient with my prints, but i'll probably save the rest of the prints for when i get around to giving grain a go.

when i steam sterilized this cake, because cooking pot lids are not air tight, steam was still coming out the top through cracks around the lid. i am guessing a PC is best because the air cant escape making the pressure rise. if i put duct tape or something around the side of the lid of my pot to stop or lessen steam/air escaping, would this make the pressure higher? would it be unsafe in that the pressure might rise too high? i could just take the lid off every 10 mins or something to let the steam escape and check the water level? could this work?

i wouldn't recommend the duct tape approach, it could be somewhat dangerous and the steam would loosen the tape anyway. seriously, you don't need a pressure cooker with normal verm cakes. steaming for 1.5 hours is fine, works a treat. i'm not sure of your circumstances where you are, but doing 1 or 2 glasses/jars at a time is pretty uneconomical considering that 1 10cc syringe can inoculate up to ten jars. the more vessels you have the more chance of success, as long as you follow the usual sterile procedures and flame the needle between the inoculation of each cake.

i agree with harry about the cake you have going now. sit tight and there's a good chance it'll be fine :)

  6. garf.

contamination already? or is it the starts of collonisation. they look furry so i think i've already got contams :'(

next cake, ima use finer verm, fatter glasses and really overdo the sterilising process.

doesn't look like any contams to me. give them some more time, as long as the growth is pretty much pure white you're in business.

  7. fruiting bonanza! very nice as usual haz :drool2:

EDIT: i wonder, is there much difference between strains experientially? like for example are some 'gentler' than others, or more visual, or whatever?

  8. lost my fiancee to a drunk driver, but he was point 300 odd. bad shit. .06 is a hell of a lot different though. an acquaintance got done for about .06 here in nsw, got a small fine and 'traffic school' apparently. no suspension.

  9. I usually make the syringe when I'm ready to knock up the cakes/jars. No chance for the spores to settle this way and you get an even distribution of spores through your cakes/jars.

i thought that the syringes need to be let stand for at least 12 hours once filled with spores in order to rehydrate the spores

  10. great work spud :) thanks a bunch.

if people are interested in mushroom/psychedelic audio material then i'd recommend the podcasts here.

they have some really interesting stuff for free direct download. there's a fair bit of mckenna stuff that isn't really found anywhere else, that alone is worth the price of admission. but a heap of other good stuff as well. a portable MP3 player is a must though

  11. Hi there, when fruiting grain substrates do u have to line the bottom of the fruiting chamber with perlite?

yep, unless you have some other humidification method.

if so how much would be advised and how much water would u add.

soak some perlite in peroxide laced water using a colander, enough for about a half inch layer on the bottom of the FC, then cover with a half inch layer of dry perlite.

    not sure about melb suppliers.

  12. Corn, Wild bird seed or rye crumbles a lot easier than pf jars, but you need a pressure cooker to do the grain jars.

i think GCF sterilised his corn jars in a normal saucepan, so it's still possible to get away with not forking out for a pressure cooker

  13. Here is a pic of a glass that was pumped at about 90%. See the pins already :)

Image is a lil dodge due to being taken with a phone.

Was a little early to pump but the jar had stalled so wasn't much other option. Its almost finished now so it'll only take about 4 day for this one to fully fruit from birthing.

    looks beautiful harry :drool2:
